Any flat Earthers reading this: That photo of the moon? You can do that yourself. That's within the reach of ordinary people, any time. A couple of questions:
Does it look like a ball of gas, emitting "cold light" or whatever, or a cratered ball of rock that can reflect the sun's light? Which is it closer to?
And you see that face it shows us? We all see that. We all see the same face. The same patterns of craters and shades. No matter where we are on Earth. Would that be possible if it were local? We would all see a different angle would we not? We see the same face, because it is distant to us all, and tidally locked. Do you see which scenario is more plausible? Better matches the observations?
Thirdly, it's orientation will look different to Wolfie, in Perth or anywhere else in Australia, than in does to me in the UK, or anyone in the Northern hemisphere. It's the same face, but upside down. This is because the orientation (it's angle of rotation) is directly related to the latitude on the globe. The geometry of that only works if we are on a sphere. From a flat Earth, how could it possibly ever appear tilted, or upside-down? It simply couldn't. The observations, that you can make yourself, match globe geometry perfectly, and destroy the ideas of the flat Earth cult.
Get out whilst you still have some dignity. There's nothing wrong with having been fooled. It happens to the best of us. But don't let your pride lead you further down this path of ignorance and paranoia. The longer you mire yourself in this delusion, the harder the facepalm will eventually be.

This makes it quite enticing to get a decent telescope setup with a camera. I was given a cheap telescope some years back. It was shaking so badly on its mount that it was hard to look at anything. I did manage to track the ISS in free swivel, which is pretty amazing given that it was tricky to aim at even stationary targets with that 1° FOV. I told you that quick reactions and eye-hand coordination from playing shooters would pay off. ;-) The thing is hard to use now because the plastic tray holding the tripod together broke. With a camera, any tendency to shake won’t be brought out by your own movements. You don’t have to bother keeping your eye in the perfect spot. You can make images brighter, not just larger. You can also store images and share them. There’s something magical about looking at things directly with your own eye, but magic has its limitations, too.

I try not to make a second general post, but I thought of something in the last couple of days comparing the FE cult's teachings and their contrast to reality. This has to do with comparing Polaris to the Sun:
Let's take a look at Polaris first. We know it can only be seen in the Northern Hemisphere. The FE cult can't dispute that and I'm sure their only excuses have been "perspecive" and "ignore the evidence above you". So, take a look at it first from the North Pole in the winter. Its directly above and shines at a certain brightness. Now, take a trip to just north of the Equator and on a clear night at midnight, take a look a Polaris again. Its about the same brightness. Now, according to the FE cult's teachings, the Sun "circles above the flat plain orbiting the north pole and therefore would be directly below Polaris at midnight and has "shrunk due to perspective" so much that its invisible. Now compare the Sun's brightness from a ground observer to Polaris' brightness. Flat Earthers would claim Polaris appears close to the horizon due to perspective just like the Sun (which is invisible due to "being so far away".) So, why would such a bright object as the Sun disappear and Polaris be just as bright at the horizon as it would be directly above an observer?

    • @my2cents75

The flat earth sun is never directly below Polaris on the flat earth. Where did you come up with that?

      @thudthud5423 3 роки тому +1

@@my2cents75 And, now that I've realized you replied to my comment (2 days later), let's take a look at what you said:
      1. *"The flat earth sun is never directly below Polaris on the flat earth."*
So let's look at the FE cult's teachings:
      a. "The Earth is a flat circle. The Sun and Moon 'orbit' around the North Pole remaining above this disk's surface 24/7,"
      b. "Polaris is on the 'dome' directly above the North Pole." So, according to a., this would mean that at midnight, for any observer, the Sun would be directly North (and, due to perspective, too small to see).
Now, as stated in my initial statement, just North of the Equator Polaris is observed to be just above the horizon. A Flat Earther might claim that b. Polaris appears to be so low in the sky because of "perspective".
The fact is, according to the FE cult's teachings, both Polaris and the Sun would both be directly north at midnight with Polaris oriented above the Sun.
      2. *"Where did you come up with that?"* The Flat Earth cult's teachings. Of course, Flat Earth cultists aren't expected to look at and analyze their own cult's model and they definitely aren't expected to compare the FE model against reality.

      3. *"
The sun circles around the flat Earth. Polaris is in the center north"* Simply said, yes, as I stated above that's how the FE cult's model explains things. Let me make your statement a little more detailed though: *"The sun circles around the flat Earth above its surface. Polaris is in the center north located on the 'dome' directly above the North Pole on the Earth's surface."*
The obvious thing is, of course is that the FE cult's model (its teachings) DON'T line up with reality. Polaris disappears as you travel south of the Equator. Celestial rotation observably demonstrates that there are two celestial poles. And, of course, Flat Earthers will defensibly claim "our cult has no model" and yet claiming the Earth is flat and Sun and Moon (small and local) circle above its flat surface is definitely a model.
Here's a video of celestial rotation near the Equator from Ecuador: ua-cam.com/video/ssJ8nohPSmg/v-deo.html (Provided by Timestorm)

Yes there are several ways to do it. At home I can't see the South Celestial Pole so I can't use this feature. A Skywatcher mount has a polar alignment routine for use when you can't see a celestial Pole.
I have used that a few times and it takes multiple repetitions of the process to get very accurate results but seems to work quite well.
Page 38 on this manual explains it.

You will be surprised at the performance of the 50mm guide scope, I use that scope and a sv 305 pro for guiding and a sv 305 for image. On a heq5 eq Mount with a Meade lx85 rs scope . Am only fairly new to Astro photography but it seems to give decent results. What would you suggest for remote scope and mount operation? Been disabled it is crazy hard to sit outside with the scope for hours. Hi Pete, I use Chrome Remote Desktop. I have the scope and laptop outside powered by a camping style Lithium battery. I can then operate it from inside on another PC with the remote software. It actually works great across wifi or the internet. Tonight I updated my computers at home in Sydney from Perth using the same software.
You can run it through the Chrome Browser but if you have the App on both computers it works great.
I was using it for this video. The laptop was running the software and I was screen recording on another computer.

It's amplification of the signal from the sensor; to get a brighter image you either increase gain or increase exposure time. It's equivalent to the ISO setting in a digital camera.

This is giving away how ancient I am, but more than 20 years ago, I was walking through the shopping mall at the World Trade Center in New York City. I went into a store that had a display of telescopes near the entrance. Being pedantic and sarcastic, I called over a sales person and tried my best to explain that someone had set up all the Newtonian telescopes incorrectly. The rears of the tubes were pointed up as if towards the sky, while the eye pieces and fronts were aimed down to the ground. It took quite a bit of explanation to convince the store employee that they were perfectly set up to take pictures of ants instead of stars. “The thin tubes have lenses, while the fat tubes have mirrors, so they work ‘backwards!’”
