Hi
19:31 that 10% bonus goes only to transport planes
The algorithm has blessed me with early upload
Please note that Range Focus and Agility Focus are NOT mutually exclusive! You *CAN* get both MIOs unlocked for Japan. Granted they're behind some 70 day focuses (so a total of 140 days to get both), but it is something to consider
Edit:
The first bonus you moused over for Aichi; that +10% bonus (Extra Cargo Doors at 19:34) is for Transport Planes *only* Unless you're doing paratroopers and/or building a lot of transport planes, point/bonus means nothing.
Also, the issue with Aichi, which does offer some great bonuses, but the vast majority of them apply to Medium airframes. Mitsubishi (agility) does offer some Range modifiers and bonuses for any/all Small planes
I want you to play Japan with historical planes now. I could see this unholy cas/fighter plane design setup work in singleplayer, but I refuse to accept it. As someone who rushes plane tech and has about 8 different planes in production as an Operational Integrity Japan, it hurts my soul to see this.
All jokes aside, you kind of slept on the power of the dive brakes. I know they dont contribute to dogfights but they give a lot of air defense and naval targeting. Early aerial torpedoes have a worse naval targeting stat, which makes dive bombers good. In real life, the D3A 'val' Carrier Dive Bomber sunk the most allied ships out of all the Japanese planes throughout the war.
Also, as a Japan player, you want to produce equipment that works in China and can be used against the allies. A 1 air defense fighter bomber can not...
Japan starts with a basic airframe torpedo bomber, so there is no need to create a new design. This bomber has a torpedo and a bomb lock. This type of plane is very useful as it can be used in China and later against the allies. It can earn veterancy through bombing and use it against ships on carriers.
Personaly, I wouldnt want to switch a plane's mission capabilities, because it would mess with reinforcements and veterancy.
Japan also never researches carrier fighter 3 and single engine 3 because those techs unlock with the 'Zero' focus. The range bonuses from the Aichi MIO are absolutely amazing. So dont waste an upgrade point on Transport plane production cost :)
The RP soul and the min-max soul are 2 different creatures
I am interested in all the scenarios you mentioned at the end. What I would like to see more is comparing heavy fighters vs ranged small airframes and other medium airframe designs.
If you go agi focus you can get the zero focus which gives you a couple of free techs (iirc imp. carrier chassis, cannons and engine III)
"If you can keep up the production than the allies and have more within these region you will battering them in the combat anyway even if they have better stats than you."
there is depth in this statement that skim the details, since dave create 1940 CAS with MAX range possible, this CAS WILL have better stats in the region, because of the malus of the aircraft cannot cover the entire region.
No matter how good your plane is, it's useless if they got >50% malus because of lacking in range to cover the entire air region, this is very important stats if you play as japan since Southeast Asia, Pacific and East Asia have MASSIVE air region but only 1-2 province that have an airfield
yup thats why fuel tanks are pretty much the best thing to get
I would like to see more Spaghetti planes, myself.
Weird option one can have after conquering Indonesia/Malaysia OR after building lots of chemical plants is to take both non-strategic materials usage AND self sealing fuel tanks as mean of trading rubber that you can scale up for aluminium that you can't. However that's a weird option that costs 1 extra weight and basically means taking one slot just to fix the issue you yourself caused. No idea how it would have worked irl as while japanese planes were infamous for burning down due to extra fuel tanks and no self sealing, british Mosquito was famous for being wooden and okay with that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
0:47
It doesn't cost less as same decision robs you of military production efficiency so it roughly costs the same at best because all other equipment gets a malus for it.
The video can probably be titled "Japan should have just mass produced P-47"
I was playing around with Germany and MIOs yesterday, and I am wondering how effective a heavy fighter is under the new system. I had a basic medium aircraft when not on ground support wielding like a 42 agility. Love to see a revisit.
Who would do this and why?☠️☠️☠️
It's only good if you fighting in coastal/island areas with barely any access to airports, which is why I guess he picked Japan of all countries for this. Personally, I have been a medium bomber guy when it comes to CAS/ground support for over a month. They have better stats for ground attack and you can fit more of them in any individual battle.
