Fun fact: 5:45 was actually not done in post-production. They actually filmed the effect the way it is, on set. They showed this in their mv shooting behind.
Here's a small rundown. Technically, they were just normal close group of girls (School Trilogy) until they came across a lake (Love Whisper) and the lake granted all them powers. These powers started creating conflicts within the group (Fingertip was between the school trilogy and Love Whisper but this would be considered the beginning of their conflicts) and so Eunha started using her power, which is to turn back time with the butterflies, to save all of them (Crossroads) but in the end, she couldn't save all of them. Apple is the girls falling into the temptations of their powers.
@@PaulLeach123 no problem! Also, another thing. The part where the two girls kiss the apple right after the door closes and the the darkness comes, I think was intentional. Throughout their music videos, they made it clear that the two girls have a special relationship. It's still unclear if they're the same person, siblings, or twins but I believe one of them represents light and dark. I believe Source Music chose them to represent the two sides because the two girls have actually known each other since they were children and share the same real name (Eunbi)
@@PaulLeach123 Eunha does witchcraft to try to resuscitate her friends, but it goes wrong which explains why they transform at the end . We can notice eunha who wears mourning clothes at 7:35.

(in order) *"GLASS BEAD"*, *"ME GUSTAS TU"*, *"ROUGH"* : ordinary friends who grew up together. Their characters and relationship are happy and enjoy their time together. Songs portray their youth and highlight their friendship. "Glass Bead" : school life, "Me Gustas Tu" : their summer vacation together, "Rough" : their graduation day, on the way to become adults. 4. *"NAVILLERA"* : The girls begin to envy each other. The conflict starts. Song also mentions 'envy'. Nabi/Navi (나비) : butterfly symbolizes changes / Metamorphosis. Butterfly will appear a lot in GFRIEND's MVs. 5. *"FINGERTIP"* (mini album "The Awakening") : The girls have supernatural powers. They feel jealous of each other's supernatural power. They try to kill each other. They fight to each other. 6. *"LOVE WHISPER"* (mini album "Parallel") : There is a gap to the story of "Navillera" & "Fingertip". "Love Whisper" somehow fills the gap. "Love Whisper" song came out after "Fingertip" but I think the timeline is after "Rough" and before "Navillera". This is when they got their powers from the mysterious lake. 7. *"SUMMER RAIN"* (repackaged album : "Rainbow") : They regret their actions in previous stories. They miss each other. They reminisce about the past when they were happy together. 8. *"TIME FOR THE MOON NIGHT"* : the lyrics focus on memory and yearning. The scenes were between reality and a dream world. They miss each other's presence. 9-14. (in order) *"SUNNY SUMMER"* (KR), *"MEMORIA"* (JPN), *"SUNRISE"* (KR, JPN), *"FLOWER"* (JPN), *"FEVER"* (KR), *"FALLIN' LIGHT"* (JPN) : mostly, the MVs are in the dream world. The girls can meet each other but in the dream world and they look happy but when they're back in reality, they're sad again. Some scenes in reality and the dream world look connected. A. Before "Crossroads" MV, there is a video trailer : *"A Tale of the Glass Bead : Previous Story"*. It tells the story of previous MVs (and even breaks some of Buddies' previous theories, haha) 15. *"CROSSROADS"* (mini album "回:LABYRINTH"): The girls are trapped in a labyrinth of dream worlds. Eunha (short hair) is like the main protagonist (even from previous MVs). She has the power of "time travel". This MV reveals that she can time travel for 4 times and she used 3 chances already (Fingertip, Time for the Moon Night, Crossroads) and her glass bead starts to look darker. It looks like Eunha can use time travel when interacting with blue butterflies and connecting to sleeping (dream world). Even for the third time, she fails (scenes when focus on her eyes first then show the room behind her fall apart). The girls try to reach out to each other but end up making new mistakes and end up being drifted apart even more. They stand in the crossroads of the labyrinth. There is no resolution to their relationship. They're lost. B. Before "Apple" MV, there is a video trailer : *"A Tale of the Glass Bead : Butterfly Effect"*. Eunha faces 2 roads. After taking one, the girls are in a forest, running, searching. A forest symbolizes going into the unknown. Butterfly effect : a small change can create significantly different outcomes in a later state. 16. *"APPLE"* (mini album "回:Song of the Sirens") : Apple is a symbol of temptation here. They're tempted to 'song of the sirens' (song of death?) & apple. The girls turn darker and they're tempted to seek more power they shouldn't have. CMIIW, add more to this if you want. This is just short version anyway. It'll be too long if I write more....There are story books in GFRIEND's latest two albums 回.
