I acquired this plane a couple weeks ago. I’m using Spektrum 4S 3200 G2, with CG at forward limit, and it flies like it’s on rails. I took the Vector out, put in a Spektrum AR637T, and tuned AS3X and set up SAFE. Tremendous performance with that combo. My only complaint is the landing gear and wheels. The wire isn’t spring steel, and even a moderately hard landing will bend it. The wheels are hard too; I’ll likely replace them with something softer. If you want to remove the wheel pants, be aware you’ll need collars for the wheels; the pant has that function now. Lastly - inverted performance? Hands off; no downward elevator required for level flight. Love it.
This is a really good looking plane and has been on my list for awhile but I have other larger purchases coming up so it will have to remain on my list for awhile longer. The coupon is good for $30 off ,so $280 is a really good price for this plane in my opinion.
LOVED the little dolphin first take off!! Did I miss your "CRAZY take the PROP OFF" stunt with this AWESOME Arrows?! Thanks Saylors for being able to fulfill my ALMOST daily entertainment!! 💟👍😘
They put nice quality materials into this one to compete with some other "Extra" type 3D planes. So its price is a little high for an Arrows, but its worth it. I'm glad you guys are working with HZ still, Dan is a great guy. Arrows had a great line of planes.
Thanks Sno, that means a lot. And yeah Dan is great and very knowledgeable of our hobby! Also, we appreciate you having our back with old man Jenkins “Bob” LoL!! 😂👍😎⚓️
Love y'alls channel glad you said that about servos. I get into enough arguments over metal vs plastic. If you want to go the cheap route and buy plastic. If you're on a budget then do that. Also Nate cool sweat shirt!
Finally Nate...He's using expo..😂.....good on you bud. I've been asking you to start using expo...awesome bro...nice to see you and Abby. I hope the family is doing well. God Bless you both.
Oh hell yeah! Especially if you don't want to be changing rates all the time, and with those big control surfaces I'd be up around 30 to even maybe 40% on this too, especially that ginormous elevator. There's almost no horizontal stabilizer, about 90% of that is all moving elevator. This model is my idea of ideal, both in configuration and size, even a pretty reasonable price too.
I have had an eye for this plane for a while. Not for its capabilities but just for its appearance. But I would be one of those to fly it like a trainer 😂. Looks impressive with you flying it. I’m still curious if it is twitchy by design? Great video. Thank you. God bless.
This plane is meant for aggressive aerobatics and 3D flying so the control surfaces are large so that it is capable of quick movements. You can tone down the twitchiness by lowering the rates and increasing expo. I didn't notice a suggested expo setting in the manual but many 3D planes recommend an expo between 30-60%
@@FlailinMonkey Thank you for the info on the rates and expo settings. I am by no means a pilot capable of 3D maneuvers. But I really like the looks of this plane. In your opinion what would be good rate settings?
@@jeffreystone7327 I would follow the manuals suggested rate for low/high with a minimum 30-40% expo. Fly on low rates to see how that is and adjust from there based on how it feels to you. Depending on your skills and how it feels to you, you might want to fly on high or make a medium rate somewhere in between and might want even higher expo on the elevator/rudder.
Nate you should always dial in about 20% expo in high rates. Especially since you don’t fly the same planes week after week. I even go to a lower rate & expo for rudder on a separate switch. Thanks for giving us some cash off of these planes. Unfortunately I just grabbed a Banshee from Freewing . Plus I always require flap where I fly and reverse thrust if available. Great video and Camera Gal. God Bless
20% is nothing. I usually give 40% on high rates and I have 90-95% expo on some of my modded aerobatic planes: Freewing f-22 with TV and Freewing SU-35 with added canards. The are unflyable without it.
@Adam Trzaskowski I don't get into crazy 3D stuff so high % on expo for me is to much. But I certainly agree if your into 3D high expo is your friend. I always start out a Maiden with 20% expo and flip higher if need be. Flying Maiden without expo is insane 😳 to say the least.
The elevator control is so sensitive just like Gamebird GB1 (even the shape of the wing looks same) Landing GB1 was like the landings in this video :-)
I have the Elfight Sukhoi SU-29MM 1.1m, it's like brand new, as I have only about 5 flights on it. It's so nice I don't wanna get to comfortable and mess it up lol. Anyway, that plane, BNF, was right at about $200. That plane will do just about anything. I think, since Horizon has so many 3s/4s planes out now, I'm gonna swap out the esc and see if the motor can handle 4s. Maybe I'll just give it a go without changing anything, lol. Do it on a lower c rated battery, perhaps.
I noticed the coupon code takes the price back to what they were a few months ago. Like everything prices have increased on everything. Thanks for the help to keep them where they were for a bit longer.
