First Impressions Of Willemstad | The Capital Of Curacao
Important note: Some people objected to my stating in other videos that the ABC islands are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, saying that they've recently gained independence. I try really hard to get my facts right in my videos. I fact-check things before filming and also fact-check what I've said while I'm editing. And although each of the islands has gained greater independence at various stages, all of the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius are still technically part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which you can confirm if you look at any source. (There are slightly different designations for some of the islands.) That's also why I said in my first video about Aruba that I wouldn't be counting it as another country I've been to (even though I would love to add it to the list!). But I need to have some sort of standard and I'm going by the UN list of sovereign countries. You can see here that Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, etc. aren't included on that list, but instead are included under the Kingdom of the Netherlands: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states I'm not taking a position on the issue either way, I'm just trying to stick with the established facts. Have a great day.
Seems alot less windy
ABC islands do in fact belong to the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
Is that why you haven’t visited Taiwan because it’s not listed in the UN list? Then sorry man you’re missing out.
@@Apero1Spritz No, that's not why I haven't been to Taiwan. If I was just trying to add countries I wouldn't have come to the ABC islands or gone back to Mexico, etc. Taiwan is high on the list to visit, but so are lots of other places. One country at a time. :)
@@garywilson1688 I'll try to show it in another video.
Hi, originally from Sweden, moved to Curacao many years ago, loving it. Aruba is built for tourists, but Curacao has so much more to offer. Somebody wrote to watch out for the crime, truth is that there is no more crime here than anywhere else (Aruba just don't talk about there's!). 25-32 C year around, beautiful diving (no suite needed!), cozy beaches, many great restaurants and bars, most people speak English (and Papiamentu, Dutch and Spanish) and are in general very friendly.
May I ask you if a permit/visa is required for EU Citizens to live in Curacao, please ?
@@paolomoras5504 I think you can come as a tourist and extend the permit to max 3 months, but if you want to live here you need to apply for a residence and a work permit. Check site gobiernu.cw, maybe they can help with the details.
Arubans love to talk bad about Curaçao. They always try to paint us as a crime filled island, but we have not kill any tourist or kids like them.
Exactly! I purchased a house in Curacao 10 years ago and love the island, (also live in Florida/US). Curacao's diversity and people make it a place I want to live.
Spännande att höra, tänkte besöka curacao när pandemin är lver, något ställe du kan rekommendera att besöka?
Fun facts about Curaçao.
1. Curaçao has the most historic sights and history in the Caribbean
2. Curaçao has the biggest and tallest bridge in the Caribbean
3. Curacao have the biggest ship port in the Caribbean
4. Curaçao is the first island to have a gay pride in the Caribbean
5. Curaçao has the oldest Jewish synagogue in the entire western hemisphere
6. Papiamentu is a language originally created in Curacao by the Africans who arrived in Curacao. (Curaçao people still speak this language today)
7. Curaçao has the most diverse local cuisine originally from Curaçao (kuminda krioyo)
8. Curaçao is the only island in the Caribbean that have the (blue edge) meaning the ocean floor drop very deep within meters. (Psst!! You can actually see a submarine just next to you at the harbour)
9. Curaçao is the only island in the Caribbean that actually has its own music and dance that is not commercialised (ritmo kombina, tambú, wals)
10. Curaçao has bays, beaches & marines and Curacao people speak 4 languages standard ✊🏽✌🏽
Well said my friend 😊
So true
Can't agree any more!
Number 6 is a bit more complex that what you stated. not wrong just over simplified. 7 is an odd statement ;)
@@Rudebeaujon no it's not. What part did your brain fail to comprehend?
I'm live in Curaçao, its cool to see such a big youtuber here.
me to lol
We are visiting Curacao and are having a great time.
The reason that many of us speak English, Spanish, French/German is because they teach us em in school.
Glad to see that big youtubers like yourself even thought about coming to our island. Hope you enjoyed your stay!
Curacao has some of the best diving in the world - there is an abundance of spectacular sites (like the Mushroom Forest, for one) as well as beautiful shallow snorkeling sites if you don't have diver certification. Try to take advantage of this, if you can. I used to be in Curacao frequently and always loved it - colorful and vibrant. And yes, the Amstel Beer was always the brew of choice lol.
Went to the ABC islands in March. Curaçao was my favorite
'Once you break the walls that's been holding you captive your journey to explore the world can finally begin'. Written on the wall 3:23.
+1... I saw that mural in person my first time in Curacao. Stopped me in my tracks and moved me to tears when I saw it. Happened again in Gabriel's video. Hoping to stretch my wings and travel again soon... Curacao included.
