    Our official review of the Gold Hog Piglet is up! Check out the awesome gold cleanup at the end of the video courtesy of *iPan4Gold* - bit.ly/2yFSswp . As of the making of this video I am not affiliated with Gold Hog. *This is NOT a paid advertisement for Gold Hog.*

    AJ, I really enjoy your videos and the information that you provide. My issue has to do with the extension for the Piglet. What most people don't understand about the Piglet is that it's a Hoss when it comes to running material. With a 2" Honda semi-trash pump running on idle, this little beast can keep 4 adults busy digging and feeding several tons of material over a day. The extension comes in handy when running at this feed rate. The Proportional Force video explains that the higher the feed rate, the longer the sluice must be. The extension pays off when you have a group of people pushing the limit of the device. We have done it a few times in gold rich areas (AK) and have been very happy with the performance of the Piglet.
    With a lower feed rate, the extension may not be needed, but if you run it balls out - it pays off. Running with an electric pump, it probably isn't necessary - you are right on that point.
    You have inspired me to use the Piglet, with the mods that you have provided, to go to places we couldn't before and use it as a recirculating system to move more material and get more gold where we only allowed to pan by regs. Thanks for being a trailblazer for using Piglets with electric pumps!
    Cheers!
    Jeff

      Thanks for the kind words Jeff! The piglet is definitely a beast! I am obviously a fan of GH products but try my best to stay objective. I am well aware of the doc's term "proportional force". Here's some food for thought -- even when running 'balls out', the top mat will still catch 90% of the gold -- the matting is that good. So if that is the case, you would have to catch a lot of gold to pay for that extension. How much? at $179 for the extension, and gold @ $1250/oz, 4.46 GRAMS, in just the extension alone! Assuming a 90% capture rate in the top mat, that is 44.6 GRAMS (>1.4 troy OZ) in the top mat! So from a strictly financial perspective, it doesn't make sense for MOST people (And doc basically says this on a few videos). But, if your goal is to just catch the max gold, and are doing it for the fun of it (like most of us are), it may make sense.
      You should run your own experiment -- during your cleanups, clean the mats separately and weigh the gold separately. I would love to be proven wrong (would make me feel better about my extension purchase LOL.) Best of luck, happy prospecting, and thank you for watching my channel!

    I bought the gold hog stream sluice back when he was on Prospectors radio when it first came out.. He had 25 of them at cost and free shipping also... I only paid $225.00 for it... anyway I also live in Virginia and you know how the rain has been here this year so in order for a stream sluice to work you've got to have water flow.. and luckily for me I found free aluminum on Craigslist.. so I made my own header box for it.. now my stream sluice transforms into the Raptor.. Lol.. I even made the reverse ramp riffle for it.. I also extended it by 20 inches to allow for the reverse ramp riffle to work.. hopefully you will see it in 2018 when I join the Central Va gold prospectors Club And you're so right about any gold hog products, definitely not toys...

    Thanks for the review AU79 its always nice to see independent reviews of Doc's stuff and pretty much always the same results, great equipment a great company and their customer service is unbeatable! I'm not paid to advertise for Gold Hog but I'm a believer after using it and all my prospecting friends and I swear by it and one thing about Doc he's never satisfied and is always coming up with better ways to catch gold. I've had my Piglet and extension a year now and LOVE IT! Doc builds some amazing equipment I only own Gold Hog equipment now and it all works as advertised no matter how much dirt you put through it. I have a Viper Pro Flare, Piglet w/Extension, Stream sluice, Hog Pan, Gold Hog matting in another stream sluice and its all top notch stuff we catch the super fine glacial crushed gold up here in Alaska with it.

      I agree, gold hog is good reliable stuff... but there are other intriguing options on the market as you will see next season =)

    Another nice video. I agree, it's one hell of a high banker. I usually go out alone or with my 10 year old son. This is a great unit for me to carry in. Plus it's a killer on the fine gold, which is what we have out here in Utah.

