    That was a lot of condensation that would make any dehumidifier work over time.
    As for one of the comments about over reacting and getting in line for repairs, I personally can relate to your reaction. When I was a contractor (about a hundred years ago) my company flourished because when I told a client I was going to do something, I did it. If I was unable to for some unforeseen reasons, I communicated with my client.
    In the boating repair world that is hardly the case, I too would be upset after three weeks of miscommunication or misrepresentation of exactly what was going on or in this case not going on. It was clear to me that it had nothing to do with getting in line or waiting your turn, you were reacting to what was promised to you by the boat yard. That is on the boat yard,not you. Glad you are back to manage your project.❤

      Your comments always make us smile! Thank you!! I 100% agree with you...that is all we ask, do what you say your are gonna do, or let us know why or how it needs to change. It is the not knowing and the lack of communication that is wearing on us. Thanks so much for being awesome! :)

    Well, I always say the shop is more drama than the crashes... I learned with fiberglass 90 percent is the Labor and you guys seem smart, you could diy it. I do recommend never talk trash about a shop, it comes back to you on UA-cam, other shops see it and won't work for you. My rule is only good or nothing. Fiberglass is not fun but it is easy.
    The lower part of the boat never heats up with the sun on the hard in winter, but the top does. The difference in temp makes the wet conditions. Fan running will help.
    I had a 72 day window with tools sitting in one spot, never paid that Marina again. Missed most of a season, but I have 2 boat so... Life is good.
    Last comment, if you don't fix that boat someone will,,,...

      Great comment! Thanks!
      I will say every craftsman and contractor that has worked on our boat has been fantastic! No issues with the guys doing the work. They are great!
      As far as everything else there at the yard and the drama...I will take your advice and remain silent..:)
      Thanks for a great comment and lots of good advice. We appreciate it! Thanks for watching and following along!

      EXCELLENT IDEA! As we dig in further and find more damage we are exploring options just like this to make those areas stronger. I also want to add a backing plate to the top of the strut, I was shocked to see there wasn't one. Thanks for commenting!

    Thank you for sharing your journey through this. It is important to understand the loop has hazards and not every day cruizing or every loop is trouble-free. Sorry your going through this, but I appreciate you sharing the down to earth details. So much to be learned for past present and future loopers.

    Oh geez - the uncertainty must be so stressful. We’ve been dealing with a seemingly endless saga of repairs on our boat since it was hauled out in October - each time one thing gets fixed, they find something else, and between the incredible frustration and the hemorrhaging of money, it’s a real roller coaster. I’m eagerly awaiting each new episode in hopes of finding that there was ultimately a happy ending for Andromeda! (BTW, we were glad to hear the OKelleys confirm that ‘a boat well repaired and well documented’ could even be better than it was from the factory …we’ve been carefully documenting every step of the work on our boat with hundreds of photos, so sounds like it’s the right thing to do!)

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  4 місяці тому

      Ugh! Sorry to hear about your repairs! Hopefully they get you sorted out before this summer! Please, please, please get a good certified Marine Surveyor to work with you for the documenting. If you haven't already. It sucks to have another expense...but that final write up("documented") from that Surveyor is worth every penny. Best of luck Kari!

    Your videos are great for the average boater. Yeah sure, you’ll get comments from a couple of boaters that have grown up on live aboard boats or have been living on big boats first the past 20 or so yrs; don’t let them dissuade you from documenting your adventures for others to see. I too have thought about the big loop and other boating adventures. I’ve been small boating since a child. The biggest boat I’ve owned was a 33’ Searay. Again. Always dreamt about bigger adventures! Love the videos.

    Boat yards! Problem is that the kind of people that work at boat yards or do boat work tend to be free spirits that don't have much urgency when it comes to doing jobs. And there's not a lot of competition so when you are stuck on land you can't really shop around for someone that will get the stuff done. Or you'll be stuck some place that will only allow you to use their workers.

I'm not familiar with the challenges of this level of boat repair. Wish you the very best. Its April now so you may have made some progress since then December. Hope so. From the stories I've heard, this boat yard response level is typical. Hope you kick a little butt and get some progress. When you get to Wilmington NC, and I know you will, would love to buy you guys a beer and burger. Hoping thing gets moving and look forward to seeing your progress. Keep the spirits up!

    I’m with you. I’d be frustrated too. As far as the ‘tech’ that wanted to test the boat apart, I’d have a few words with him. He’s looking a a fat paycheck, or, he didn’t want the job.

    I could have told you that you took it to the one place on the Gulf Coast that will cost you a zillion dollars. Much of your stringer damage appears superficial where the engine moved when the drive gear was under enormous pressure due to the hit on the prop. I do not think the engines needed to be removed. I do know that I managed the repairs on a 63 Carver which took out 2 Shafts and 2 props. No damage to the rudders. Those repairs were about $21,000 dollars. to have both props, and shafts replaced which included pulling the boat. I have heard some scary stories about Saunders Boatworks and pretty much would not take a boat there. The Condensation was more than likely due to very cold weather moving through the area, then warmed up really fast. It is not that uncommon in Southwest Alabama or Northwest Florida.

      @@cruisingandromeda I have moved and delivered a lot of yachts over the time and very interested in the challenges people face. Everything is fun and games until it's not. Worse, is when you are at the mercy of others you do not know or have experience with. I have seen some really bad results. Your journeys are impressive and how you manage challenges are good as well. I wish you safe travels and live your best life. Just be careful if you are moving from South Florida to Northwest Florida in the winter... you can get waylaid for weeks waiting for a weather window to cross the gulf. In January I waited 3 weeks to bring someone's boat back for them. Worse, oil pressure dropped in the starboard engine, I had to run at 1200 rpm putting me into port hours late where the last 4hrs were in heavier seas that I wanted to deal with. It was a long trip. The issue turned out to be in the head which was rebuilt.

