I think the song is really about Maverick and Penny, Penny wasn't just Maverick's love interest in the movie, she was also his closest confidante and the person who was always supporting him and his rock in the movie, she was the wise one who always gave Maverick advice and words of wisdom whenever he turned to her for help. This song is about Penny telling Maverick that no matter how hard things become or how much he is hurting she will always be there for him and support him hence the title of the song "hold my hand". But the song could also be about finding someone and being their rock and confidante, either romantically or platonically, it doesn't really matter, everyone has someone close to them, someone they consider their "rock", it could be a lover, friend or even family member, so anyone can relate to this song. But in terms of the context of the movie, I think the song was describing Maverick & Penny's relationship specifically.

This ending theme pulls me back into the movie. Her singing voice is impressive and strong! It made me want to watch the movie again.
She closed her Chromatica Tour shows with this song and it was amazing hearing it live on a stadium.
