Delegates from the Uncommitted National Movement and their allies launched a sit-in protest Wednesday night outside the convention hall in Chicago after the DNC refused to honor their request to let a Palestinian American speak onstage, despite allowing family members of an Israeli American hostage to address the convention. We hear voices from the sit-in with uncommitted delegates and their allies. “Today I watched my party say, 'Our tent can fit anti-choice Republicans,' but it can’t fit an elected official like me?” said Georgia state Representative Ruwa Romman, referring to convention addresses given by anti-Trump Republicans. Romman was among the list of speakers offered by the uncommitted movement that the DNC refused to allow on onstage. “We can’t take no for an answer here,” says Minneapolis City Councilmember Jeremiah Ellison, an uncommitted delegate from Minnesota.

Having the parents of the hostage was a choice I wish they didn't make. It felt like being asked to care about 1,700 people over the 50,000 people killed in Gaza. Like, honestly, who made that call? I agree. All the talk of neighborliness, freedom, joy was tainted for me the rest of the night. The parent's story was sad and worthy to be shared, but to not include the experience of loss that Palestinian Americans are experiencing felt like a slap in the face. Harris hasn't made a misstep for me up until now. It sent a confusing message.

Respectfully, you missed the point. The Goldberg-Polins were pleading for peace and an end to the suffering of innocent Gazans, as much as they were pleading for the release of the hostages.
They haven't let their pain stop them from empathizing with the agony Gaza is going through. If we saw more of that sentiment expressed by both sides of this conflict, we'd see peace and sovereignty for the Palestinians sooner.

I feel the DNC should have allowed the Palestinian American to speak just like they allowed the Israeli American family. It depends. The problem is that it is Live. Depending on the motive of the speaker in the moment ie. if they started protesting on stage or caused a big scene to where security could be called it is a massive risk. Not saying that would happen but it is understandable. They have stated multiple times over the DNC that they align with the opinions on the topic and that they are working on the ceasefire. I truly do get it but I can see their reasoning when the emotions on the topic are so high.

For what they want they need to set up an official news conference where they can purposely speak to mass amounts of people about that specific topic with out disrupting others. Listening to the Uncommitted speaking was very moving. They are all is powerful, courageous and deserve the right to speak in front of the world to demand human rights and peace for Palestinians and all life. I'm at a loss for words. This is INCREDIBLY disappointing. I wasn't going to vote for president this year when Biden was the nominee, but came around when Harris was nominated. I'm willing to give her a chance, but this situation puts all of those lofty speeches inside the Convention into perspective. The cynicism is starting to creep back in.
