I've had this RC for almost a year now, and after a couple upgrades, it is one of my more durable RCs, even considering it's size and weight. I installed a front aluminum diff case, aluminum bell crank, and a 70KG servo. Yes, that isn't a typo, 70 KG. Other upgrades, body protection rather, is T-Bone racing front and rear bumpers, front shock shields, and a belly skidplate. Since these updates/upgrades, I've have very few mechanical problems. Last breakage was I broke a rod end on the upper rear links. Before that I smacked into a rock the size of the truck and broke an a-arm. This thing does mutilate tires and should keep extras on hand. I've got 2 sets, plus a few from when I replaced 2 because 1 blew out. I replace two at a time because it will spin the tire that's bald and make it even harder to drive on full power on 8s.
I love this thing and also want to mention. Steering bellcrank and servo saver breaks fast. Those you mentioned and the servo savor all have broke on my truck. The shock tower 3 times. Hi I really want to get one of these but there’s videos on UA-cam where guys are driving them for quite a bit in the gear strip out after a couple uses. My local town and Hobby doesn’t even keep them in stock.
Should come with a metal cross brace from the factory for the price. It's not a bad price for what you get, but still, that's just ridiculous. I'd just assume pay $400 less and get a DHK Zombie or Optimus XL 1/8th scale. They have more metal and can bash a lot harder without breaking components.
I put those rock rey type tires on my xmaxx. Now the xmaxx does rock rey better than rock rey. Plus Xmaxx is wayyyyyy more durable. With the skinnier tires, the xmaxx chews up grass, gravel a lot more as it accelerates up to speed. The xmaxx also jumps balanced, it doesn't nose dive like this thing.

just got one of these ordered and excited to check it out can you please give me the battery specs that i need to purchase. I will be looking at buying the 8S
It fits a variety of 4S LiPo batteries. We used these big 6400 120C packs: ua-cam.com/play/PLNPmj_TC-HIQ7vKWg48SC2bzke3LJoryU.html But those are pretty pricey. These Gens Ace packs would also be great: www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ace-4s-soft-case-100c-lipo-battery-14.8v-6000mah-ga-b1137/p1048144 These Onyx packs are lower specs but would work too: www.amainhobbies.com/onyx-4s-40c-lipo-battery-w-ec5-led-14.8v-4000mah-onxp40004s40/p984876 Hope that helps Brian. -Brett

We use a lot of different cars, and many times they have different plug or connector requirements. One of the packs that solve this are the Venom packs with the UNI 2.0 connector adapters. Makes life a lot easier! They're usually a lower C rating so the power isn't the best, but they are so convenient that they're great for a grab and go situation, or general bashing. We also use some Gens Ace packs sometime because they have larger 6S packs for great prices and power is decent. And lastly are ProTek 100C or 120C for maximum power/speed. These are more expensive but the "punch" out of them is awesome. Some of them only have bullet connectors, so you need to solder up your own leads sometimes; it's a bit more of a hassle, but if you want that extra power, well worth it. Here's one of the Venom packs with the UNI 2.0 connector adapters; fits 5 different connector types: www.amainhobbies.com/venom-power-2s-30c-hard-case-lipo-battery-w-uni-2.0-connector-7.4v-5000mah-vnr15149/p449627 And then here is a ProTek with bullets (you supply the connector if you don't use bullets): www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-120c-low-ir-sigraphene-hv-lcg-lipo-battery-7.6v-6300mah-ptk-5115-20/p1060483 -Brett
I broke the right side lower suspension arm exactly like you did. I ran into a rock as well and I hear a loud bang as I hit it. First major repair after a month of heavy use. Still waiting for the aluminum suspension arms to arrive so I can get it back in action. Also tossing in a Spektrum S9020 1/5 scale servo while I’m at it. Last, about how long was the battery life out of that 8s set up you were using? Great vid.
Right! It's almost like the tire had no where to go but wedge into that rock and tear the arm back. We don't blame the car for that. Happy to hear the arm was your major repair after a month of bashing. When we went out bashing the batteries lasted somewhere around 30 minutes, but that is half driving and half filming. So in an all-out run, 10-15 minutes would probably be our times, but unfortunately i don't have specific times. Have you already swapped out your servo? I'm interested to hear how that works out. -Brett

