    I was 385lbs and my doc suggested ozempic. I did lose weight with it, but I went from being an active overweight guy to a less overweight guy who was sick and couldn’t walk half a mile. 6 weeks ago I stopped ozempic, and a month ago I started carnivore. I’m now 320lbs and today, I’m on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, it’s been a bit of a challenge to eat carnivore on vacation and I haven’t been perfect, but I’m making it work… this morning I walked 2 miles to go to a coffee shop I like, then 2 miles back. This works!

    As a rancher you can not believe how much adding mulch improves the soil. I feed round bales and strategically feed in a new spot every 3 days so that the soil gets all of that left over hay and manure for the soil. In about 1 to 2 years it totally improves the soil for everything.

    • @HoneyHollowHomestead
      @HoneyHollowHomestead 5 місяців тому +12

      My best friend years ago started leasing a small pasture for her horses. The owner did nothing to improve the soil and you could see the weeds took over and there were bare spots all over. My friend would strategically put hay out for her horses and gradually, over time, her small pasture became the best section of that property.

      I've been doing that with my sheep for a couple of years. I'm working on a giant garden area and that's where I overwinter my sheep. Does it have to be hay or will straw work?

    • @HoneyHollowHomestead
      @HoneyHollowHomestead 5 місяців тому +2

      @@theresa337 They use straw to control erosion, over top of seeded bare soil. The advantage of hay is that it contains seeds. I can't say for all areas, but in mine, hay is cheaper than straw.

    • @markwhite6782
      @markwhite6782 5 місяців тому +1

      I'm no expert but it seems straw would also work but may take a little longer since it's blades are much bigger. Not kidding, what Dr. Berry was talking about is right on. We have placed round bales on the ground where the soil is tight clay and within a couple of years it literally turns the top 4 inches to a high organic mulch. I would guess this would be even better for sandy soils adding all the organic carbon to the soil.@@theresa337

    YES! This is awesome. A few years ago, I started transforming my small (1/2 acre) property into a permaculture food forest. As a vegetarian, it was heaven...until my diet of oreos and quesadillas turned into more fresh beans and broccoli and I got very sick. I am now a few months into carnivore, and have shifted my focus to rehabbing my property into a native landscape (I will keep the fruit trees, but no veggies) and will be building a pond and eventually get my own chickens. I am learning which native plants have edible fruits so I can eat them as they are in season as our ancestors did. This whole lifestyle is changing my entire world. Great video.

    I started yesterday while having the worst abdominal discomfort I've ever had. I have other medical issues and am still trying to get the last of the Thyroid cancer out of me. I ate meat and cheese only and used only animal fats. I also 16/8 fast almost everyday which I have done for about 2 years prior and lost 40lbs by doing so.
    Just 1 day later my abdominal discomfort is 2/3rds better and I'm not even hungry at 11am today. Since my thyroid was removed I have started gaining weight back. That, and constantly feeling like garbage and watching my body deteriorate by my own hand, made me say enough.

Poopy barn shavings from our chickens have created the richest, black wormy soil you'll ever want to see by just dumping it and allowing it to compost over a particular area. My chickens sustain us with fertilizer, rich eggs and entertainment (no screen needed!). And we selectively cleared our adjoining lot, pulled stumps and seeded it. It sustains generations of deer for future potential food. Blessings to your family in 2024~Cynthia, ketovore/carnivore for 5 years. No more struggling with my weight.

    Dr berry, ive been carnivore for 7mths, cured every chronic illness I had, and lost 70lbs. Thank you for contributing to that. I also, during the covid nonsense years, became a bit of a prepper. The idea of self sufficiency in a time of unrest or catastrophic failure of the supply chain, became very appealing. During covid many medicines in Australia became literally unavailable overnight, and carnivore has made me independent of routine medicines. I agree we need to go to basics across the board, "the wise man sees danger coming from afar, and prepares accordingly. The fool thinks it wont affect him".( I have paraphrased this somewhat, but I think we all get the message).

      There are actually farmers and ranchers trying to push regenerative methods. In one presentation, I found out the biggest barrier to this approach spreading is that the USDA has not stated these are "accepted agricultural practices", so the farmers and ranchers cannot get crop / livestock insurance. Insurance companies only ensure properties using accepted practices as defined by the USDA.

