Ahead of the curve on technology possibly, but at what cost? No really, what's the cost of the that thing when it's all said and done? And they'll charge for the improvements too. I'd really like to own the uniden, but I don't feel I'd actually own it. No way I'm buying it or supporting them.
Very good comparison and thanks for posting this video! Only one downside... the volume is very low. Perhaps you can speak closer to the microphone. Even with ear buds it was difficult hearing your voice.
I have a mic, it's possible this was the video where it wasn't all-the-way plugged in. I've had audio issues, but future videos shouldn't have any of those problems. Thanks!
SDS200 suffers a little on vhf but can be overcome with an external or external preamp and antenna, but the ease of programming with just a zip code is a real joy especially on road trips, love it. The ease of deselecting /selecting types of services from RR to Amateur to Federal, you name it and the versatility of your selection with the updated database from Radio Reference makes it a powerful time saving edit function with just a few pushes of a button, well worth it.. I don't mind paying for a few extra software modes in trade for the ease of use with the SDS200. It excels in the uhf portion. a selectable filter called Global Auto Filter can fine tune your band width by shifting it out from interference allowing for certain reception areas dealing with nearby transmitters, after a few years using the SDS200, I have zero complaints especially noting the wide screen color display with editing off aspects of the data or full inclusion of it.
I have the TRX 2 and I only receives one police dept on the RWC system, I don't receive any other police dept that uses RWC. I know this because I also have the SDS 200 and it receives numerous police departments on RWC.
Hey Dennis! I know its been a while since this was commented but feel free to reach out to our tech support at 737-777-9876 and we will be happy to look into this for you.
I live in a rural area about 10 mile from a small city . there is one or two dmr transmissions I would like to receive from the city . which of these scanners would be better for receiving long distances. i know about hills and outside antennas etc.
Until Uniden adds DMR & NXDM I will NOT buy Uniden. There, I said it. I have been buying Bearcat & Uniden for 50+ years. I will not pay extra for those codes anymore. TRX2 will be my next scanner. Wake up Uniden.
I love the TRX2 but mine has failed. It will not power up. The displays says release power button but will not release and boot up. I replaced the control head for $100 and it does the same thing. I don't want to gamble any more trying to fix it so it might be time to pay up and get a Uniden.
For the TRX 2, I especially like the separate power button. That saves re-adjusting the volume knob. I also like the dual volume/squelch that frees up space on the front panel. I agree that the front panel Ethernet jack should be on the rear panel.
@Zipscanners1 I just got a new Baofeng vr5 and can't pic up 💩😡, just school bus dispatch and hams, and I still get that on my 16 ch Bearcat XL144 I got back in 1997.
Whistler is much better then Uniden because All Their Upgrades are Free! I have a SDR Radio, It the SDR Play DX, with SDR Angel I can Motor All Digital Voice Modes and Also can Motor Digital Video Modes, and can Receive from 1 Khz to 2 Ghz, All this for Less then $200 Dollars,
Your audio is too low. I have noticed this on several of your videos. I have my monitors volume up to 100 and your still too low! Do you watch your videos before you send them to UA-cam?
They're the two best mobile/base scanners...why can't they be compared? I've heard most customers say the exact opposite. Some folks despise the SDS200, but that must be total crap, huh?
They are crap radios. They can't even trunk track the right way like Uniden does. Also, these radios do not NXDN Trunk track right either. Side by side on the radio's you can't even compare even. So don't even say that Whistler is a better radio. I can go on and on about how Whistler can't perform like Uniden. Unitil Whistler designs a radio like Uniden case is closed. Also, the Uniden SDS-200 pickups 700-800 mhz long distance TRS systems that even other Uniden and Whistler model can't pickup. This is because the SDS-200 has very sensitive filter's now that can be added by departments and systems. Maybe I should keep going on?
I mean, I didn't say the TRX-2 is better, I just said a lot of users prefer them because they've been reliable for longer and they decode modes of transmission that Uniden charges for. I get 100% more SDS200 returns than TRX-2 returns. I DID say the SDS200 offers more, but some, maybe even most, would prefer the TRX-2 just based on the price.
I agree. The price is more affordable and the NXDN and DMR is included. I do give Whistler those thumbs up. I guess if you want the best of both worlds buy the TRX base model and the Uniden SDS-200 radios. Whistler just needs to step up their game and release new radios and not just keep adding firmware upgrades to old radio and renaming them. Hopefully they come to the table soon. If not, then they will get passed up. Don't want to see what happened to Whistler and to what happened to GRE
@@ryantodwakefield Whistler really isn't looking to expand the way Uniden is. Scanners are just one division of both manufacturers. Whistler absorbed GRE and will probably meet the same fate. Whistler isn't going out of business, but their scanner division might.
I worked for the Whistler Group for 11 years.. I now work for Uniden,. Uniden is way ahead of the curve compared to Whistler. Buy the Uniden.
Thanks for your perspective!
Just get ready to add $100 to the price of the uniden for any upgrades- and their website sucks. but I like the uniden interface much better.
Not till they stop charging for DMR & NXDM. They need to stop ripping us off.
Ahead of the curve on technology possibly, but at what cost? No really, what's the cost of the that thing when it's all said and done? And they'll charge for the improvements too. I'd really like to own the uniden, but I don't feel I'd actually own it. No way I'm buying it or supporting them.
Tell them to release remote heads again. I'm not going to mount that huge box on my dash.
Very good comparison and thanks for posting this video! Only one downside... the volume is very low. Perhaps you can speak closer to the microphone. Even with ear buds it was difficult hearing your voice.

Sounds great to me.
Nice vid, very informative - thank you !
Thanks! Glad you like it... trying to get better as we make more

Thanks for the feedback on the unit!

My pleasure!

i know about hills and outside antennas etc.
If you don't want to pay for the DMR upgrade for just two transmissions I would recommend the TRX-2. They both receive well from long distances.
I love my trx2.
Great!
Looking at getting a trx2 this week.
Good choice!
Great review😆
Appreciate it!
What’s the dealer pricing on these items ?
The SDS200 is $699.99, and the TRX-2 is $509.99
Doesn't the SDS200 have a color screen?
Yes, it has a customizable scan screen.
Yes

Definitely! The TRX-2 comes built in with those software, but beware of Simulcast though.

I can hardly hear him talk.
Yeah - old video and we (think?) we fixed bad audio in newer videos.

Thanks for the comment.
TRX2 now $429 at Walmart
I am seeing $499
Back at $429 4-17-21
Is it true that most fire, pd, rescue, etc has a 5 minute delay?
Not necessarily. It would depend on what you are using to listen in with.
@Zipscanners1 I just got a new Baofeng vr5 and can't pic up 💩😡, just school bus dispatch and hams, and I still get that on my 16 ch Bearcat XL144 I got back in 1997.
What I want is for a scanner to support Tetra.
Tetra decoding isn't for police scanners.
Can you use the trx2 with WiFi adapter?.
No only the 536HP has this feature.

Thanks for pointing this out. We will have an updated playlist later this year. Always appreciate the feedback.
can not hear you
Use headphones
Speak up volume to low
Sorry about that Danny!
Total Crap video. Whistler is going out of business. Whistler can't even compare to Uniden SDS-200 radios

These are all junk... you pay all that money and you get gaps... doesn't even have full coverage receive!...waste of money
