They also were prevented by state law to raise premiums despite the increased risk, they would legitimately go bankrupt if they had to pay out all these claims for the rates they were at.
@xraywatch1943 this was gross negligence that falls on the shoulders of the political officials! They endangered the lives of their citizens by not ensuring safety measures when in place in the even of a large scale fire that was when not if, to hit the LA area. Correct. Insurance companies have been fleeing CA for a long time. Too risky to do business there. How can insurance companies be expected to do business in a state where they’ll go bankrupt?

Lastly i don’t know why this guy feels the need to go to bat for politicians who’ve failed our state and city. He also did not answer SA’s question as to why insurance customers were dropped. They were dropped because the governor made it illegal for insurance to raise premiums for home owners in fire prone areas however he did not subsidize the loss and potential risk they were taking so the companies did what they always do and look out for their bottom line. This man keeps focusing on Gavin and Karen’s need for responding but fails to focus on THE PREVENTIVE POLICIES that could have minimized this in the first place ! wild fires are nothing new we failed to prepare which exasperated this. SA i don’t want to sound snobby but please bring on an expert when it comes to subject matter like this. SA I agree with a lot almost everything you said. @weepo2651 lol yall just want to play the blame gsme because of politics lol yall do this all the time. When some shit happens under trump the left gonna blame trump yall do this all the time.
As a former federal wildland firefighter, I can speak firsthand to the urgent challenges facing California's forests. The state's growing accumulation of fuel on forest floors demands controlled burns to reduce wildfire risk. However, the combination of 100-hour and 1000-hour fuels, amplified by Santa Ana winds, creates an environment ripe for catastrophic fires. Unfortunately, political resistance in California has hindered the implementation of fuel reduction strategies endorsed by fire ecologists and fire effects specialists within federal agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service. Additionally, the Incident Report section notes that large fuels, particularly 1000-hour fuels, are significantly hindering efforts to contain wildfires. Whether through prescribed burning or mechanical removal, proactive fuel management in areas adjacent to the urban interface is essential for reducing fire risk and improving suppression outcomes.
It’s crazy here. As a lineman in California, we can’t even maintain our right-of-ways until an emergency happens like transmission towers going down. All the open land is on environment lockdown. Permits are impossible to get. So when fires happen or towers go down, we have to grade a road first to get access to the emergency. Also they did lose firefighters in Los Angeles because they refused the vaccine and were then fired.
This is what happens when you have incompetent people in positions they are not qualified for she couldn’t say anything until she got back and got her written statement in front of her

@90sBullsFan yea I disagree. This massive outbreak could of been avoided. There is plenty of cleaning up debris from previous wild fires can help prevent that. Which they refuse to do because in their mind it's bad for the environment. So all the ashes and fallen trees is basically just sitting there ready to ignite. Also preventing it from actually spreading the way it did. The mayor should have never defunded 17 million dollars worth of resources for the fire department literally months ago. So you taking out inmates to help b3cause you don't have enough help.... The reason she did that was to put more money towards homelessness. Now months later they just tripled the amount of homeless due to this breakout. Why would you defund that department when you lead the country in the amount of money spent for wild fires. Also this guy Gavin Newsom is shutting down dams... to save fishes...... I think he just shut down 4 more dams... California already dealing with a bunch of dry land.. why would you do that? They literally ran out of water out of the fire hydrants... how in the world is that even possible when your city is right off the coast.... so there is alot of things they could have done to help prevent this or to atleast control it from spreading the way it did... in my opinion that falls on the leaders.
