The comeback of cassette comeback!
Great to see you again, Tony. Enjoyed seeing cassettes from my home country, and good to see we don’t make Type Zero’s!😂😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Can't believe it. So happy to have Tony back.
I received a brand new fountain pen from China only last week. Very tactile. Still own 2 cassette decks and 2 Walkman type players. Something satisfying about using them. Particularly when you play a cassette on a truly hi fi system. Guys who have never heard this format before are amazed that old tech can sound so good.
Your presentation in these videos is always excellent Tony. Great to see another!
So happy you're back! We still have so much to explore in the world of cassette oddysies.
Great to see the master at work. Thank you, Tony!
Finally a new video Tony. I'm desperately looking at the old ones for the fifth time.
So thanks a lot!!!
Thankyou Daniel. You gifted all of us with a great new video and the opportunity to see these in action on a good deck.
Wohoo Tony´s back! What a lovely surprise.
Many thanks Toney, great to see the Dragon in action again.
yes yes yes finally a video again about cassettes, love these videos.
good to have you back on the tube tony. hope there a many more tapes to come (:
Good to see my home country could make decent cassettes .
Looking forward to seeing the Philips ones tested as I’ve used The European ICM/ Philips and found them to be excellent with the correct bias settings .FSX / UCX .
I still love useing tapes! I love the sound of them. Over the years!
Thank you Daniel! Thank you Tony! A lot.
Never gets old, keep up the good work 👍
The 'master' is back. Another great video. I never gave up writing with pens. Helps with my creativity. In actual fact I got back into typing using my old Olympia Traveller DeLux S typewriter that I got for my birthday circa 1986
A new video! This has made my week. Thanks Tony
Ah yes! Cassettes from my home country!! 🇦🇺It's good to see that Greencorp tapes are decent! There is a few more Aussie tapes (not Aussie made though) that I thought of, like Acme XHG that were sold in Woolworths back in the 90s and 00s, and of course Cannon Power! Nice seeing a new video Tony btw!
Those Acme and Cannon Power tapes are barely Type 0, let alone Type 1. They were shit.
@@TheKnobCalledTone. the cannon power ones are better than acme but I’ve had one good acme and two good cannon powers and I have a 3 head deck which made them sound very decent in my tests. I did have 3 acme tapes that did not sound good but it depended on if you got a good batch or not, I do agree that the quality control was crap with acme but the cannon power with Dolby B does sound musical
@@TheKnobCalledTone. I don’t fully agree that all of them were shit… it might’ve been a few factors like storage and a bad batch but with a good batch they can sound good fully biased up on a 3 header
@@TheKnobCalledTone. at least they weren’t as bad as the bloody awful Maxim and International tapes that people are selling for way too much! If I had to choose, I’d much rather hear a good recording on a good acme or cannon power than a Maxim or International tape!
Happy Days! A Cassette Comeback video. Making my day.
Thank you, Daniel, your stuff will spawn not one but two videos in this only intermittently active channel. And thank you, Tony, for coming back once again even if you're probably pretty busy.
Excellent video Tony. Very nice to have you back!
Nice one! A new cassette Comeback.
19:09 That Sony UX sure is beautiful. Sony made some very respectable cassettes with a mechanical design of an aesthetically timeless appeal.
Thank you both Tony and Daniel !
Hi tony! nice to see a new cassette video up! good video as always! looking forward to the next videos! if i ever come across some unique cassettes in abundnce i will certainly be shipping you some!
Thanks for video Tony. I think you made a good point about the pitfalls of 3 head decks and the temptation to be overly critical when comparing the tape to the source. Assuming that we're primarily fans of music, what's most important is that the recording sounds good (enough) when we decide to sit down and listen again.
That's it. I don't level what decks I record music cassettes on. When I play an old recording it either sounds good or it doesn't. If it sounds good, I'm happy with it.
Great you see a new video. I work in tech too, had a couple of Psions back in the day (and still use them on occasion), and still use pen and paper frequently. I'm fond of the tactile. And each of these has its own area where it can't be beaten by something more modern. I've even been making mix tapes lately, there's no other medium that can start where you left off with a press of a button.
Great review Tony I'm Australian & never bothered about our tapes.Nice to see a refreshing look at them
Glad your back. All the best to you mate Regards Kerry
Great to see you back Tony! Cheers! Tony Cruz
Yes!! A new video! Thank you Tony!!!
G'day Tony, from Sydney Australia!
Seeing Greencorp just jogged my memory, I have a VERY old can of "Record Clean Anti-static spray", and I knew I saw that name somewhere, sure enough, it was Made in Australia by Greencorp Magnetics.
