    I owned a M 26X for several years and absolutely loved it. The best boat I’ve ever owned. A couple of mods that I really liked were installing a composting toilet (no smell and easy to dump and set up and a water bladder under the V berth with on demand electric pump for galley and head sinks. A creature comfort mod consisting of integrated Bimini, dodger and cockpit enclosure. I loved the layout down below and made many overnight coastal cruises. Unfortunately I’m now 80 years old with health problems that ended my sailings but I wish for you many wonderful days and nights on your boat.

    This has to be one of the best, most detailed interior tours of one of these boats that I’ve seen. Great job.

    Had a 2000 model 26x purchased new for nearly 20 years. Couple of comments. When the mast is stowed the spreaders go under the upper deck lifelines. Leaning them on top of the lifelines bends the spreaders and stretches the lifelines as your boat shows. Although must admit the lifelines are so short as to be pretty much useless anyway. Some folks remove the spreaders each time they step the mast but it's not necessary; you can maneuver them under first one side, then the other. There are lots of videos on mast stepping that show you how.
    The drainage hole in the floor pan by the ladder is a factory provision. I added two more in the corners so it would drain when the boat is heeled.
    You were fortunate to find one in pretty much factory condition. Most of these are heavily modified. Mine certainly was.

    This is the best interior walk through of the MacGregor I have seen. I prefer the X to the M because of the location of the head. Also the X has a basin in the head, even though it is small- at least there IS one.

    Excellent video. In the process of buying basically this exact boat (viewing in a few days) and am pleased to say I like everything about it. The one I'm getting has all the extra storage mods you mentioned people do, and larger bench tops with a fold down tap.
    I'll definitely be replacing the glorified bucket with a proper marine toilet.

    Prob the best walk through of this boat I’ve seen yet! Thank you. You even included laying in the beds. I’m about the same height as you so now I can actually get a better feeling of the headroom of this boat. Just out of curiosity since you’ve said you’ve looked at a 26M, does the 26M have a bit more cabin height and more height in the rear berth? With the double raccoon/double stacked windows, is there actually equal more height? Seeing them around the area out and about on the water and eyeing it, they look roughly the same. Haven’t had the opportunity to step into any of these boats yet. I really want the M but if it comes down to finding a good deal on a X, then I don’t care

    The small drain hole beneath the companion way ladder is there by default. The boat yard started to put them in sometime around '98. It's there to warn you in case a large amount of water should fill up the bilge. If it weren't there, you'd probably notice the hazard too late.

      New to sailing and late to the party it seems, i want a 26X as well, and I have been looking for where the bilge is in this boat, it seems is in many parts, up front by the bow, in the back as well.... do you know where the actual bilge is in the 26x?
      Thanks!

    • @RoaldKoger
      @RoaldKoger 12 днів тому

      @@cuestion-de-tiempo There is no central bilge. The 26X has it's water ballast tank where other sailboats have the bilge. Depending on the heeling, any water in the bow area will flow to either the port or starboard bilge. The starboard bilge is the largest, best practice however would be to have bilge pumps on either side.

      You're not far off...Well loaded with crap but with empty water ballast my 26X's original old Honda 50A will crank it to 20 mph without undue fuss according to my GPS, which is, yeah, about 17 knots. It might well churn a bit faster, but I'm a gentle sort. In fact, I'm seldom in a "get up on plane" hurry, but I do test from time just to blow out the cobwebs.

      @@BilgemasterBill I haven't taken mine to full throttle, just up to the 6000 rpm mark, where it was purring along at 15 knots. I'm happy enough with it, but if I do ever change the engine i'll go for a Yamaha 80 2 stroke. Same sort of weight but extra oomph.

    Thanks for taking the time to give us a looksee at your new 26X. I was referred here from the 'MacGregor and Tattoo Sailors Forum' at www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=28345.
    Like my own 2001 26X here in Virginia, yours seems "nicely unmolested" by any too-hamfisted mods--damned near stock. I must say your trailer seems a bit hardier than my original American style OEM one. It must have been thanks to a higher UK requirements thing. In case you were still wondering, mine also has that little drain hole at the floor below the companionway running back to the bilge. The head has similar drainage.
    Anyhow, thanks again for the tour!
