A fine demo of a fine guitar. You"re becoming something of an ambassador for the C.F. Martin brand in Asia. I hope you and your family have the best of all Christmases you can have.
Thank you Jonathan for another great video and wonderful music. I have been playing my Martin DM for almost 20 years and it has become a fine sounding guitar. The best acoustic guitar I have ever played was a Martin HD-28VR...it was simply beyond amazing! I am sending blessings for your fur friends/family..they are so important in our lives. Thanks again for great inspiring videos.
I just bought one of these. They are insanely good. As good as any standard series, I know, I have a D-18 as well and have had other standard series Martins.
This justifies what I've been trying to tell my fellow band members all along. You take a nice sounding acoustic guitar like this with a good mic in front of it and its a heavenly and satisfying sonic experience. THEN, we bring in the pickup, and you lose 300 hundred years of intensive effort and passion in design and development of the acoustic guitar as it has become. Such a horrid shame pickup systems as a whole just haven't been able to properly retain and preserve all those sonic elements that make a nice acoustic guitar such a beautiful thing. Nice video, thank you.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud How do you compare this D16E with say the SC-13E or the GPC-16E? I know this one is a Dread and GPC is Grand Performance shape. I am in market for a Martin or similar Taylor. I owned a Taylor 310 Dread with electric added by Taylor factory - superb. But it was stolen recently. Looking at Taylor 214 CE as well.
Same here man 😂😂 you think its gonna sound better than the d18?? Theres a lot of tradeoffs between the 2. I just hope the smaller body still sounds great.
I think it's the perfect combination, a 000 depth on a dreadnought body with spruce and rosewood. Paying for more is more or less just paying for additional decorative touches. Law of diminishing returns 🤑.if I had $3500 I would buy a d28 as well but I don't.
Also the d18 has mahogany back and sides. The rosewood is on the headplate and fret board and an LR Baggs anthem pick up. Personally, I prefer the sound of rosewood over mahogany, it sings better especially the high notes
I'm sorry about your friend, stay strong. I'm trying to decide with this guitar or the Yamaha A5R..... I really would like to play both of them before I purchased one but no one has any around my county.
Super great review ! Really the best review I have ever watched of any guitar. Thanks a lot for your professional review. May God bless you and your family and wish you happy holidays . Thanks again ! Jeff Clark from ROCKDALE TEXAS
I just bought one a week ago ($1553.00 out the door) Look at the "blemishes" above the soundhole (the light colored area at the 0:47 point. On my D16E that blemish is a wide line (about 3/8 wide that runs from the top to the soundhole). I want a perfect top (I have seen them) What should I do? There are 4 other blemished areas on the top. The guitar sounds and plays fantastic. I could not be any happier in that regard. I really liked the 3rd piece (the piece with the Fischman pickup) I am 65, worked 45 years in the auto garage. My fingers are bent and do not move so good like yours but I still love playing as best I can. The D16E is my second guitar. First was a Yamaha FG830. Now you understand why I am so happy with the Martin. The Martin feels like it weighs a full pound less than the Yamaha. No comparison in sound or playability. Never has changing to a better "tool" helped me in any task so much. I told my girlfriend about the Martin, gave her the model and suggested she "look it up" (the price) She replied "Oh I know about Martin guitars, I have my father's (her father passed away in 1970) 1965 D28". I asked if I could handle the sale for her. I could not afford to keep it. I was very surprised. It is possible it comes my way as a gift.
@MeS&W Hello. I saw a similar pattern on a Taylor that was being used in a UA-cam video. I mentioned the pattern to the owner and he replied "oh that's my bear claw" The pattern does resemble the claw marks of a pretty big bear.
Good workmanship and great instrument. If I had to choose between this Martin or a Furch Yellow Gc-CR w/SPA MC.... Which would I choose? I'm between these two guitars at the moment. Thanks.
I was ready to order one until I learned the body depth was smaller. I’m worried about less volume. I like loud powerful acoustics for bluegrass. Can’t afford a new HD28 so thought this was a stripped down version of it. But apparently the body is more shallow. Wish I could play one first but can’t find one anywhere. It’s got the forward shifted scalloped bracing just like the HD28 but I’m worried about the shallow body depth 🤦♂️. The standard D28 I had several years ago wasn’t loud enough for me either so I’m afraid the D16 won’t be either And yours sounds GREAT 👍🏻. Beautiful too. I love a plain stripped down basic guitar look. You seem to be a really cool guy too 👍🏻 Cheers my friend Johnny Kentucky USA 🇺🇸
Hello Johnathan. Since I have one of these (for over a year) and I have had my FGX5's for about a month now. I love both (well all 3) I really notice the ease in handling with the narrower Martin. They sound different. Th FGX5 is brighter. I can't say which one is better. I want a concert size now. Either a 000-!5M Martin or a ACR5 Yamaha. I really thought a full dreadnought size acoustic would be for me. I am feeling more comfortable with the smaller size guitar. A live it and learn type thing. The neck is slicker on the Yamaha but the tuners are much better on the D16E. The one dress up item Yamaha backed off on, the tuners.
Sorry to hear about your dog I hope he gets better real soon. 🙏 Would you recommend this guitar? The D28 is out of my reach. I love the look of this D16 and that it’s a dreadnaught.
So, is the Fishman VT-Enhance a dual system pickup, like the L.R.Baggs Anthem? If I recall, I think it's meant to be an undersaddle piezo and a bridge plate sensor. Does the L.R.Baggs Anthem use the same idea, or is it different?
@@JonIsJustTooLoud you should go public with the song. It's a beautiful piece. Also, where can I buy/listen to She's Gone and guitar chords/tab. Your playing is so soulful and truly inspiring. Thank you
Hi Jonathan, your guitar review is great and your guitar technique is even better! I came here for a review of Martin D16E and realized later through your other videos that you are the composer of the famous song Jie Tuo! That's just amazing! As to guitar I really like the sound of D16GT but I bought a D18 at last. I still feel D16GT sounds great. What's your opinion about this D16E comparing to D28? Thanks!!
@jonathan Koa question man!! Just found you channel its awsome and i hope your family and friends are well. My question would be compared to the D28?? Where are we sitting besides price range? Is it the bass of the powerhouse D 28? Or what makes it different to you?
Great review as usual, Jon. You know I love my Martins, so I'm not surprised that you are falling for them too! Best of luck with the D-28, I'm it will work out. Also, prayers and positive thoughts for your pup. That's a tough thing to go through during the Christmas holiday but as you said, I'm sure he's in good hands. Best wishes to your family over the Christmas season - 🎄🎆🎇👍👍👍

Yeah but its good to have a pickup when you gotta play live. Playing mic'd up on a huge stage sucks.
L.R.Baggs Anthem.
Or better yet, a Japan made Takamine on a pickup system. It sounds Very acoustic like.
Lovely demo of this beautiful Martin, you seamed to gel with it well. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas, best wishes!