USA Strategic Bombers please!
By the way, great video. Dave, you've been teaching and entertaining for years
I thought CAS Air Atrack was bugged, and that they didnt attack enemy fighters back? Did they fix it?
im quite curious about this as well. I play on 1.12 still mostly, where carrier fighters do literally nothing. Was it patched?
Dual jet engines might have been interesting to look at.
Great video
Great video! I think air combined with special forces are very powerful. I have been playing minor nations in Kaiserreich and it is addictive. Papal States forming Italy
such a great idea i will try that
Dave the master explainator. Most excellent ❤
focus "Zero" => CAS 1940 in 1937
it gives you 1x engines 3 tech as well
what about the Zero? Can you cover it someday too?
i had a thought
the fact that you can play as axis powers but have to assume that by 45 you are just mopping up is a sign on how bad the AI is
if they AI was stronger the designs would be more about exploiting early dominance and managing a later struggle for survival
I'd like to see your approach to an airforce for minor nations like Uruguay, Siam, Maybe even Portugal.
Another video where Dave takes me to school. I’ve never had guns on my CAS always kept them separate from fighters only
I don't even really build planes as Japan at the start. Still defeat China by late 1938. So yeah this is A way to go but you can focus differently. Also I would prefer dive brakes over the defense turret as has less down side and gives same/more air defense and the better targeting. Off the top of my head. I generally prioritize the military early so going carrier CAS is not really ideal. Instead once have the agility or range MIO I make a pure fighter and a fighter that starts with a gun and then bombs. Works well.
Italy Naval Bombers please. Also great video 👍
This would be fun.
I cannot understand for the life of me why this dude insists upon putting machine guns on CAS for the air attack. IT'S A BOMBER, IT DOESN'T NEED TO DOGFIGHT! That is what your fighters are for! What you should be doing is stacking as much ground/naval attack as possible, no air attack! (air defense is important though). And then build a fighter which can gain air superiority and escort your CAS.
To fight back. Without air attack it can't contest air superiority and reduce their numbers even on CAS missions
Agreed. Keep dogfoghting to the fighters and preserve ground attack/CAS for the bombers. Also for bombers I that sort of CAS that Dave is advocating for should be used solely for fighting Britain, Australia, the USA, the Dutch, and the Raj in the Indo-Pacific. For China and the USSR build fighters and medium bombers.
To preserve the planes and manpower you put into them? I personally go for defensive turrets, but that's because I lean towards Medium Bombers. If you're playing a rather limited nation, like one of the warlords, machine guns on CAS is hugely helpful
@@FeedbackIRL bro if you can't win the air war with dedicated fighters, you wont with multirole cas...
@@FeedbackIRL but the fighters are already doing that, so why should the CAS sacrifice some of its ground attack for air attack when the fighters are shooting done all of the enemy planes?! why would you have a good fighter and a fighter-bomber that's only mediocre at everything, when you could build a fighter that is good at fighting, and a bomber that is good at bombing. Like it's the same reason why you would have one division to fill out the front line with infantry, and another for offensives with tanks. You don't build one division that is ok at defense and ok at attacking. Yes, you could try and build a fighter bomber that does everything, but this isn't what you are doing because you are still making better fighters that focus solely on dogfighting. So this makes no sense!
How good is this against a carrier group?
Aren't Drop Tanks often better than Extra Fuel Tanks...?
If you're getting shredded in the air, sometimes, but otherwise no. They weigh more and offer half the extra range. Only benefit is not getting the -2 Air Defense penalty.
@@nathanstruble2177 The range improvements are the same sometimes, I think.
Am I the only one going for medium airframes in single player?
The top right production cost reduction for the MIO is only for transport planes. If I remember correctly if you look deeper into that MIO it is not as good as you would think as a lot only applies to specific plain types like Medium and transport etc.
Play USSR
SHould have taken the Origami Planes Focus