    Just got mine. I run with a 3000 gph and did a test with the paydirt I got in the purchase of the piglet. No losses on gold.

      It doesn’t lose much at all :) what it can lose are specs of flour gold (it captures most of it though!

      I have a big marine 90ah battery. If you dig/store paydirt and run it all at once you can run all day (just turn it on when running). If you casually dig slowly paydirt wont quite make it a full day.

    • The design is good but it could be better
    • The top drawer would have to be longer, 30 centimeters more with less inclination since the water does all the work and the floor of that drawer would have to be all wire from highest to lowest and below he puts a reinforcement with wires of 1 centimeter every 5 centimeters and below, and you put a sheet of stainless steel or an aluminum sheet that grabs all the gold that falls by gravity of the woven wire that is up that way you get more gold
    • You also have to have an anchor to the floor with nails to fasten it to the ground.
    • Another thing that I would do is a tap to regulate the water pressure in case I want the water to run faster or slower, that gives me the possibility to know what flow of water I need to do the washing of gold.
    Another thing I would do is the water propeller, I would do it with a motor system with magnets to do more wash with clean and continuous
    Energy infinite energy to wash gold anywhere without the use of batteries or fuel engines.
    • And if you can not manufacture a magnetic motor you can contact Tesla motors to make those innovations and you can sell sophisticated innovations to the whole World

      The gold hog system is famous for its matting for sure - no arguments that is amazing. The rest of it is quite good - but I'm sure version 3 will be even better =) Doc seems to be quite the innovator so we'll see if/when he modifies this.

    • @cjsoutdoors4412
      @cjsoutdoors4412 7 років тому

      muhd tarmizi syafie I use what Doc recomends on the piglet when using an electric pump, and that's 3800GPH Bilge pump. He said you can get them on Amazon for about $60Bucks. I got the Seaflow brand and it looks like it the exact one he's got for that price. The Rule 3700GPH Pump is going to cost you a lot more! Like over $100 bucks!..

    • @AU79Prospecting
      @AU79Prospecting  7 років тому

      I use a rule 3700 gph pump - exactly what doc recommends

    Gold hog mat looses gold period. The design is ok but can't run for long especially with only 3 feet. If you run for more than half an hour it starts loosing too much.

    • @AU79Prospecting
      @AU79Prospecting  7 років тому +4

      I have heard this before, esp in dredge setups... But I am speaking about my experience and after a year of testing, I have to disagree. After running 100 bucks of clay rich material and constantly testing the fine and course tailings, and finding barely a spec here and there, with little to no gold in the bottom 12 inches, I just don't see where these losses are. Now, I do run with only a battery powered setup so maybe this plays a roll. Does this hold true if you have a lot more water flow with a gas pump? I don't know. But when tuned in, the mats seem to perform well. I have yet to see video evidence of a poorly performing gold hog mat that has been PROPERLY dialed in.

    • @deadheadprospector
      @deadheadprospector 7 років тому +2

      If it's tuned correct the only way your going to start to lose gold is if the mat is so full of gold and there's no more room left. I run my A-51 on the end and a pan after that. I find very little gold in the A-51 and virtually nothing in the pan. I usually run for about four hours. Using a 4000 gph bildge pump.

      the only time Ive every seen large amount of gold loss from gold hog mats was when there was more gold than there was lines to catch it, almost 2 ounces in the Mutli Sluice with washer mats,,, any and all setups will lose gold if it isnt properly set up and ran correctly then continually monitored I run for almost 5 hours at a time before a clean out may be nessary

      I run the Piglet also with the extension and an 3800GPH electric pump. My losses are practically zero with that setup using Docs Mats. His mats are the best Gold catchers in my opinion. I also use a start and stop method when running 5 gallon buckets of material to save battery juice. I just place a small tray under the sluice to catch any gold blowing out, but I've found that there is virtually no gold blow out. Those mats catch just about everything, especially when using the extension.