Did you like my island.. Thank u to filming my beautiful island 👍🍺
I’m glad you had the time to visit my island. The Spanish thing is because there are allot of Dominicans, Colombians and Venezuelans living there. Because Papiamento sounds so much like Spanish, allot of them (if not all) don’t bother learning Papiamento because they’re like: “oh well, they can speak and understand Spanish so we’re good”
Anyways I can’t wait to visit my island in 6 weeks 😍😍
Looks more interesting than Aruba. Thanks for sharing.
Paul Anderson and the food as well✨✨
🇨🇼🇨🇼🇨🇼🇨🇼 Ur more than welcome to visit my beautifull island.
You should have visited Rif Fort. It is very interesting
a lot more dangerous
Aruba 🇦🇼 is 178 km2, close to the size of Liechtenstein 🇱🇮 which is 160 km2 and used to have the exact same flag as Haiti 🇭🇹.
Curaçao 🇨🇼 is 444 km2, close to Andorra 🇦🇩 which is 468 km2
Bonaire is 294 km2, close to Malta 🇲🇹 which is 316 km2.
This place looks great and the people seem to be so friendly. That guy at the start was really cool :)
That’s one hell of an upgrade from Stockton to a beautiful Caribbean Island. Good On Him! 👍
Thanks, hope you'll visit some time!
Im from curacao and its great to see how you guys like our island
Ikr same here
Great video! I went there in December 2019 to spend the holidays with my boyfriend. The people are overall "dushi" and welcoming. They actually approach you and say "hello" - something I am definitely not used to where I live. It's a lovely island and the beaches have such clear water unlike freaking Galveston. :-(
My island❤️ 🌴 Bon Bini( welcome)
Love you lol
I did not know that there is such a place called Curacao
Hope you'll visit some time!
You were looking for the Floating Market, weren't you? The boats come from Venezuela, and the border between them and the ABC islands is closed. I know that the aerospace is closed, but I'm not sure if the maritime passages are open yet. It might be because of that that the market was not set up.
Third time I went to Curacao, I had this idea that I would buy some produce from the vendors at the floating market, and donate whatever I bought there to a local food bank - hoping to benefit both these itinerant merchants and residents of the island. Was sad to see the sea border closed and the boats absent.
Thank you for showing me Curacao. I'm going there near end of year.
Have a great stay!
Willemstad is so colorful! The entire island is beautiful of course. Loved the video!
Its so nice to see that you visit my island Curacao i live there its a beautiful city
Thanks for visiting 🤗🇨🇼
Hesta familiaaarrrrrrrrrrrr
I've been there in 2011 ... still remember the feeling of the breeze on my face. Missing this heavenly place so much 😢 💖
wow curacao....don't forget to drop by at campo alegre. heheheh... enjoy
wander lust piglett😂😂😂
😂😂🤦🏽♀️
I just discover your channel on my recommendation page and I think it’s because I live in Curaçao. I swear, if I knew about you before, I would have been your tour guide 😅
Thanks, maybe next time. I'm now in Bonaire. :)
I think your next adventure should be to St Lucia. If you’ve ever seen photos of it, you would know how gorgeous the island is.
I live in Curaçao and is awesome to se one of my favorite UA-camrs on my Iland
My wife and I were there this pas August. Lots of dogs need homes and the locals do not treat the dogs to well. So ,if you travel there please consider adopting a dog. We were the 1st people to adopt a dog from the USA so they know how to do it now. Or contact me if you need any help I know lots of the contacts. The island is tiny. Beautiful beaches and good local food
some history on the island for sure, sadly Slavery is a huge part of the history with some sad museums to check out
All the dogs we're adopted from the shelter last month I think. But more people adoping them os a good idea!!
Ah , highlight of my graveyard shift, a cool new vid from Gabriel! Good stuff! Funny how the architecture is a sort of Dutch/Caribbean mix. Looks pretty unique.
I knew it! Curacao! Now this place is more me.. Alot more lively and seems there is more industry here. I love, love LOVE, the architecture here and seems to have a greater variety of wood windows and doors like I LOVE! The food prices so far seem better for tourist areas, the fact that like Puerto Rico, Spanish is spoken there will appeal to me greatly, and well, lets see what the next video tells us about prices and so on! I do see from just the sheer amount of people, that crime and beggars, MAY or may not be prevalent there. I saw alot of graphitti and some derelict buildings which indicates some troubles but too early to say right?
It is a colorful and lovely city.
I want to shoot walk videos not only in Japan but also in Curacao.
Thanks, hope you'll visit some time!
Curacao looks a lot more lively and cheaper breakfast lol
Thanks, hope you'll visit some time!
Yes,and there are some really nice people🤩
When you we're close to getting to the market you just waled the other way. Sad that you did not show that one spot !
Next time ask anyone. We are happy to help you!!