Great to see you again!
Almost fell off my chair when this video popped up!
Yes the master of blank tapes are back!
Good to have you back!
Glad you found writing again! I must write or make physically written notes nearly every day - back to basics Tony, love it!
very very cool. never seen an aussie cassette before. thank you for sharing with us!
Great to see you back! Another fantastic video. Can't wait for the next part. 👍🏻
11:52: NL would probably mean Noise Level (also makes sense in regards to the dB values next to it)
I actually have this Greencorp Mastering Cassette at 4:18 in my collection of 99 different sealed cassettes to date.
A pencil from Japan- Hong-Kong etc will work .
Welcome back Tony!!
Love to see you back tony!
Welcome back, Tony!
Good to see you back Tony! Hope you're doing well
Thank you Tony. Had not heard of these brands. All the best to you.
I used to love unwrapping a TDK SA90.
I love that tartan shell, it's very cool.
He's back!
Sunday morning cassette video! 😁
Yesterday I was looking if there was any new video, and you did it today!!!!
Great to watch another one of your vids Tony, Missed yer buddy
Nice to see you back, mate!
But well, Australian cassettes, it's great but you'll have to put your deck upside down in order to use them!
(PS: And I use a fountain pen every day.)
Eee! Welcome back our kid!
Great content 👌
Half hour of entertainment 👍
Welcome back Tony!
I have used those Opus cassettes and they certainly didn't sound that good for me!
Of course I was using a boombox which used a permanent magnet erase head!
I was unfortunate to have such a device, it gave me much pleasure during my youth and I remember that I quickly learnt that if a tape was recorded on a hi-fi system, it sounded much better on my boombox compared to recording on the boombox itself....
So I carried a spare tape everywhere I went because you could never be sure where you might end up and what hi-fi equipment would be there.
I have seen you test tapes that I have tried to use in the past which sounded like crap to me on the sub par equipment available to me back then and can't believe how good they sound on a much better machine!
In fact, just about all cassettes you have tried sound great but for some reason I feel that a boombox really seperated the really good from the really bad...
It's almost like the boombox had a preference for quality tape....
Not all boomboxes were terrible, I came across a 90's sharp which also had a CD player which someone threw out and I took it home and took it apart to get at it's circuits for spare parts, only to realise that this boombox didn't have a permanent magnet erase head...
It actually used an AC biased erase head!
I really wanted to put it back together to test it's performance but it was a bit too far gone....
I didn't expect to find this feature in a 90's boombox because they were already on their way out of fashion but it seems that sharp was still putting in a lot of effort... It's circuit boards were stuffed with melf type resistors! This is a high end component usually found in automotive equipment where reliability is paramount....
I'm now keeping an eye out for another one of these boomboxes because I'm really interested in knowing how good they were....
And on the topic of those DEX cassettes, I looked up blank cassette sales some time ago and came across DEX Audio and they had blank tapes for sale on their website, they are located here in Melbourne and might still be around... I wouldn't be surprised...
I didn't purchase any of their cassettes, plain white tapes just don't do it for me.... A cassette is more than just what is recorded on it... That's why we are still here today talking about them....
You may already know, but Dex Audio are a CD/DVD and Cassette duplicator based in Melbourne, Australia. From their website: "Dex is also proud to offer blank C-90’s and C-60’s direct to the public which can be purchased with or without cases. We are also able to custom-wind cassettes to order please contact our customer service team for more information." Don't know who makes the actual tape though...
I just checked my collection and I have a 'G Tape' made by Grrencorp but is a Type II Chrome. Can't add pics which sicks. Great vid as usual!! More please
Tony, I knew you could list out where that Alexett was made when I sent it to you :-) It's a Forward shell, just as all the other tapes in this video, except for the DEX which I don't know anything about. But the tape in the Alexett could be anything, they only bought C-zeroes from different sources and loaded them from pancakes.
There are later Opus cassettes which are cheaper China/Hong Kong products that are neither Forward nor Greencorp. So I think Opus was not a Greencorp brand. It probaly belonged to that "Musicway Corp" which is listed on the back side, and for this series they happened to get the cassettes from Greencorp.
Cheers. And thanks for the cassettes you sent, I wasn't sure where they came from otherwise I would have thanked you personally. I still have them and will get round to a video on them at some point.
We missed you :)
Cassette Comeback comeback.
Nice one Tony, gud vid...
Yahoo!! A new video from Cassette Comeback!!! As per usual, a great analysis of tapes I'd never heard of. Wasn't that sort of "tartan" shell of the opus also found on Sony CF cassettes? It looked very familiar. And I'm not responsible for the Dex cassettes! Dex is usually what I'm called!!! 😂
Thanks Tony.!