    Hey my friends. Happy you are keeping good spirits. Stick together. All will work out. I know I mentioned we went through a terrible house fire and insurance immediately dragged their feet and wanted to under cut everything. We hired an adjustment firm to represent us ... no more connections to insurance. They took over with all their lawyers... soon everything twisted in our favor. Their team knows insurance laws... we made out very well. I would recommend at your meeting if things don't seem to be going well. Put your foot down and imply perhaps you need to hire an adjustment firm to represent you for insurance purposes. I know insurance companies don't want this as they are now fighting a team of lawyers that know insurance policies and law. Our thoughts are with you.

    Wondering about progress or lack there of.
    Your damages although significant are not that bad and the boat is salvageable.
    Being a Michigan native I still have connections for repair parts for everything pertaining to you your running gear.
    All the parts you need pertaining to running gear would have been delivered in 72 hours.
    Fiberglass work should have been completed in that time frame.

    Have you all considered a smaller and more affordable vessel that you all could operate better? New watcher over here. From what I've gathered, your Mrs. Was at helm and attempted to overtake a barge, in hopes to maintain speed with the "buddy boat" . Ultimately grounding the vessel, and causing thousands in damage. Do you all have a chart plotter or depth finder? I love your spirit. There's people doing the loop on glorified pontoons and shanty boats, and this looks like negligence on your behalf. youre trying to sell your point of view to your insurance company. Bite off what you can chew. Glad no one was injured.

      Thank you for following along! And thank you for the comment. Just need to correct a few things you have totally wrong. 1)We did not run aground, we were no where near shore nor too shallow. We hit something submerged like a dead head or a log or something, several people traveling the rivers did the same. It happens 2)Yes we have a chart plotter depth sounder etc.. 3) absolutely no negligence on our behalf, had you been at the helm you would have impacted this same object. 4)Don't care what our insurance company thinks no need to "sell" them on anything we know what happened.....and they are certainly not checking out our videos to get my input...thats just silly.
      Thank you for watching and commenting. I just wanted to set the record straight. We appreciate you following along!

    its to bad that some marinas hold up on repairs till insurance agrees, from what i have seen it is not the hole stringer that has been compromised and yes to remove parts throw them on the ground they should have been sent out for repair seems to me you are getting the runaround Fiberglass work is not that hard it is the system best project maniger for the work is you and you should watch it ,all repairs

    I am a simple man. I don’t know why they can’t put a chain under the motor mount as a sling and support it to jack it up and get the mount off the beam. Fix the fiberglass and reinforce with steel, put mounts back and lower that side of the engine. Repeat on the other side. Seems the shop is dragging feet a bit.

    Jut found your channel so excuse my delay in commenting on past videos. This does not surprise me AT ALL. Boat yard owners are notoriously shady and your situation is exactly what they love. They love boat owners that drop a boat in the yard and have to leave it. The clock is running. They will milk it for every last dollar, complain to insurance, over estimate and always under deliver. They are all crooked and take advantage. Good luck moving forward.

    I don't mean to be unkind, but you are way over reacting and need to stop and think. Just because your Boat was damaged the whole world can't just stop everything that was going on and already scheduled , I am sure out for weeks at this Boat Yard. So they can concentrate on getting your Boat repaired. Would that be fair to the other Boats that were already there and needed some repairs or service too. In reality you got to get in line just like everyone else does, that how it works, unless your willing to pay an extreme premium to prioritize your Boat ahead of others waiting in line. Being a Sailing Yacht owner I know this to be true and how it works in my experiences.

    • @toddbrauselling
      @toddbrauselling 4 місяці тому +1

      You have a point as a boat owner myself, but when you are not on site, it’s more likely your boat won’t get the attention had you been near.
      It will work out.

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  4 місяці тому +2

      No worries, you are not being unkind. It is a fair perspective. Maybe we were not clear...they told us things would be done. We did not demand anything, we "asked", we were told a line of BS over and over again by the yard. This yard has a reputation for doing just that. Everything that didn't happen as planned was "their plan" not ours....we did not ask to be prioritized, we were not pushy or demanding, we were at their mercy and only wanted them to do what they told us they would do when they told us they would do it. Not BS us or ignore us, which is exactly what they did. Thank you.

      How so? This is one of the top marine repair facilities around.
      They are a busy shop they have other clients who have waited their turn.
      It's notllike nobody had anything to do when the boat showed up.
      This area is full of multi million dollar vessels.
      It's funny someone breaks down and expect everything to be dropped and work on their stuff.

    • @cruisingandromeda

      Thank you. I want to reiterate, the craftsmen and all the techs, anyone who laid hands on Andromeda did and exceptional job and they are great people, some of them I have become friends with and stay in touch with. The "management" at this facility is terrible in execution...very nice people, however the communication, scheduling and follow through was a joke! We really appreciate your support Dr. John! Thank you!:)

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  4 місяці тому

      Hi Scott...read my reply to Dr John. Also please stay tuned for more on this topic. We did not "expect" everything to be dropped like you incorrectly stated. We expected to have done what they said they would do, when they said they would do it. They picked the timeline...not us. Our frustration was from this yard not doing what they said they would do, among other things. Thank you for the perspective, I agree with you in general. But in the case of our frustration it was being told things over and over again....that never happened. We learned that they have a reputation for this exact issue.