Chris Ricotta I’ve had the XMaxx since 6s release, upgraded to 8s, many more aftermarket upgrades. I love it. Probably my favorite, the udr is a close 2nd favorite,
It's a great buggy. It's much more oriented for rough terrain and captures that particular look and detail. The DBXLE 2.0 is much more stretched and flat, great for smoother terrain or whoops, but I wouldn't drive it aggressively through rocks like you can on the SRR. The hinged body and chassis layout of the DBXLE 2.0 is a lot more convenient. But the looks and scale details aren't quite as nice as the SRR. It's a give and take. They're both great vehicles, designed for different applications and terrain. -Brett
No. The X-Maxx sits high off the ground and is designed to do wheelies and hit big jumps; it's designed for a different application than these two buggies. The real question here is; how do you want to use the buggy? And what terrain type do you have to drive in? You'll be much better off if you get the vehicle that will match how you drive. Do you want to hit big jumps, or do you want speed and high performance? Will you be driving on mostly smooth fast terrain, or do you have rough and slower, uneven terrain? You're asking some great questions. I'm glad you're doing your research before making a purchase! -Brett
They're very different vehicles with different looks, chassis designs and performance characteristics. I will say the DBXLE 2.0 is easier to work on and access all the different areas and components and would probably be my personal choice. But your choice should depend on what styling you prefer and what type of driving you will do more of. -Brett
You could take it to the skatepark, but don't drive it too hard there; skateparks are fun but r/c cars aren't built to take that type of punishment. As for the steering issue, we haven't heard of that, and our SRR hasn't had that issue. -Brett
@@96d96 Yeah, the Notorious is a great basher and you can probably push the Notorious a little harder than the SRR. The Kraton 6S is also great. The Big Rock 3S is another great option, and a lot less expensive. This is it: www.amainhobbies.com/arrma-big-rock-4x4-v3-3s-blx-1-10-rtr-brushless-monster-truck-black-ara4312v3/p1250113 -Brett
Hi Michael, it's about $799, but not recommended for youth, or new users. We carry more beginner friendly R/C's if you'd like some recommendations. -Brett
Dude this truck weighs over 20 lbs, try running 3s and compensate with a higher kv motor to hit 50 with this truck and see what happens. Keep the voltage the same while quadrupling the weight, you will pop your esc in no time.
Our SRR has a nasty Torque Twist too from day one, but it seems to be the nature of the beast. If you're having a more than normal twisting experience, I would recommend ensuring the aluminum upper and lower chassis plates are not bent or twisted. If they are, they will need to be replaced. Also look for any other bent parts like rods, shock shafts and hinge pin holders. I would also remove the shocks and tires and ensure the front suspension arms have no resistance in their motion - they should move freely. Repeat for the rear end. Everything look ok at this point? -Brett
Solid rear axle + locked rear diff (I think, it's locked on the RR). Add in a high output brushless system and torque steer will always be present. Not many cars on the market are as fast as this one with the SRA. Adjust the AVC to help with torque twist, launch easier, or even consider spacing the wheels out more
Both vehicles contain the same amount of 8S power, but their size and weight specifications give each their own individual character. Neither is more powerful than the other, they're just very different styles of vehicles. The X-Maxx is a high-rolling monster truck, and the Super Rock Rey is a low-sitting rock buggy. They're very different my friend, but both great fun. -Brett
I ran into one yesterday on a "one day only" sale for $85. Mind whirling of scams, Chinese clones, and receiving a 1:16, 5.5 mph, 4 wheel drive turd, I moved on. Couldn't get it outta my head, so later checked out Losi web site. After seeing their listed price, contacted customer service to see WTH. Was informed that "factory rejects" do get allocated to select distributes for demos, trade shows, flea markets, etc. - Who knows what these distributors actually do with them. Nether Losi nor Horizon will admit, claim, endorse, or support these "rejects". Basically - "buy at your own risk, but if you do order one, and it turns out to be something different - Please inform us". I shopped around and found one for $63! I TOOK THAT CHANCE. (actually, paid with PayPal. So, they took that chance). After shipping and all, came to $68 - with 2, 3s batteries, and charger. UNBELIEVABLE! . . . . And I WONT believe it - till it shows up in 3 more days. . . .Fingers, toes, everything, crossed till then. Oh - no Raceline available, only baja designs.
Sure, but probably not in the Truggy class. You probably need a group of guys who all own the Super Rock Rey for a good race. This buggy is probably twice the size of a 1/8 truggy, but with half the track performance. -Brett