    I live in a apt in a major city. I'm a mentally disabled single mom. I spent at one point a year and a half living in a tent in a wooded area here with my sons father and now ex behind a bad landlord. I learned to cook over a wood fire even after all the wood was wet from a 3 day rainstorm. I learned to collect rainwater for laundry with a improvised wadhboard, hygene, and dish washing on a wood plallet wash station after boiling to get grease off. I'm one of those who never does uber eats because can't afford it. I also do "doomsday" prep. My idea of doomsday isn't zombie apocalypse though. In the past 2 Februaries we had ice storms that knocked out the power for 24-48 hours and had us on boil water notices for 2+ weeks because in ground watermains froze to burst. This was city wide. Now, my doomsday preps are creating a solar generation system, repourposing old broken box fans for wind generation, water filtration, amd lwarning food preservation, soap making using hard wood ash as lye, dehydration food by smoking in a teepee style smoker, and learning trapping and snaring as well as growing my own food in pots or learning to forage so if infrastructure collapses or implodes for a month or longer, I can only my own provide as a 5'2 woman for me, my cat who is my ESA, and my teen son by myself without issue. I'm learning to make most things myself and learning new skills as much as I can and going back to old ways as prevention in case of shtf situation. Call me crazy, I've got 3 major psych diagnosis I get a check for. I'm not offended. But I'd rather hope for the best but if the worst happens not be caught with my pants down, thumbs up my ass, whistling dixie when I've got a child and a cat to provide for without any assistance. Luckily this city has plenty of green belt or green spaces to use if that happens.

      @@lynnatk50 life is what you make of it. My life has never been easy, and as awful as being homeless was I survived far worse as a child in cps care. We all are dealt a hand of cards in life, how you play them is what matters just like in poker. In poker, the worst hand can win the pot if you play right while a really good hand can lose the round. Rome wasn't built in a day and nothing comes easy. If it comes easy it often isn't worth it. And one last bit of advise, everything we have gone through, good or bad we can learn and grow from. Horrible experience like childhood abuse or being baby trapped by my now ex then being neglected and abused by him wasn't fun and still hurts but I learned a lot of life skills and resourcefulness, and got my cat and son amongst other positives from that experience. Every bad thing you go through can still have good come from it. Doesn't make it right or make the pain and betrayal any less but every coin has two sides and things are always darkest before the dawn.

      @@janedough6575 thnx. I'm high functioning and don't suffer from psychosis or delusions. I've been off psych meds for I'd say around 6 years under drive supervision. I'm not anti med but pro what works and have a extremely high tolerance to medications in general so often opt for natural over meds so when I need a medication I haven't built a immunity to it. In fact my mental illnesses cause both manic and depressive spells as well as insomnia. I react really violently to antidepressants so can't take them. I used to use coffee as a natural option since I have a low tolerance for it while teasing or caffeinated sodas I have a pretty high tolerance to. But it turned into a double edged sword with my ibsd symptoms so now I'm doing a mix of black tea sweetened with stevia, st johns wart capsule, and sugar free and preferably carb free energy drinks (1 a day max). If the energy drink has carbs its done during my breakfast meal of brunch but if zero carb I do it earlier in the day during my fast. Winter with the tons of overcast days and shift in sunlight really is hard on me with the depression and a light bought has me feeling brain foggy and wanting to hibernate while more severe bought a have caused a history of self harm and a suicide attempt. Learning to manage with outdoor excersise, herbs, and the right amount and timing of caffeine is what works. With mania I tend to do a bit of skullcap in green or white tea to mellow myself out throughout the day then mix with chamomile as a sleep aid. Still using natur remedies on that. Also I find doing walks later in the day as a workout during manic spells and reading help calm my mind and tire my body to aid stabilizing the mania and the insomnia it causes to flare up. I'm not one for meditation while I am quite aware of its benefits it doesn't work for me but walks while listening to a podcast or loud music with noise canceling headphones I find works like meditation for me and gets me out of my head while creating more focus. Walks are actually one of my go to destresser coping skills. I may by the us government be considered insane, I get ssi for it. But I personally am of the mindset I don't have issues, I have lifetime subscriptions and insane is a title better fitting my mom, serial killers like btk, cult leaders, and mass shooters. That and pedophiles and other people who get off on others pain and suffering.

The mulch was always tilled in in the fall until I found the "Back to Eden" system 12 or so years ago. Basically just keep adding new layers of mulch and let it compost in place. Last spring I planted some tomatoes and squash, I hand dig thru the mulch and 5 inch of compost to reach the soil. Other than the first 3-4 weeks after transplanting, there is NO need for watering even in our last few very dry summers that the weatherman called droughts.

