    KUMARI (1980)
    For Piano Solo
Composed at Pearl Beach in 1980, Kumari is a musical contemplation object dedicated to the memory of Donald Peart, Foundation Professor of Music at The University of Sydney. Anthony Fogg gave the first performance at a New Audience concert in Melbourne in April 1981. The work is in two parts, related only by their quiet intensity and the manner in which their respective cellular material is subjected to a process of varied repetition and accretive growth. Kumari is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘pure, untainted by the world’.
