    That''s really an amazing video. The ski descent part is gripping, with a lot of footage not available in other videos about K2. In particular, the immense size of K2 comes through, not just height, but the breadth of the mountain with it's fields and valleys and contours. I've been on ordinary "friendly" mountains, and it is not hard to lose direction and orientation even without having to worry about snow and fog and freezing and low oxygen. I imagine K2 must be huge, even if it were relatively gentle, even slopes. The video gives perspectives on that, and the shots from,, or in, the Bottleneck bring out how steep that section is (many K2 videos showing it from well below, looking up, don't bring that out). Savage!

    Le K2 c'est comme le Cervin dans les Alpes, une haute Montagne très élégante, et agréables à regarder, tellement elles sont belles. 👋🏻😊🖖🏻😁

      Oui je sais ce que vous voulez dire. Le Cervin n'atteint que la moitié de l'altitude du K2, mais il s'agit d'un sommet emblématique des Alpes et en aucun cas facile à gravir. Des compétences techniques d'escalade de haut niveau sont nécessaires pour atteindre le sommet du Cervin. Merci d'avoir regardé et commenté.
      Translation of the reply:
      Yes, I know what you mean. Matterhorn reaches just the half of K2's elevation but it is an iconic peak in the Alps and by no means easy to climb. High-level technical climbing skills are required to reach Matterhorn's summit. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    • @Bongo40
      @Bongo40 2 місяці тому +1

      Mon commentaire parlait de la beauté de ces 2 sommets emblématiques, pas de la technicité, j'ai moi même été alpiniste, il y a quelques années et je connais la difficulté de grimper au Cervin, même avec toutes les câbles et les cordes qui aident, mais à cause de l'altitude notamment.

    At about 7:00 minutes in the narration says that after six says of climbing they are doing a climb leading to the summit from camp four. The video then shows House's Chimney which is, I believe, below camp four and less than six days from advanced base camp.. Camp 4 is just under 8,000 meters, and House's Chimney is, I believe, on the way to camp 2, which is at some 6,700 meters elevation.

      @@davesmith5656 In the video we are climbing together with two teams and they don’t make a direct dash to to the summit, but perform acclimatization rounds including spending the night at camps 2 and 3, then returning back to BC before the final attempt to the peak. I believe first, the explanation of the Abruzzen Spur, followed by the climb including acclimatization might lead to some confusion. As a contrast, Bargiel just needed around 8 hours to reach the summit before starting his ski descent.

      @@nuovonovathegreatoutdoors ---- Congrats on your summit. It's possible that a lot of people watching are familiar with the need for acclimatization, and more. I do not aspire to any two week trek just to get to base camp, let alone risk life and limb, but the videos are engrossing. I don't mean to be negative - a lot of people thrill to watch top athletes. But it's confusing to hear "camp 4" then see the House Chimney clips. At least your video is of K2 and not a mix of Everest and Manaslu and Gasherbrum(s) and Aconcagua and McKinley etc.. I watched a video of a Trango Towers ascent - part way. I couldn't make it past the tent on the vertical. I roll over a lot when I sleep ....

    Skiing down from the summit is crazy.
    Question; does that increase the risk of triggering an avalanche as opposed to climbing down?

    • @nuovonovathegreatoutdoors
      @nuovonovathegreatoutdoors  Місяць тому +1

      @@paulgrey8028 The answer is: It CAN definitely trigger an avalanche, but only in areas with high snow, as it was the case around the summit, where he met other ascending climbers. Further down below, for example around the Messner Traverse, the snow cover above the rocks was not enough for an avalanche.
