    Mason Quinn. I truly appreciate your grasp on the fact that Tommy finds himself in situations be it luck or someone's unluck lol. He's quick on his feet and can adapt to a situation. Alot of people act like Tommy is some all knowing 5d chess player. Yes, he's a great planner but he doesn't know everything. Great reaction

    Freddie doesn't leave Birmingham because he's an idealist, communist and union convenor at the factory; he's trying to improve the lot of the people working there - by getting an increase in their wages after they've been cut, and an improvement in their working conditions. He believes in what he's doing, believes in the cause, and that's why he won't run. He's a nice guy who is doing his best for his community. He's more of a dreamer than a fighter, reading his books and wanting a better future for the working class. France has changed them all - so Freddie knows how to fight and how to use a gun - but I don't think he's a violent man at heart.

    • @18Hongo
      @18Hongo 17 днів тому +15

      The other thing is that at this point, Freddie doesn't know that Tommy agreed to give him up to the police.
      Tommy might be a scary customer, but Freddie has known him since they were kids. As far as he's concerned, Tommy is the only real threat to him: the police might be after him, but he can give them the slip. He doesn't know that Campbell is targeting him, nor that Campbell and Tommy are making deals.

    • @danielgardecki1046

      ...until he heard Tommy has the guns, which is why he asked Tommy about the guns at the canal, before Tommy distracted him.

      No Freddie is just another gang leader only his gang are weak. He wants to use his connection to Tommy to get the communist gang more power. He's using Ada in an attempt to use Tommy. The only thing keeping the idiot alive is Tommy's loyalty to the men he served with. Danny followed orders when he fd up and Tommy was able to keep him safe Freddy keeps disobeying and Tommy's given up trying to save him from himself.

    • @ameliacraiig4193
      @ameliacraiig4193 15 днів тому +4

      Yes. The guys in the review were asking about why Tommy & Freddie are at conflict with each other. I think it's just that; their contrasting ideologies. As you've stated, Freddie is an idealist with Socialist aspirations for his community. Whereas Tommy is a Capitalist.

    Hello gentlemen, I’ve been watching your account for a while, but I’ve not made any comments previously. I’ve been watching a lot of different reaction channels. But by far yours is the most superior.
    You don’t over-talk the scenes too much, and what you do say fits. With the editing, you select the core scenes as much as possible.
    And your after reviews are always really thoughtful, sometimes you grab at different things than I personally see, but not one of you falls down on providing some interpretive input. Basically, double high-fives all around for your channel and your production.
    It’s so fun to watch, as if I’m watching with friends. It’s also terribly difficult to wait for your next episodes on programs or movies that I really like - and I know you get that comment a lot.
    So cheers, and thanks for all the fish!

    I love the fact that the boys didn't have weapons underground in the tunnels in Flanders/France. This was a real problem in WWI, they just didn't have enough weaponry to go around, so in most trenches there were several men who didn't have guns, or didn't have ammunition. So if the enemy came around the corner with a gun, that's it. Game over. If trench foot doesn't get you first.

  • @Escapee5931
    @Escapee5931 17 днів тому +11

    The tunneling companies in WW1 were used to dig tunnels under the German trenches, which were then filled with explosives. The explosive were set off to co-ordinate with an attack on the surface. The Germans dug counter-mines to intercept the British tunnels. Underground fights would ensue, using bayonets and improvised weapons (such as that spiked mace they showed when they were getting ready for Cheltenham) .
    The biggest use of tunnels was at the Battle of Messines Ridge in 1917, when 454 tons of explosives split between 19 tunnels were set off. Before the attack, the Commander in Chief said "Gentlemen, we may not make history tomorrow, but we shall certainly change geography!"

    @Anino_Makata 17 днів тому +1

    40:55 On the note of limited weaponry in the tunnels, they couldn't carry much simply because the excavations were just too narrow to bring anything large with you. Submachine guns like the MP-18 and the Thompson came very late into the war, shotguns like the famed M1887 Trench Shotgun were not as commonplace in the battlefield as you'd think (carried mostly by the Americans and not the Brits), and of course the five-foot long rifles that were standard across most European militaries were out of the question.
    The most firepower you could carry into a tunnel that won't get in the way of your job of claykicking was an officer's pistol, but this was back in the time where sidearms weren't standardized and usually were personal pistols that officers would buy for themselves (Winston Churchill himself famously carried a German C96 Mauser in WW1, and Gen. Patton carried his personal Colt Single Action Army in WW2). Tommy was the Sgt. Major and highest ranking officer in the tunnel that night, but perhaps didn't have his Webley or any ammo for it on him.
    Outside of a pistol, the most common implements used in such confined spaces to kill any moles that happen to dig your way were knives or bayonets and whatever you had on hand to dig. Spades, hand picks, wood for shoring up the ceiling, or loose rocks that you had dug out. And it was brutal.
    It was Freddie who got shot, and Danny took that stab. Tommy was nearly choked out. Danny had it worse than the other two.

      I suspect you'd lose that money...
      Everyone has seen *The Game* (1997).
      These are Americans, and you're recommending a popular American film.
      An even safer bet would be...
      *Rita, Sue and Bob Too* (1987).
      One of the most "offensive" and funniest films of all time, filmed in *Bradford* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film* just like *Peaky Blinders.*
      I've recommended it countless times, to 100s of reactors, yet no-one has bothered reacting to it, as...
      They mainly care about British productions they incorrectly assume are popular, based on what *award ceremony judges* have said, what *critics* have said, and what *people on the internet* have said, rather than what the *viewing figures* actually say.
      My British film suggestions are ignored, just like my British TV drama suggestions, British TV sitcom suggestions, British TV sketch show suggestions, British panel show suggestions, British TV stand-up suggestions, along with British rapper suggestions mainly in the Bassline genre.
      All reactors watch the same British things again and again, while the stuff British people are actually watching gets ignored online.