good luck changing that pinion it took me two days @@AMain_Hobbies
hi :) do you think there is enough part support around for this rc? as im interested into getting one but am not sure if there is enough website to get spare parts for maintenance :) thank you
Awesome video thanks for an honest review... were you guys bashing at La Grange, CA?
Hey Clay. We did most bashing at Upper Bidwell Park in Chico, Ca., and some more at the Clay Pit SVRA Park in Oroville, Ca.
-Brett
AMain Hobbies looks so similar... at least we’re still in the Cali region
Ok so now I’m torn. Super Rock Rey or Xmaxx?
So did they get the gears to stop stripping ????
paulg35c I’ve only seen one person do that in a super Baja Rey
Not sure paulg. I haven't heard of anyone stripping gears and we didn't have any gear issues. Everything in that front seemed good.
-Brett
Hi I really want to get one of these but there’s videos on UA-cam where guys are driving them for quite a bit in the gear strip out after a couple uses. My local town and Hobby doesn’t even keep them in stock.
Great review👍
Does it come with zip ties.and duck tape?
That sounds awesome Sheldon. Can I see, do you have a picture?
-Brett
I used the wheels and wheel nut from the end of this video.
Great show just two guestions please
What version are you using V1 or V2? Do you know the difference from V1 to V2?
I believe the current vehicles just have Spektrum electronics where the originals (that we have) do not.
-Brett
Awesome video review my friend i love this rig absolutely bad ass i was wondering what weight diff oil you guys use in F/C/R that would be much appreciate thanks for sharing happy bashing bud👍👍🤙😎🤪😜😝🙈🙉🙊👊✌
Hello 12R1. Thank you for watching and leaving us feedback. For the differential fluid, we used the Super Rock Rey with the factory fluids which are 30K Front, 50K Center and 30K Rear. Thanks for watching!
-Brett
just got one of these ordered and excited to check it out
can you please give me the battery specs that i need to purchase. I will be looking at buying the 8S
It fits a variety of 4S LiPo batteries. We used these big 6400 120C packs: ua-cam.com/play/PLNPmj_TC-HIQ7vKWg48SC2bzke3LJoryU.html
But those are pretty pricey. These Gens Ace packs would also be great: www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ace-4s-soft-case-100c-lipo-battery-14.8v-6000mah-ga-b1137/p1048144
These Onyx packs are lower specs but would work too: www.amainhobbies.com/onyx-4s-40c-lipo-battery-w-ec5-led-14.8v-4000mah-onxp40004s40/p984876
Hope that helps Brian.