Omg did I just found the most precise and concise explanation of the GFRIEND Universe so far? Wow, I would've love to see you make like a more in detailed post about this because this is pretty amazing and it's accurately summarized.
i would say that love whisper is the first in the gfriend timeline since isnt that when the girls are born and gain their powers on magic island on the lake?
Honestly the stuff happening kinda passes over my head, I just enjoy the aesthetics. Gfriend's recent releases and Loona'a entire debut project are too big brain for me
I agree entirely. I'd love to learn all the story lines and such but there's just so much of it I'll probably just stay here, admiring the beauty of the videos.
The story is kinda complex since their story started from their debut MVs. Those globes are actually glass beads. But basically for this MV, the apple was a sign of temptation which the girls gave into, therefore staining the glass beads red and they turned into the dark side, becoming witches (with the horns at the end). For a more comprehensive review, would recommend watching their 2 "A Tale of the Glass Bead" videos which are abt 2 mins each that detail it more. Thanks for the reaction! Hope you react to their track, Time For The Moon Night because that one too is cinematic and tells a story. :)
The 5:49 was actually also done with a camera lens, it was shown in their MV behind the scenes.. the members said it was cool since she said it was the first time it was used in the country hsshshsh
Talking about gfriend's mvs, I really love that sunny summer one... Can't explain, just my personal aesthetics maybe. But apple is good also. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for reacting. Gfriend has their own theory n sound from the beginning of their debut.. This is their new era, the song is about the temptation from apple n what happen after they ate the apple. Just an advice, if u somehow want to know their theory just watch their mv continously to get the theory from : Glass Bead, Me gustas tu, Rough, Navillera, Fingertip, Love whisper, Summer rain, Time for the moon night, Sunny summer, Sunrise, Fever, A tale of glass bead: previous story, crossroads, A Tale of glass bead:Butterfly effect. to get the theory. Thanks again.
i would recommend gfriend's "time for the moon night" and "Crossroad" as good mv production, cuz a lot of producers said that the production was really expensive,i hope youll make that one too,i love how you critic the MV a lot
The extra pull out when she's entering that room adds impact to the big drum hit happening at the same time. I'm guessing they shot the pull out, then when they were editing they just realized the slow pull out didn't have the impact they wanted (or perhaps it wasn't intended to land right on that big beat, so they decided to accentuate the beat with that punchy cut)
thanks for reacting their mv. it;s ok if u don't understand the story behind their mv. bcs even we ( their fans ) sometimes need a time to understood the story ^^
You cant understand the storyline because it connection with their all previous mv. From last comeback the album called labyrinth and the title track is crossroad. Means the girl stand at crossroad to make a choice. Now the new album called Song of the siren and title track is apple. Means the girl has make choice but they temptation by apple tree. Usually their storyline has blue butterfly, glass bead, diary, glitter shoe, airplane paper, mirror, diamond, bear, backpack and a lake. Actually until now GFRIEND and source music staff just give raw hint about GFRIEND universe storyline. So, many theories we figure out but not know which one is correct.
The G in Gfriend is actually Girl so your first guess was right :) you might also want to check out crossroads its shot as more like a short story rather than a mv
This was really interesting, I thought your point about the shot where the doors close and open onto a new scene was very valid and made sense I didn't notice it until now tho lol If you're still looking for recommendations I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on GWSN's Pinky Star (Run)! They often work in quite closed settings which I think is really interesting
I've watched some of your vids and I would say you should definitely checks out gfriend's older MVs because they were shot in real places and I heard you say that you like those
Paul, I don't know if you can read Hangul or know much Korean, but the group's name in Korean is Yeoja Chingu, which is literally Girl Friend. As is often the case with Kpop groups, they use Roman alphabet acronyms that actually trace back to Hangul characters or Konglish and other foreign origin portmanteus of various sorts. It's actually a pretty good marketing strategy as it likely helps a lot with international branding by having the group's name legible in the Roman alphabet even if it is often mispronounced or a bit confusing (Looking at you Yeoja Aideul, (G)I-DLE...lol). Group naming in Korea seems to be taken as seriously as naming one's children is taken there (Which is very serious business). There are likely few cases of "Well we all went out for chimaek one night, got plastered, and while at the noraebang thought {Insert Group Name Here} sounded pretty bitchin'."
Since you're still into the girlgroups, i recommend you to also explore boygroups, expecially Seventeen. Seventeen - Fallin' Flower is one of the most legendary M/V. I wonder how your thought is toward the video.
