- Guitar cover of Forty Six & 2! The song that made me discover Tool, so I had to put effort into it and get it exactly like Adam Jones plays it which was harder than expected

1:05 gets me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Cannot get over that little riff
If I ever get a guitar, this is what I'd try to learn.
Get a guitar!
@@t.sewell1513 Lol I'm way to young to do that. :(
Someday!
@@Syncopated_ You are never too young to start.Btw how old are you to assume you are too young?
@@arcane3943 Well... I'm 12. I can't really get my own guitar yet, and my house is to small with to many people to play in my room. People would be annoyed lol. Luckily my family is moving in a few years to a bigger house. Hopefully by then I can get a guitar. :D
This is so good its disgusting. Amazing job man. Best I've seen, and your lesson is well done also.
Why is it disgusting?
@@DaveTaste Cause it has a good nasty sound and everybody loves that
It's so subtle and simple, but sounds so full and complex.
What i love about Tool is how extremely misleading their songs are. Yes they sound hard, but, its all rhythms (to an extent lol) Adam Jones has some weird ass techniques that after learning you have a whole new perspective on Tools music. After i mastered most of his techniques 90% of their songs came easy to me. To any new guitar players out there wanting to learn any tool song i recommend picking up this song. Its not as complexly rhythmic as most of their songs so honestly just jam out to this song.
3:30 my favorite part of this song🔥
This has been one of the best guitar covers from tool that I’ve seen in a long time!
With the exception that the guitar is a little bit louder in the mix in your version this is nearly indistinguishable from the album. Great fucking job dude. Definitely subscribing to your channel now.
I started to learn/play this song on my guitar using your video. It has the perfect guitar sound level for it and what an awesome cover you did!
holy shit had no idea adam was cooking all this up
Spot on! Great work!
Cool cover and nicely done!
Nice cover man! This really helped me learn this song.
You killed it dude god damn
Thanks for putting in the time to get the details accurate. Sounds awesome.
STELLAR!! really, really great job man! Guitar tone was nice too!
Im jealous! Simply put! Nice job sir! Make Adam proud!
Dang man. Sounds good. One of my favorite songs.
Amazing sound!
Fuck yeah my dude! That closing chord always makes me headbang like nuts
So damn clean.
Great tone dude
This needs more views... spot on
Well done!
FUCK YEA!! KILLED IT!! 🔥🔥🔥
This is the only guitar cover out there that does it correctly, thank god you are here
Pretty damn close!
Yes!! Best Tool song and best Tool album imho :D
How have I just come across this? Fucking phenomenal cover man
Only good cover of this song I've seen so far bro
Love it.
Nailed it!!!
Badass brotha 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Amazing, how do you get that awesome tone on your tool covers??
Pretty badass!! Just started to try to learn this song....wish I had your skills...lol
Hell yeah!! Absolutely disgusting!! Loved it, that was perfect man. All there songs seem so hard but it's mainly timing. Life wouldn't be worth living without drop D.
That was absolutely unreal.
Awesome
This cover is just perfect, can you upload the backing track please?
The backing track seems to be the actual song.
@@rolojared gracias cambiaste mi vida ahora soy libre
Wonderful
Why so much moving around? That’s not very Adam Jones like... 😆
Can you give me a link to the backing track?
Respect
The harmonics at 5:04 are missing. I can barely hear them in the backing track, but that isnt what is being played. Maybe it was all just post production stuff added later and this is how it was recorded.
I think you missed the kind of indian sounding bit on the second part of the end of verse. During the "word to guide me in" part. (The bit after the high part, that is up near the second fret. "Nownga-Nownga-Nown" is what it sounds like or maybe "Bap boombap boombap" There is a swing to it, rather than a straight triplet.) I'm relistening and I'll timestamp it if I heard correctly. 1:48 to be exact.
This is BY FAR the best anyone has done on this song.
