I was there from 89-92. Loved it. Looks so different now. Was hoping to see the big hill by the gas station before you leave post. Wonder if the Burger King is still there up around Custer Golf Course still.

When I first got to Riley in 2008. I was a city boy born and raised in Miami, FL. I was like "what in the hell is this country ass middle of nowhere place?" It was a culture shock
After 5 years of getting to know kansas and its history. After spending many times in Lawrence, ks and Kansas city I came to love it and the simplicity of country life. I sure do miss it now. Next year will make 10 years since I was last at Fort Riley and I think about it often. It leaves an lasting impression.

I do miss Ft Riley and I am still mad at myself for getting out after my first tour. I was up on Custard hill but these places look like the old WWII housing area (coming in from Junction city (we called it junk town). I left in 1978, Life looks a lot better then back in my day and you deserve it. Thank all of you still serving.

Lived in Junction City and finished HS there. Partied in Topeka. Concerts in KCMO. Bought my first car. A wonderful wonderful experience. Never thought I’d miss it so much 😢

Didn't know I would feel this way then; but after 40yrs, I sure do miss my days at Riley. Worked hard, had a lot of fun and did a lot of growing up while there back in the day. 121st Signal Battalion '82-'84. Lots of fond memories there. Certainly has changed! Was bustling with vehicles and soldiers when I was there, just so deserted looking in comparison now. Thanks for posting this drive down memory lane for us. Thanks to all who serve!

Pop was at Marshell field as NCOIC in the 1950's to early 60's Main post was full of trees and 2 lanes most buildings were WW2 and earlier. There was K-park housing up on Custer Hill with an Elementry and Jr High schools. The Cemetary was park like and was noted for the graves of people who had been one of the first to die from the Spainish flu, their graves were off in a far corner. Which seemed odd due to the number of graves of people who had died from Cohlera , Yellow Fever and Typhoid. There had also been a Buffalo herd roaming around an ammo storage area near Custers Hill. Mom and Dad would go to the commissary and my brother and I would tear around the 2 Cav Riding School buildings. My Dad had some 1930's Horse Cav NCO's assigned and they became family Friends. Learned alot about the Ol'Army from them one fellow had a real passion for the jeep, too. The Engineers bridge was an experence to cross. Riley was a small town it was something of a put off when someone would stop and say "you are the SergeantMajor's boys" . Home!

Things were great before the war and after we got back some guys had left during the war for hardships ( deaths) and it was still ok but not getting to say goodbye to about 3 good friends really stung. It is what you make of it. Single soldiers rooms have closets, kitchens, and it’s just so much friendlier to todays soldiers. Didn’t matter we were always in Manhattan, Lawerence, Denver, Estes Park Colorado and KC so if you just stuck to the barracks I would imagine it would of sucked for a lot of people. I left with less money then when I went in and it was worth every dollar. 😆🤣😎