Salut, pe asa deck poti sa inregistrezi orice caseta. Multumim pentru ce faci.
Very nice of you to share this with us again Tony. I really missed seeing something new from you 😁 I really dig those pens you showed us. That takes me back to primary school and having to submit written reports scored on penmanship as well as content. Can you tell me the brand name and are they cartridge or bladder types? 🙏 Peace
They're Jinhao. They're not expensive at all on AliExpress. Quality is a bit hit and miss. They can take cartridges, but they come with adaptors and I fill them from Parker quink bottles.
The Greencorp C90 with the blue leader and the dots indicating the side A and B invokes AGFA vibes.
Opus brand covered audio cassettes and video cassettes. I never thought of them as premium.
Love your videos! I'm trying to get back into cassettes because of nostalgia rsrsrs.... currently, MD is my daily driver
Great video Tony, love the national anthem recommendation. Looking forward to the next video. Cheers
Cheers for sending them! A lovely surprise.
That's so nice. Real friends. Let's have fun in the channel. Note: I remember those cassetes from the 80's.🇵🇹 edit: philips
Great to see this brill keep on love it
I would like Daniel to send me some goodies to test for him.😁 But maybe Daniel doesn't know about my channel or maybe my channel is not worth it because it doesn't rise to the level of yours. Congrats. I'm a big fan of your channel too.🥰
Thank you for another free video.
The Green Corp logo is extremely similar to the Minolta logo😮
Nice one as usual Tony. I have a few Greencorp and Opus tapes in my collection. I didn't consider them high end at the time but i might go back a try some new recordings now that I have decent decks.
Regarding Dex, they were a CD manufacturing plant in Melbourne and they also did mastering work. In 1993, my musical partner at the time and I released our first album on CD. Dex Audio did the CD manufacturing.
Well I never knew that Hong Kong was part of the UK until.97.
😮 I hope 🙏 so !!
Have a little stash of the Philips CD Master in C-60 version - very great sound, they make
Can't wait to see your take on them, especially with the big boys' decks
I don't remember the Greencorp brand, but I remember seeing the Opus and G-Tape branded tapes down here back in the day. Tho most of the tapes I bought BITD were Philips. Go figure.
Hi Tony,
I just happened to come across the video again, still enjoyed it 2nd time round👍
Near the end, you said you were planning on doing a video on the Philips CD Master 90
Cheers from Australia
Simon
As off today , I'm looking forward to future vieos on the PHILLIPS and the newer Green Corp. Tapes.
Oh no, not Music Way products, oh deary deary me. I think G-Tape cassettes were made by Music Way and I remember them being pretty mediocre tapes. That said, I have a cassette carrying case that I believe was made by Music Way, and that tape case, bought for me in 1992 when I was 8, was my constant companion when I was a teenager.
@Cassette Comeback : Where do I purchase a copy of the song you used? What an awesome song.
It's on the UA-cam audio library. You can download it there for free.
Welcome back and thanks for the upload. Do you remember the pens with the digital watch face built in from the 80s...hybrid analogue and digital tech
I was thinking just how accurate tape coatings have to be to prevent drop-outs from occurring when the tape is moving at only 1 7/8 ips. I thought both of those tapes were pretty good but it's not the same as listening directly to the sound.
Glad your back. Where are you based? You sound quite Yorkshire.
As always superb. I am totally of this era and have many tapes with recordings from radio. Rarely missed a tape session for Coldcut Solid Steel in the 90s however I clearly didn’t appreciate enough the technicalities and as such am revitalised . Thanks a mill. Plus was there a time when any old company would knock out freebie cassettes or try and grab a piece of the pie by sticking their name on (probably) the cheapest shite cassettes. I’m thinking of the MP3 player thing where you could buy a Lego one or a Tetleys tea piece of tut. Are there some gems out there, love to know if you can shed some light or even hopefully have some. Cheeers and thanks.
Nice cassette

Greencorp are still around at that same address and they still make magnetic tape, I don't know if it ends up in any cassettes though.
Splicit Capture
Both cassettes sounded great to me i would have been very happy with both .I had the same psion once quality bit of kit when i was at school i enjoyed collecting and trading pens i had a nice gold nib sheafer fountain pen but the nib was very so i sold it for about £2 profit to someone i never liked much .
P.S. - agree with you about pens.
I love a good Pen I have a collection of them I also like Mechanical drafting tools !
Japan got a lot of 10-minute cassettes. Why is that?
Greencorp ... Not released in Japan!
Are Chrome tapes being made anywhere???
Nope
