I saw them live at this time in 1978 supporting Siouxsie and the Banshees. We Punks at the time hated them...LOL. They had to have perspex screens in front of their synths to protect them from all the stuff that used to get chucked and spat at them! Now, I think this sounds absolutely brilliant!
This is like a middle ground between the original Fast version and the Holiday 80/Travelogue version. I dig it more than the latter but the original is still the best version.
i'm sure Midge Ure heard this Peel session. Peel sessions were very popular and he was probably into new sounds, looking for cool sounds etc etc and yes too much into fashion too... ha! but yeah! why not. "fade to grey" is a great track for a hit!!! he hired the best musicians (magazine, banshees...) and asked them to sound like this. not a prob for me. the two songs are great!!!! one is just more obsucre. love both.
The chords to fade to grey were conceived a couple of years earlier than BB, but the way the bass climbs at the end of each verse, has similarities, albeit in a different key. FTG took a while to get it how they wanted, but maybe more than a passing similarity to BB. I recently got to see the original KORG 700 that Martyn Ware used for the bass

Yeah it sounds amazing. Reworked with distorted flanger laced guitar and bass and this song could work as a really great Post-Punk song.
A piece of music history in my eyes, incredibly awesome stuff and way ahead of its time - legends, the band and of course John Peel 🙏🖤🍷
WOW, this version is just STUNNNNING!
Thank You ! ♥
This is one of the greatest songs ever - in any genre. Utter genious. I prefer this version to the 'fast' version (which is still great)
remember when we saw human league and they were very electronic they were and dance orientated too we were dancing like crazy we were..........
Great stuff!!!
So GOOD !!
best ever / good memories only

Does anyone think Visage ripped off this song on fade to grey?. My Wife commented on it recently.
It’s also appropriated by The Juan Maclean for their song, No Time, which appears on the album, The Future Will Come.

Fanatastic song but the drums sound like some popping a crisp packet...lol
@bubblesian Quite possible Midge Ure ripped off everybody, until he met Geldof.
err, no.