And you hear and see more spanish bc there are to many latino immigrants. And you don't get to see our locals as much as you should
Omg someone actually came to my native island I'm so happy
Cool. :)
Im headed to turks and caicos June 13 to 19. Hopefully you take a detour there. If you do, beers on me! Keep it up brother. Ive strayed and watched other travel vloggers, but you stay consistent with your informative approach to the art of the vlog. THANK YOU
Hi Gabriel! I like Curacao , it's a pretty place and the people seem very friendly... Loved the colorful buses.. Your food looked good.. Take care.. 😊
Dude....we ate there just recently on out trip down there. Since we fell in love with Amsterdam and the culinary delights there.... we ordered the Bitterballen, heese Croquettes, and Dutch fries...washed it down with a Poorter beer. Was fantastic!!
Thx for showing my home island, when you have time take a bus to bandabou and janthiel there is much more to see
This is an amazing video. Thanks for sharing. I went there last year and loved it. You and me walked over the same streets. I love Punda.
I'm loving the Caribbean, Gabe!
Thanks, hope you'll visit some time!
Curacao in comparison to Aruba is less tourist like build. Curacao has more variety. We have beaches all over the island. But if you want to experience the nature of Curacao you have to go to the Banda bou ( other side) . There you have paid and free beaches. Come to my island and eat johnny cake in the morning, with a apple lovers juice, and enjoy the chill way ❤️
I visited in 93
JAMAICA NICE Nicee alot has changed since 93. Alot of old buildings have been restored since then. We still need to do alot, but it also has it charms 😃 since a couple of years we have a small mall called Sambil, hyatt hotel, the renaissance hotel.
@@marlygirl3761 Ok,well,it was beautiful back then and still beautiful today..I went there because my mom and sis were going to the U.S.but I didn't have my visa yet so my mom took me to Curacao as a consolation, and It was awsome...Very good atandard of living..Am surprised its not as popular as it should be..Oh by the way I see you all have made much improvements in Soccer ,so much that yall beat JAMAICA at the last Caribbean soccer finals.lol
@@jamaicanice1522 The Jamaicans who live here are very nice people 💖
I live there and its so calm and good🥰 come try Curacao!
Look forward to you checking out the beach 🏖 and swimming 🏊. Looks nice and sunny ☀️
Oh how I just love all of the bright colors...it's Beautiful there....love your traveling video's Gabriel...
i'm in willemstad for 10 weeks right now! really cool to have you here at the same time as me!
Colorful town with real locals - not overly touristy looking.
I just came here because I live in Curacao
Man, I also want to grow old on one of these islands then spend all my available time sitting on a bench in the shade and playing dominos.
And I gotta say, this island looks a helluva lot nicer to me. Maybe it's all the green? Aruba looked kinda dry and run down...
The florin is papiamentu but we also call it guilder in English and in Dutch it's gulden
Curacao has a slight Victorian feel to it. I like the look of it much better than Aruba so far. It has a much more artsy feel to it also.
Such an interesting Mishmash of carribean and european.
I should say Thanks for your amazing video!😊
I didn’t expect that they have Belgium beers in Curacao (Leffe) Enjoy your stay Gabriel.
Ciao... Gabriel... You are a great man... To make such amazing videos... It seems like a nice place... Grazie mille 💐💐💐💐💐
Grazie
Thanks, hope you'll visit some time!
Always a pleasure being first to like your videos. Keep up the great work👍🏽👍🏽
Chris Brown hey chris brown! Great to see that a big artist like yourself watches gabe’s videos, cheers!
@@nycchris718 lol
Im so happy you are showing off my beautiful island, you should ask a local tour guide for special spots on our island thatare quite hidden! I recommened burraku tomasito at the beach Playa Kalki and the Blue room. You should definetly check out banda bou, where most of our beautiful beaches are located
You just drank the best smoothy in town my friend. Welcome to Curaçao 🙏🌞 Bob Esprit Gym is the best gym in town, if you are familiar with the gym
Cool video Gabe, place looks very colourful indeed ... Safe Travels 👍👍
Cant wait to see the ocean
I love Leffe Blonde, but not as much as I love Gabe and his videos.
The Spanish thing might be because there have been a lot of ppl from Venezuela moving to the island. Traditionally, but "as of late" it has increased with the situation over there.
Hi Gabriel, just a suggestion... it would be nice if you visit some of the homes so we can see how the locals live.
I might be selling the place short by saying this, but it feels a bit like Cartagena without the touts. Great sights/insights as usual, Gabe!
I thought the same thing actually, it does have a similar look and a feel in a way.
Yesss
Guy almost gave Gabriel a heart attack with his limited travels..haha concept just sitting still in one place is foreign. Im on long island and half the people at work would not leave to even go 30 miles into nyc or see the rest of the country ...for years ive met people on long island who have never left.
Wow, that's a trip. They would go across the island and have culture shock.