I have one and definitely not a basher
For a second I thought the title said 1/16 8S losi LoL that would have been crazy
That would be crazy! Thanks for the idea.
-Brett
AMain Hobbies 👍 thumbs up Brett!
So that cross brace is weaker than a cable tie 🤔
Did we mention it was a Carbon filled Fiberglass, Titanium backed, Magnesium injected, Triple Carbide 7075-T6, Multi-Vitamin zip tie?
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies no you didn't. I bet those are expensive 😂
Hey can you give me a part# for those batteries please.
I believe these were the 4S packs we used: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-4s-120c-low-ir-sigraphene-hv-lipo-battery-15.2v-6500mah-ptk-5106-22/p1370765
You could get away with something less expensive though like these: www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ace-gtech-smart-4s-lipo-battery-60c-5300mah-14.8v-gea534s60dgt/p1527334
-Brett
What lipos do you guys generally use, not specifically this car, just whenever you drive what would you prefer?
Here's one of the Venom packs with the UNI 2.0 connector adapters; fits 5 different connector types: www.amainhobbies.com/venom-power-2s-30c-hard-case-lipo-battery-w-uni-2.0-connector-7.4v-5000mah-vnr15149/p449627
And then here is a ProTek with bullets (you supply the connector if you don't use bullets): www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-120c-low-ir-sigraphene-hv-lcg-lipo-battery-7.6v-6300mah-ptk-5115-20/p1060483

Great video. Should I buy traxx xmass 8s or this losi buggy?????? Thx
Hi Michael. Those are both great options to choose from. What model looks better to you?
-Brett
Losi !!!
They are two totally different trucks, the xmaxx is a modular tub chassis, this is a solid rear axle Rock racer.
-Brett
Where can I find the best batteries and charger . I'm having issues with that
Yeah, the battery compartment in the SRR is a tight spot, but two of these Gens 4S LiPo's should work great: www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ace-4s-soft-case-100c-lipo-battery-14.8v-6000mah-gea60004s10e5/p1048144
For charging, this charger can charge two batteries at once (but it's not the fastest): www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-prodigy-66-duo-ac-dc-lihv-lipo-battery-balance-charger-6s-6a-50w-ptk-8523/p696354
This charger is much more powerful and faster, but you pay for it: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-prodigy-625-duo-touch-ac-lihv-lipo-ac-dc-battery-charger-ptk-8519/p578442
Hope this helps Jose!

@@AMain_Hobbies I really appreciate the info. Got my batteries and charger!! Thanks so much!
I would like to know which are the battery kit I have to buy it for this monster!!! I don't know exactly what to but. Talking about the battery, conector charger. What do I need? Thanks
This is a direct fit for that buggy: www.amainhobbies.com/spektrum-rc-smart-powerstage-8s-bundle-w-two-4s-smart-lipo-hard-case-batteries-spmxps8/p1148772
But most any 4S LiPo's will fit, but you need two. Be sure the batteries have EC5 connectors to plug into the car though.
Hope that helps.

I was going to buy this or an arrma, I bought the arrma Notorious.
Buy a xmaxx you'll won't regret it . I have been into rc for many year and have had the biggest top brand rc but the xmaxx WOW !!
Chris Ricotta I’ve had the XMaxx since 6s release, upgraded to 8s, many more aftermarket upgrades. I love it. Probably my favorite, the udr is a close 2nd favorite,
Ok a yr later, what do you think about this RC car compared to the DBXLE 2.0 ?
It's a great buggy. It's much more oriented for rough terrain and captures that particular look and detail. The DBXLE 2.0 is much more stretched and flat, great for smoother terrain or whoops, but I wouldn't drive it aggressively through rocks like you can on the SRR. The hinged body and chassis layout of the DBXLE 2.0 is a lot more convenient. But the looks and scale details aren't quite as nice as the SRR. It's a give and take. They're both great vehicles, designed for different applications and terrain.
-Brett
AMain Hobbies ok One more question would you get the X Maxx over both of those buggys ?
-Brett
Great video! What are your thoughts on this compared to the Losi dbxl e?
I'm now in the market for a 1/5 1/6 buggy.
Thanks.
They're very different vehicles with different looks, chassis designs and performance characteristics. I will say the DBXLE 2.0 is easier to work on and access all the different areas and components and would probably be my personal choice. But your choice should depend on what styling you prefer and what type of driving you will do more of.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks for the info, I have some thinking to do.
Can you put a engine sound box in these?
Probably. I think this vehicle has been discontinued though, sadly.