On this plane, it might not be super “impacting” on the price, but we are trying!! Be sure to tune in on our next video 😉 We are hoping to break the internet with this one! 😬😎⚓️
@TheRcSaylors Nate I don't miss any of your videos unless it's unrelated to R/c Planes. 😁 Your my Morning coffee ☕️ wake up video. Starts my day off with a smile. 👍🤙
Use strong led light and use plastic glass for beginner use 3 colors blue and white dark this 3 color and set on the drone which colors you can't see the airplane just for advise god bless
In my opinion, it is OK to add more EXPO to the elevator... but according to the response of the model (even in safe mode) the center of gravity was too far back..... The flight would be much smoother if the center of gravity was slightly moved forward.....But otherwise a great plane..... Peter
It's not uncommon for 3D planes to be setup with as much as 50% expo on some controls when in high rates. I've been amazed that some folks fly with no expo...I can, but it's very twitchy and not smooth at all. 😲
Nate, wasn't it just a year or two ago that you didn't use rates and EXPO? Why have you now started to use these TX options? [To your credit I don't remember you ever bashing their use.] Personally, if it weren't for rates, expo, SAFE and a few other flight technologies I might not have stuck with this hobby.
Update: So the Tecnam does actually show in stock (at least the version I clicked on) but I can tell you that the Tecnam is Not one of the planes that our coupon code works on currently. So far, it’s the Edge 540 and the P-51 and the Trojan T-28. More to come soon! 😉⚓️
@TheRcSaylors I should have bee more specific. I wanted the one with floats. Thanks for responding. Watch you guys all the time. Congratulations on you new child.
I get the feeling there is a bit of a problem with overcontrol on this plane. I have been thinking about buying one for ages but I can't convince myself that there isn't an issue with it. When you (and Grandpa Gary) first flew it I got the distinct impression that neither of you were totally happy with it. I bet I'm not the only one who has been put off by this. It would be great if you would get to the bottom of it and determine what exactly is the problem . ie is it expo, or C of G, or just too high rates, or something else inherently wrong witht the design or set up?
@@jcb6713 Agreed with all of that. I didn't see the previous flight of this but watching this, at first I thought it behaved very tail heavy. He was flying a fair bit more smoothly later so not sure. If you want great aerobatics you don't want nose heavy but, this might still be a bit too much on the tail but, I think a lot of it is that it has an ENORMOUS elevator for the size of it and he may not be used to that much authority so, EXPO, and probably dual rate on at least that elevator if he can't tame it. I expected a clunk and 'some' damage on BOTH those wonky looking landings but somehow it just kissed the ground both times lol.
You need to fix the CG. It was pitching up very quickly, it looked like you were fighting that more than anything. I like all my planes with a nose down attitude. It's way safer as well. The only exception being high wing planes, as they are so floaty its almost impossible to get that anyway.
Damn you! I think I hate you now! I had zero plans of buying any new models but, I used to have an Extra 260 or 300, I honestly can't remember for sure but, I absolutely loved it. I much prefer a tail dragger for 1, I love a centerline symmetrical type wing that give no funny pulling up or down of the nose under sudden throttle, plus behaves almost identical upright or inverted and my Extra was smaller but just big enough to be pretty good, that looks perfect size wise. I love the huge control surfaces too. You had way too much fun there and I tried to buy one. They still are in stock BUT, the stupid checkout poos itself about shipping to my address here in Australia and tells me to contact them. I have emailed them to try and sort something out but, guarantee they'll run out of stock whilst sorting it out! I was VERY surprised that on BOTH of those 2 really wonky looking landing approaches it actually touched down very gently lol. I was sure they were going to be damaging but fluke twice or not, you did great. IF I eventually do manage to get mine, it'll be interesting to see how long the wheel spats last. Usually with me, plus grass they often get wiped out on the first landing. It doesn't matter if they do, I'll just pull the wheels off too and replace them with my favorite 5mm wide by 75mm diameter super light little wheels that rattle and wobble but do the job well on knotty grass an have very low wind resistance because they're so skinny. That thing is the type of configuration I have the most fun with and a surprisingly affordable price, depending on what they come up with for shipping that is. I'll fully expect to have that wood prop destroyed almost immediately and the "safety thing" will be either turned off permanently and removed if possible. I notice the servos at the tail so I could cable operate 1 or more then run a lighter battery without being tail heavy, I'll decide on that after some testing though. So far it looks awesome to me. PS: I hate adding even small extra weight like fake pilots so usually use spray dark tint on the inside of clear canopies and this one saves me having to do that by having that already so an EXTRA bonus there! I have GOT TO get this model!!!!! Thanks for showing us this ripper.