Thanks for the constructive criticism, yeah after 5:04 there's lot going on with different layers, I chose to play what Adam's playing live but I agree it's missing some harmonics
Not sure what you're talking about for the end of the verse. Even looking back at live videos, sounds like I got it kinda right
@@Fearskill **edit×2: I found something with the sound that is relatively isolated: The backing intro to Do You Call My Name, by Ra. (Before the guitar solo comes in. First 4 or 5 seconds, if I remember right.) It's an egyptian/middle eastern sound. The slight bend is what makes it sound middle eastern, but its also the same rhythm as the lick right before the first "Hey Joe" in... Hey Joe.**
Hendrix doesnt use the bend, though. Middle Eastern music involves a lot of half tones and quarter tones that are beyond bonkers. I dont know if you've seen their stringer instruments, but the frets are not standardized like a guitar. Well, maybe they are, but it looks like a mess for any guitarist. There might be 3 frets in between Ab and A, for example.
I'm trying to think of the exact sound in something else. Its kind of a swing rhythm on the last bit. I cant come up with the right words to describe it that sound sane. I'll find it in the album track and give you a time stamp. **Edit again: it's at **1:49** -**1:50** on the Vevo Album version. The bass seems too loud, but you can hear it, barely. It's almost more of a bend sound, but it's just that quick. it's the equivalent of hitting the open string with a quick hammer on the second fret, then hitting the open string of whatever the next higher pitch string is. It's a rolling kind of sound.**
Your notes are dead on, and again, fucking fantastic cover.
This may sound lame, but I've seen almost every version on youtube at some point or another, trying to figure out the harmonic part, because it isnt a standard pinch harmonic or false harmonic. Its beyond words, and maybe it's the overtone or something. When this song came out, I was like 11, and it was the first song I learned on bass (because goddamn that pedal tone was so cool to play. Filter has a similar bit with the chorus of Hey Man Nice Shot, and later the Deftones did it in My Own Summer. Although the Deftones one was harder after knowing 46&2, since it uses the same note twice, which threw me for a loop because I didnt know that was possible.)
I've talked to a ton of people doing the covers, and no one really has a good explanation for what it is. That makes sense, since no one does it. I mean, it COULD be a pinch harmonic (the real kind, not the little pick screech thing that Daron from System and Jim from Slipknot loves) but the speed is absolutely ridiculous if it is. It would have to be dead on too, which is tough as hell matching the pick hand with fret hand as much as it moves during that part.
@@Fearskill no more edits. New comment...
Maybe I'm insane, because I hear it clear as day on the album, but I just checked 4 random guitar covers and no one does it. I swear to God, I hear it. That specific part has always stuck out to me because of the vibe it creates with the whole "mystic enlightenment" motif of the song at the beginning.
I've heard the song about 20,000 times, on cassette, CD, Mp3, and any other way you could hear it, and it is always there for me.
How about this, on Eulogy, do you hear a car horn sound in the last 6 seconds of the song? Eulogy has the classic Tool drawn out closing section, and the horn(probably just weird feedback that was left in) is at the very end of the song, in between the last two 4 note stabs. It sounds like...
duh-duh-duh-duh
duh-duh-duh-duh (beep)
Duh-duh-duh-duh.
Maybe I'm not crazy, though.
@@CNNBlackmailSupport Holy crap dude, you really went to town on him. Lol
@@Syncopated_ yikes. Im sorry it came off like that. He has the most accurate cover version I've ever heard, its just hard to describe it without listening and saying "Here! That part!"
It might just be a matter of how people hear things. Some people hear things in 6/4 + 1/4, some hear 7/4. It just depends on the phrasing. Take Starboy by the Weekend(or weeknd?) You can hear that in 4/4 straight, but you can also hear it as 3/2 swing, with 6 triplets per measure. There is a correct, definitive answer. There are also ways to hear it that make more sense to someone learning the song.
I'm pretty sure there is a middle eastern/Indian flourish on that single guitar part of 46&2, though.
If you want to hear something crazy, watch Rick Beato's "what makes this song great?" Series covering APC's Weak and Powerless. He isolates the guitar tracks and Holy shit... at the "little angel go away..." bridge, the guitar part is straight up country/folk twang. It's bizarre. You hear it in the song, but the rest of the music locks into different places so you don't actually hear what the guitar is doing beyond the ending bits of each measure.