Gabriel, till when you’re staying on the island? We would like to take you out for dinner only if you would like. My husband and I have been watching all your videos 😃
Hi Gabriel, There's more happening in Curacao, as you go to the bigger islands it gets busier more hustling going on.
"2 at a time, thats the only way we do it boss". - STOCKTON
This is soo cool.. I'm from Curaçao.. Hope you enjoyed your stay!!
Thank you, it was great.
All of those islands belong to me from now on. To end the debate, I’ll purchase them asap. So no need to argue anymore.
I love the art they made out of a blocked up old building. "Once you break the walls that hold you captive, your journey to explore the world can finally begin." Looks like English is their language making it easy for us to understand. It is an old Dutch colonial place quoting prices in Guilders, but the exchange rate is terrible today if Guilder is still an actual currency like it still was in the 90's being one of the many colorful European currencies still existing then. I would imagine it costs next to nothing for locals to live there. It seems like they're chill and easy going, but maybe bored out of their gourds. They'd be crazy to move to America or somewhere like Stockton, California for the cost of living is so high and culture stressful. But sure enough, the whole world is still intoxicated with America dreaming out of boredom and a perception it's the golden promised land of liberty, peace, and prosperity.
you should try a bbq place called bbq express, it is one of the most popular thing in curacao it is called truki pan
You should celebrate when you get 300k , cool spot Gabe 😉👍🏻☀️🌴
Wow! Is there any place you haven’t been yet?! Haha- What an awesome and adventurous life! 💚💚💚
Are you going to Cuba? Or RD?? Can’t wait to see if you do go!
No too much beggars trying to sell you shit on those islands
Nice exploration of Punda, that's what the main city is called, when you cross the water it's called Otro Banda (the other side).
Thanks.
Wow Gabe, always wanted to see Curaçao.
Have you played geoguesser? I'd imagine you'd be pretty good at it.
Thank you for visiting my Land🇨🇼❤
Check out the Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue and Kura Hulanda Museum while you're in Willenstad. Both worth a visit.
Hello! Ho's here from BackPackYourLife
last video?
The reason why am watching these vids are because I live there and I saw my dad's car in his first vid
@geometry dash lol! what a feeling no? Wait until he goes to Puerto Rico, if he goes to my home town I will feel the same honor :D I do like Curacao btw! Even the name I love since I was a teen!
Very nice vlog ! You are the best !
Thanks.
Ilha Graciosa !
Curaçao is on my bucket list, includind the rest of the ABC islands....
Rocked by the Swinging Old Lady!
I oppose to you deciding to count Aruba and Curaçao as the Netherlands. Its like calling all of the british commonwealth as 1 place. We have different cultures and languages.
Yes, I understand. But it's not up to me. I'm just going by the official list of independent countries, which includes Aruba, Curacao, etc. as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states
Do you typically have 2 meals a day? Prices definitely better here then Aruba.
Cool I’m moving here in 2 months from the USA
My friend, good job as always, you're all over the world. I highly appreciate your stamina, both mental & physical health. Surely you can be a world leader. Alright, friend, have a fantastic time.
Thanks man, have a good one as well.

It’s a very lovely town
Hey Gabe, I would love to know how you hold your camera. People never seem to notice that the camera is pointed right at them lol.
I use a Gopro and I'm holding it in my hand. It's really small and I turned off the blinking lights when it's filming, so people don't really notice it.
buen recorrido por la isla, no lograste ver una parte muy importande la cual es el mercado flotante de los barquitos de venezuela.! lo cual le da vida y colorido a el centro de la ciudad! dushi isla.. venezuela y curazao paises hermanos!! (good tour of the island, you could not see a very important part of which is the floating market of the venezuela boats. which gives life and color to the center of the city! dushi island .. venezuela and curazao countries brothers !!)
Did that waiter have an attitude, or am I reading it wrong due to editing? He seemed a bit short with you.
No, he was cool.
He seemed a bit rushed and not particularly happyto say the least! I definitely picked up on that, too.
Sometimes I catch myself being a bit overly observant of servers because I was one before going to university as well as when I was attending university. It can be a difficult job, so I always say please, and thank you, and treat them with kindness and respect. Therefore I immediately pick up on when a server is having a bad day or is not giving good service. @@46monkeyes
Greetings from Curacao 🇨🇼
Well done bro nicely done!
In from curacao if you wanted you could’ve just stayed on the bridge when it moved your alowwed to do that
Your the best!
How much was the food at the end and the leffe
Really looking forward to watching your Curacao videos. It's where my parents went on their honeymoon and I know very little about the place. Of course that was in the mid 1960's so I'm sure it's changed a bit. I guess there used to be an Amstel Brewery there, my dad said it was the best beer he ever had. Of course the set and setting may have helped a bit haha
Indeed there was an Amstel brewery operating in Curacao, unfortunately they were closed. I can confirm that it was a great beer.
