Honestly massive respect for it, going another level for repairability. Will there be a video of the journey of how the project omega being made, and all the things that you learned? Amazing project. The opensource/repairable nature of this could also lend itself to a ton of customization. As an industrial designer, I'd love to see pared down CAD for the outer cup surface to make custom meshes and grills to really personalize the looks, even if that adds a hair more weight and acoustic impedance. Great job, looks cool! I also design, 3D print headphones and tune them differently to understand more of their behaviour. I am using K712 and K812 drivers currently to get most of the sound quality from a driver but I am also looking forward to try drivers made of various materials and technologies. I have the same key features in mind like repairability, customization and modding possibilities. Great fun to experiment and very often surpisingly rewarding results. My design is mostly based on the DT770 and a little AKG resemblance. Can take 100 and 110mm pads, closed, semi-open, open design possibility. Option for angled drivers, balanced or one sided input connectors, variable headband clamping force. Mine is fully 3D printed so I was able to go down to 240g. There are so many options to fulfill requirements. There is simply no one rule them all... I also had a project omega ;)

Open source here doesnt mean jack shit if absolutely nobody can build one but another company that will inevitably jack the price up even farther, because dms wont be selling any to compete. For fucks sake DMS.. Most disappointing move I've ever seen them do
This was such a heartfelt letter to a community that you obviously care deeply about. The sheer sincerity you give off about this project and audio in general is truly commendable. Even without knowing anything about these headphones, I would want to buy them just to support something that was made out of pure love. I'd expect nothing less from one of the best voices in the field. Congratulations, man. I'm so excited to see how this turns out.
Congrats DMS! I mean, I’m a little bummed that these won’t be available worldwide, but that’s just how things go I guess. It’s also big time out of my budget, but I too understand how it came to be. The fact that it’s made to order and takes 3 months per unit explains a lot of the price.
Congratz on the great work. I haven't heard this, but base off the graphs it's bit surprising that you could hit such target adherence with the Dekoni Suede pads. Those are deep and plushy but tend to push away the midrange by attenuating the upper mids with its gigantic front volume and overall thickness (IME when measuring other headphones with these pads). So that says a lot about the efforts put into tuning from waht I see.
Congratulations on your very own creation DMS! On your point of sending these out to reviewers, while that's great - I think to include the audience outside of audiophiles, you should send these to mass media outlets like LTT, MKBHD, Dave2D, UrAvgConsumer etc. With their reviews, you'll have so many eyes on your product that it'll be known, not just in the audiophile community but, in the normal every day people too.
Just ordered one about 2 hours ago based on your review reputation as per my perception at least! I'm a 70 y.o. and I am thrilled to be part of your "indie" journey! An inquiry, if I may: I listen exclusively to CD's played on an Oppo 150BDP which has Sabre Dacs built in fed by xlr cables into a Violectric V281. Thus, making it very difficult to do EQ unless I put an analog "machine" EQ in the chain which I am trying to avoid. Many of my 3K+ CD's are pre 2001 and I do experience trying to retrieve bass of any consequence. I do hope your Omegas will help with my listening quest. Do you think the "Vio" is a good combo with your beautiful Omegas? Good luck in your venture. So impressed with your intention to open source, BTW!
Great stuff DMS - just in time to go head-to-head with Zeos' new (collab) fullsize cans. I'm also keen to see your 3D-printed speakers in use on your desk. Thanks in advance !
I think the driver looks great with the red coloring BUT would love to have a transparent “sennheiser-like” mesh that covers the cup/driver while give it some contour for that high end feeling. Just my opinion as I’m heavily interested in these.
Congrats on making that big leap and putting you self our there with your own headphone. I'm sure it will be fantastic and I cant wait for the reviews and possibly my own set. I LOVE the 6xx so this sounds up my alley.
Pretty cool man, printing your own speakers and now creating a headphone. I'm not a fan of the looks though, but I guess they are designed for home usage anyway - so as long as they sound good who cares :D And thanks for the tip with the resistor adapter, I only found a single one of these things being sold in Germany - The ifi iEMatch. If this actually changes the sound or rather improves it, then it would be a cool gadget to have.
Alright dude. I've been a big DMS supporter since 2016. Let's see what you got. Can't wait to hear them in three months. Can I get a low serial number? Haha
Really cool that you got to do this. It’s the dream of every audiophile person. Huge Congrats! Even if these suck, which they don’t, it’s still only the beginning. In 15 years DMS will be up there with the high audio speakers and headphones. Yeah, and name your brand, DMS. Don’t even care what it stands for. It sounds great! 👍🙃
Wow. Congratulations, what a cool take and I hope to listen to one some day. At $1000 I cannot justify one, but at least I have 9 months to try to audition one Edit: This is from someone who mained an hd650 from pre release
Good luck with the project, I really hope this is a huge success and leads to other products in the future. I will likely order one, please don't be offended if I wait for some reviews though
Congrats. WAY out of my price range. My most expensive headphones are less than half that and that was already a stretch for me. hopefully this is hugely success full and you can work on more in the future maybe even something at a lower price point :)
HD6xx with more extension both directions, and more open sound stage, seems like a great starting point. I am curious to see the weight for it, "Soon" is an interesting option. I am totally cool with the open sourcing of it, and look forward to seeing what evolves from that. I am curious, is your DAC/Amp project still ongoing?

Wish these were in my budget - would love to experience these, we'll see how this year goes (never know).
would be nice to see a updated version of the vinyl budget setup
So impressed with your intention to open source, BTW!
sweet setup!...
@@orangeruffian Thx.
Wow congrats man!
Thanks!
I love this. Awesome project, congrats!
Time to sleep and time skip closer to the premiere time. 🌜
How did he mix that music so f*ing good for UA-cam? That's crazy.
Perfect timing. $3,000 SLS machine coming soon. ❤️_❤️
I'm not a fan of the looks though, but I guess they are designed for home usage anyway - so as long as they sound good who cares :D
And thanks for the tip with the resistor adapter, I only found a single one of these things being sold in Germany - The ifi iEMatch. If this actually changes the sound or rather improves it, then it would be a cool gadget to have.
Congratulations man. They look great.
ouuu! Loving this! Have a good launch for sure!
Awe man! 13 hours!?! Are we there yet… haha be back then
Certainly one of the headphones of all time.
Alright dude. I've been a big DMS supporter since 2016. Let's see what you got. Can't wait to hear them in three months. Can I get a low serial number? Haha
All the way from the start! 😄
👍🙃
Really excited for this! Hopefully I can get them during the year :D
Wow. Congratulations, what a cool take and I hope to listen to one some day. At $1000 I cannot justify one, but at least I have 9 months to try to audition one
Edit: This is from someone who mained an hd650 from pre release
Man I'd love to hear those!
I wish you good luck for your project.
Proud moment, huge congrats!
The fact he made them from the ground up instead of some lame colab is impressive.
Hope it goes well and DMS is one of the only reviewers that most of the time I agree with .
Unfortunately broke AF so I will have to live vicariously through others on this one lol