@@AMain_Hobbies awesome looking forward to it brother
Am I the only one or did they sort make it look like a can am x3 turbo RR
do they ship to Hawaii??
What about the xmaxx 8s? Not as powerful?
The X-Maxx is really powerful! But, we have never had it in our studio to make a video on. One day perhaps!
-Brett
Is avc still new? Hhha
Maybe not so new at this point in time; although still a great help in low traction conditions.
-Brett
So technically its an almost ready to run as it doesn't come with lipos or a charger.
Most RTR's do not include LiPo's because of shipping restrictions. There are some RTR's that still include NiMH batteries, but it's rare.
-Brett
I keep hearing people saying the servo and steering just stops and stuff is this reliable could I jump it at a skatepark
You could take it to the skatepark, but don't drive it too hard there; skateparks are fun but r/c cars aren't built to take that type of punishment. As for the steering issue, we haven't heard of that, and our SRR hasn't had that issue.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks but I think I'm going to go with the arrma notorious 6s from aamain fo you think that's s better basher
@@96d96 Yeah, the Notorious is a great basher and you can probably push the Notorious a little harder than the SRR. The Kraton 6S is also great. The Big Rock 3S is another great option, and a lot less expensive. This is it: www.amainhobbies.com/arrma-big-rock-4x4-v3-3s-blx-1-10-rtr-brushless-monster-truck-black-ara4312v3/p1250113

I will get one!!!♥
so, two trucks broke right out the gate and everyone is waiting for aftermarket parts to fix the design and manufacturing failures? [avoid]
how much does it cost i am thinking about buying it for my neice that is 13
Hi Michael, it's about $799, but not recommended for youth, or new users. We carry more beginner friendly R/C's if you'd like some recommendations.
-Brett
50 on 8s? I was hitting 55 with a velenion traxxas on 3s.
Oh yeah? We'll today I spelt "OOOO" in my Cheerios. Beat that.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies is it the gearing, weight or both?
Dude this truck weighs over 20 lbs, try running 3s and compensate with a higher kv motor to hit 50 with this truck and see what happens. Keep the voltage the same while quadrupling the weight, you will pop your esc in no time.
It weighs over twice as much dude... Pretty pointless comparison..
I crashed mine and now I have horrible torque twist, how do I get rid of it?
Adjust the AVC to help with torque twist, launch easier, or even consider spacing the wheels out more
Do we need to change the gear to 18t when using 8s lipo batteries?
It comes geared for 8S use. If you smaller batteries than 8S, then you'll need to change the gearing.
-Brett

Looks Tough 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
more powerful than the x-maxx?
Both vehicles contain the same amount of 8S power, but their size and weight specifications give each their own individual character. Neither is more powerful than the other, they're just very different styles of vehicles. The X-Maxx is a high-rolling monster truck, and the Super Rock Rey is a low-sitting rock buggy. They're very different my friend, but both great fun.

@@AMain_Hobbies YOU ROCk! brett
So im seeing these things all over for 100$ is that seem right?
Maybe you are seeing the Baja Rey? This is the SUPER Baja Rey.

Can you race this thing? Truggy class?
Sure, but probably not in the Truggy class. You probably need a group of guys who all own the Super Rock Rey for a good race. This buggy is probably twice the size of a 1/8 truggy, but with half the track performance.
-Brett
That's weird you got only 54mph with 2 4s batteries.....I know a guy that did 61-62mph out the box-and did 80+ after changing pinion gear.
Maybe the batteries?
-Brett
Is it just me or are Horizon Hobby putting out some very affordable gems lately.
Xmaxx !!
Can you rock crawl with this thing?
Naw, not like a proper crawler. It goes so fast, it's more like rock hopping, rock bashing. Crawlers go slow, this goes fast!!!
