Hi Tom, my wife and I are looking to build our own house too. We are going to look at land close to Valencia next week. Do you have any tips on where to start with buying the land and how we would go around choosing a house to build etc?
I'd be glad provide some suggestions. You can go to my "about this channel" page and click on my contact link. Then choose the method of communication, such as email or WhatsApp. It's easier to share lengthy text or a file using that method. I'll start creating a response today and share that with you. Buying property can be tricky because, from my experience, the seller chooses a real estste agent to sell it through, and it may listed with just that one agent. The plot next door may be listed by another agent. They don't seem to share listings. We went to a few agents just to figure out who owned the property we wanted. The property we wanted wasn't even for sale, but the agent found the owner and only then was it put on the market. The town hall will not provide property owners names because, for some reason, it's not allowed, unlike in the US where you can go to city hall and look at the Plat maps, which include the property owner's name. By the way, WhatsApp is used A LOT in Spain for making free phone calls and texting. Even international calls.
I plan to make a video about the specifics we encountered when building our house. Even now, we're waiting on getting permits signed off. I've been collecting material, believe me. But to answer your question, the total amount was, for the house, about €1,000 per sq. meter completely finished. We chose mid-range designer tiles for all interior floors, 3 bedrooms (including "master suite"), 3 full bathrooms, two balcony, laundry room, open living room/dining room, and kitchen. It's 133 sq. meters interior. And a car port. The land was expensive at about €80.000 about a fifth of a acre. But the location, location, location is priceless, with a breathtaking view of the mountains and the city.
@@tmalloydesign Thanks I appreciate the info. Please forgive my curiousity. Thanks for the info. When you have ownership of a property like land and house in Spain. What other kinds of payments do you make on a monthly or yearly basis apart from Electricity, gas and water? For example here in Italy I live in a rented apartment so I pay condominium bills, the house bills (which is different), then gas and electricity and garbage tax.
I come apart of the US where wood is the primary building material. In this dry part of Spain, it's barely used. (Another thing I'm unaccustomed to is that we're required to wall or fence in the property.
Thanks for watching! We paid for the house in 2019 and costs have risen considerably since then. Prices for houses like ours range from 180.000 to 250.000. Many are still made brick by brick and our neighborhood is growing quickly.
Very cool to see construction from the very beginning 😁
Can't wait to move in!
Wow the music and the video are just too good
Thanks!
Django?
Poco a poco!!! 😃

Hi, all looking great! Have you done a vlog on the process of obtaining planning permission and all the hurdles along the way? Thanks!
I've been collecting material along the way and hope to create something with specifics about building our house. Thanks for asking.
When you got the loan did age affect the outcome, im under the impression that they want the loan final payment be before your 70th birthday?
How much did you pay for everything. Land and construction?

And those depend upon the province. Madrid province is more expensive than Guadalajara, for instance.

At the risk of sounding awkward: What were the major differences between construction techniques for homes between both countries?

How much does it cost ??

Hi Tom 👋 does this cost exclude the cost of the land?
