That looks like a fun place to run the SRR. Sandy dunes are even better. Don't give up on the AVC just yet. As others have mentioned, just dial it back until the front end stops wobbling. Also, make sure the truck is completely flat on the ground and level when you turn the truck on. The AVC sets its reference points when you first turn it on.
The back wheel would be coming off due to the play between the hub and wheel, once it gets a bit loose, the rotation will merrily spin the nut off regardless of how tight it was, due to the direction of rotation. As some others have stated, a bit of medium hold loctite is the go 👍
Les Probett I don’t have this car mate. To be fair I do have to udr and taking off all preload did help it a bit. Still a big time roller though on the turns. Can’t imagine handles like a dream is quite accurate.... with this car😜
@@RCmaxxUK Maybe like a dream was the wrong wording but compared with the udr the rock rey handles far much better now I've lowered the suspension. Second time doggos have crashed a video lol. This makes me miss my Yeti and wish I got the Yeti XL. With these solid rear axle machines (my favorite class) the rear suspension setup causes them to mule kick consistently and if you look up 1:1 rock bouncer videos you'll see why. And the best way to counteract it when making decent sized jumps is to REALLY pin the throttle, and they fly level. You can take turns at speed or with throttle but you can only really do it on gravel or low traction surfaces like the BMX track. With the flex they have, it plays against the cornering and will completely shift the body weight in the opposite direction of the turn. Sway bars help a bit, but unless you're running slicks you can't take turns on grass/mud at speed. Those tires that come with it would be your best bet on the BMX track because they are meant to grip rocks and steep terrain like a crawler. They will fold on themselves if you take off the throttle while turning but as long as you spin them they perform magically.
Thanks for stopping by my live (RC Talk "Happy fathers day") Stream last night, I appreciate your support. The Losi Super Rock Rey is a blast thanks for posting. 👍
What a beautiful truck. If I had the money... Why does a fast truck like this have a solid rear axle? I would have thought that full independant suspension drives better?
Have the smaller baja rey and i have to pin it off a jump or add 8oz maybe 12 for your to stop the donky kick.... also try using nylon locking wheel nuts
Hey Vas, enjoyed the video !! Try turning the AVC to 1/2 setting . That might help to reduce the traction rolling and stop the wobbling that results at full AVC on solid axle trucks .
Hey Vas, you're running in the same issue I had with my Savage once I went to a 3500W rated motor on 6s. It's the torque from the motor ripping on 8s here backing the wheel nuts off. You need to basically get the axles dripping with thread locker, as well as put down a Herculean amount of force on the wheel nuts. Either that, or make the jump up either 23mm or 24mm wheels and adapters.
The wheel nuts probably come off because the hub carrier has no support so when your turning hard the wheels put stress on the rim which cause the nuts to loosen. Locktight will definitely work. Good vid, gotta go rougher terrain to really make this thing shine for the money
Second set of rear shocks without springs... That should solve a lot of the rollovers, donkey kicks and nose down landings... Totally did it for the sbr for me... Not sure why more people don't do it... Simple install in minutes...
Thing is pretty gnarly. Took that uneven terrain very well. Sorry about the wheel. Thanks as always for showing us these cars as they come out. Love your reviews. Well done! Cheers
Would the avc work better for lose train ?? Before you change it can u show a it on sand or powdery dirt???!!!!! Great video awesome production as always! Thanks 🙏
lol at the wheels falling off... My mates Axial Yeti XL Monster Buggy that was bought from Box Hill Metro Hobbies did that until some Loctite was applied to it.. There is a pretty cool BMX track without any fences to crash into in Malahang Reserve Heidelberg West, Victoria. That you could try..
Cool, nice video, good to see this car we're it's meant to run.ya I haven't got my two AVC receivers to work like they should. Fun to see a new place, thank you again for all the great video s.
Nice change of pace Vas! Bummer on the wheel falling off and the dog poo on the car 😥 I also noticed full AVC makes a weird wobble. The DX5C will give you full AVC control and should make it better 😃 I really like my SBR doing exactly what you are doing. Open field run! The size and speed are just different than a 1/8 scale
It would probably drift when you turn vs flipping if you were on dirt. Does the gyro need to be calibrated? Wondering if the goofy AVC you showed isn't working because of that or if the servo is too weak/slow.
There is something up with ur avc. My sbr and 5ive-t do great on avc on the very rare occasion that I use it. I had a similar issue on my losi scbe and I rebound the controller. Worked perfect after that.
I'll be binding my DX5C to this receiver and will see how it goes then. I'll also be able to do finer adjustments to AVC and I should be able to fix it.
I prefer to drive my Notorious on this type surface because it bounces and goes wild. For jumping, I have the Talion and Kraton. Sometimes the Typhon when I don't have GRPs on it.
Why did you swap out the stock wheels, it is not a fair test, it performs well on the stock tyres has more ground clearance. The AVC is not supposed to be wound right up, it says so in the instructions it tells you turn it back if it glitch's You just turn it to around 50 to 60%, please read about the AVC you are giving it a bad rep saying it does not work. I use it in all my 5th gas vehicles, at around 30 to 50% get rid of the extenders it drifts better on stock wheel base and tyres. I have been using it since it first came out, it is particularly good with my two HPI Baja's being two wheel drive, also good in my Krakens and Dragon Hammer but I rarely use it in my LOSI 5ive-T and DBXL. I use the TSM in my UDR but it is not as good as the Spektrum AVC system, I have used AVC in my UDR but swapped back as I use the RTR transmitter for the Blue tooth and the telemetry as with the Spektrum you can not run both telemetry and AVC unless you have the Spektrum DX6Pro, but can with the TRAXXAS set up. So please read up on the AVC it is adjustable for a reason otherwise it would just be used on a two position switch on or off, it is variable depending on preference and terrain conditions, go play dialing it up and down.
Excellent point. I have mine disabled (not turned down) because I jump mine at BMX track. But when I run it I dial it in by adjusting the sensitivity like you suggest. It makes the truck handle like a dream on loose dirt. I'm going to re-enable it on mine. I also run the stock tires.
Yes, you can do that. You need the same brand, same mAh, same C rating and preferably the same age as well. Cells do not matter when pairing in series. Essentially, you are making a 8S battery and the ESC will read it as such. The ESC does not know if you have 2 x 4S, 6S + 2S. 5S + 3S or 7S + 1S batteries connected, it only reads voltage. So as long as the cells match, it doesn't matter how you make up 8S. ;)