    I live in a small rural city in Oklahoma. We love trees, so I’m always mitigating tree trash while attempting to maintain its “street side” view. So, i pile up the tree trash and, invariably, a rabbit inhabits it within 30 days. I have a garden, so this is not kosher for the long term. There is abandoned areas away from my own property where I dump some of the tree trash for the rabbits. There, the coyotes keep them under control in that place while also providing shelter for those strong enough to survive (They always do.)
    Doing what we can to maintain that balance of the cycle of life by knowing the lay of the land is crucial in keeping from destroying small or large parts of it. Sometimes, our activity is unavailable and that is relegated to then where we need to continue to survive on our own. Like it or not, the environment needs us in it. I think this is often forgotten in the realm of earth worship. We are just as valuable to any environment as harmful. There are federal programs whereby one can get funding to raise and reintroduce quail into the environment. And when we do this, we are highly valuable to the local ecology. Even extinguishing coyotes and wild boars is crucial as only mankind can control these populations in many cases regarding coyotes, but especially for boars which have no known predators.

They can stop sending us computer chips for our vehicles and the car prices jump $7,000 in cost in less than a year. They can charge us $15 for chicken wings and no one bats an eye. All the while over sea countries can sell us the same product for cheaper (because they are the ones who have inflated our prices)… putting small American companies out of business…. And giving other countries still more control of our economy. I’m happy to see these type of videos from Dr Berry. Our country needs to stop acting like adolescents and start acting like adults.

    Good advice, I have lived on my 3.5 acre small holding for 40 years, and built everything ( house and barns) but now I am old I cannot do the things that need doing, and it annoys me that my 50 year old son is NOT interested although he still lives at home, he is more interested in watching television and playing silly games, and this makes me very sad and depressed.

      I understand your frustration and empathize. We cannot instill positive values in our children (grown though they may be); it has to come from within. Know that you are admired and respected by someone of the opposite gender, similar age, who is facing much the same. No easy answers, sir.

      This makes me so sad. I would LOVE the chance to live on an acreage. We live in town and have a 3/4 acre lot. I have planted 5 fruit trees, have raspberries, gooseberries, and strawberries. A huge garden and 5 happy hens. I wish I had enough land to raise meat. Meat healed me. I still eat seasonally from my organic garden as money is tight, but meat is what my body craves. I pray your son wakes up to what is going on and becomes passionate in keeping up/building your homestead. God bless you.

    Anyhow, when I see prep vids I sometimes become overwhelmed by so much daunting work. I am one of 3 in my household, and the only one who is proactive about long-term SHTF survival. I'm only 3years into the mission and often hit plateaus where I lose my motivation. The smartest thing I can remind myself of, is to consider each task as putting down a deposit toward my survival. It's the only thing that really helps light the fire under my tail.

      The lesson I would take from that fantasy fear porn show is we do need each other. Ideally one with the resources has a family or network of likeminded people that will assist in security. I think we forget that modern law, and unnatural societal norms have removed the real consequences of bad behavior. Once they experience the immediate reality of another freely defending himself and family as necessary, they will likely decide a different course of action is wise, assuming they want to remain alive.

    Started feeling this way over twenty years ago and it took awhile to convince my husband to move from the city ad get some land. We have 2 acres in the valley of a mountain. We have our own chickens and have been here ten years now. Trying to change the soil etc. My husband is still against raising and culling our own animals, but I keep pushing us into that direction. Think about throwing out some ground cover seed to bring more animals into the area. Check out Joel Salatin at Polyface farms, he's been raising meat and selling for years and talks about rotating pigs, chickens and cows in the forest.

    I Love these shorts. We have prepared for years because we live on a ranch, small 35 acres in the mountains. We put in a orchard, berrying and flowering trees for wildlife, us, raised garden beds, have spent 26 years planting for the bees, butterfly, birds, insects, and putting in hearty natives and trees. We have bear, mountain lion, bunnies, racoons, deer, elk and they all benefit. We live and support nature and ourselves. You have to be a prepper in the mountains, but our thinking is long term and generational. We are just fine if things go to hell, and we can always help our neighbors out because we put up food, and prepare. I hope people truly start thinking with a Soverign consciousness. Compost, recycle, wash and reuse whatever you can, grow your own herbs, spices, whatever you like to eat. You can have chickens in your backyard anywhere now. Thank you Dr Berry for helping to awaken counsciousness.

I have work, a roof over head, good food to eat, (still very thankful Dr. Berry for getting me started on carnivore way!), and a good chunk of the luxuries afforded by living in the city. But supporting the city feels like I'm sapping the life out of mother earth. Seeing you doing this work... I am impressed. I wish I was there.

      Oh gosh Shane, I feel for you. I grew up in the country, but then spent a decade living and working in the big city. I couldn't WAIT to get back to where I belonged. I've now lived here on our 62 acre farm for almost 30 years and I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I'd be sick and depressed, and would prob die if I ever had to go live in a city again. If you lived in VA, I'd tell you to come visit so you could get some clean air, water, and nature time.
