Edelkrone StandPLUS - An In-depth Review - 2023

- Опубліковано 11 бер 2023
- As fast as it was announced in 2016, the Edelkrone StandPLUS disappeared just as quickly. With many of Edelkrone's youtube comments wondering if it would ever see the light of day, it finally made it's resurgence in March of 2023. Today I do an in-depth review of the StandPlus, and if it can replace a tripod for professional and corporate videographers, as it's marketed at home content creators.

This is awesome. I have a bad habbit of buying stuff then watching reviews but I was essentialy looking for a quick deployment tripod and they are a pretty penny. This popped up and knew it was the one. I do videos of cars I work on so I need to get quick B roll shots since I also dont want to sabotage deadlines. Usually I'll have my employee hold my gimbal but then I pull him from the job. Im just hoping it works well on my floor since i have that ribbed Racedeck flooring. If anything will hold it more in place.
Great review! Very thorough!
Super helpful review - thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! I like the concept. It looks like a quick way to set up a locked-down second camera for an interview, then have it available for certain b-roll shots. But I already have 4 tripods as a solo shooter, so it's hard to justify right now...
Oh I get it. I have many as well. I feel like this is something I will use around the house to start creating more content for my personal brand. I did use it yesterday on a commercial shoot as a second angle and it was lightning fast to depot and get at the right level. Curious to how I continue to utilize it going forward. Thanks for the comment!
Which maintenance is more efficient when comparing Glide Gear OH 100 and StandPLUS for vertical shooting?
I have been using this for a few weeks or more now. I got mine from Edelkrone. The biggest plus I see is that it eliminates the setup pretty much . I have tripods but for a quick b roll this is great. I have a cheap pan attached. That allows me to quickly rotate the camera 360. Great detailed review
The time savings of setup is what makes it worthwhile if you are on flat surfaces. Any instances where it’s annoyed you to bring this instead of a tripod?
@@Robert.DeCorah I have a nice tripod if I travel. The reason I prefer this to the tripod is quick adjustments of shots in my studio. It takes 3-4 seconds, and I have a quick release setup on the stand permanently. So it’s plug and play
Good addition to a support arsenal, could be very useful for a number of things, but not a replacement for a tripod, just an addition.
Well said Tom. Just another tool in the belt!
@@Robert.DeCorah a very cool tool.
I just bought one so I hope it works out good for my workflow. Thank you for the review.
how did it go?
@@AndresArosemena Its nice, bit heavy, but works well. I'm not too happy about the steel balls on the bottom of the unit because they don't allow for good smooth movement. Other-than-that, it's an impressive piece of kit.
@@lshep9728 awesome, thanks for the reply!
I think my biggest problem with this stand is the whole tilt thing. So many of my clients want things shot vertically these days, I was really interested in this stand until I realised it wouldn't be possible :(
Great video btw and thank you, going to subscribe and watch some of your other videos :)
Thanks for watching! You could always get a L bracket for your camera, that way you could mount it vertically. You could then screw a quick release plate into the standplus, and then quickly switch between both orientations.
@@Robert.DeCorah yeah that would defo be the workaround, thank you 🙂
thank you, decided :)
Thank you for this review - just what I was waiting for - I saw the product launch and it looks great in the video but I really wanted to see someone with some expert knowledge try it out. I am going to order a Standplus today. Thorough and helpful video, many thanks. (Mortimer Rhind-Tutt, Q26 Ltd)
Did you ever give it a try?
Yes - I bought it on the same day that I watched your video and have found it very useful. Your excellent video review helped me decide, so many thanks for that. @@Robert.DeCorah

What head have you mounted on the manfrotto?
How can you level the camera if you were on don’t even ground? Like tiles.
Hi interesting tripod ivread most ofcthe reviews looking for tilting camera vertically . I noticed some suggestions by adding another heads . Can you please make a nother review video about the head part possible attachments ? That will help alot of us to make a decision to buy it confidently 😂
Oh man, that point you made about how regular tripods make it difficult to set up shots and as a results I've been lagging with my content really resonated to me and now I really need this tripod. I'm actually going to get it now. Thank you. I've been putting off content because I've always hated setting up the tripod so this thing really something that I needed.
Glad it helped! It’s definitely a game changer for content creation. It doesn’t replace a tripod for me on professional shoots, but it allows me to just make content.
After putting out the video, Edelkrone reached out and offered anyone who buys the StandPlus a 10% discount using the link in the description!

Oh, and Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much for convincing me not to add this overpriced gimmick to my collection. I was thinking "oh i can get a smooth vertical pan from almost floor level to head height in one mechanical motion AND do overhead shots for cooking?" NOPE. Too good to be true. Your review was great. I guess there's no real solution to the vertical movement unless I actually buy a cinematic tool like some type of track? My friend is a boxer and he wanted me to shoot a shot for his promo where it starts at his boxing shoes (closer up) and the shot rises vertically until it's at eye level. I guess I could try to jerry-rig my camera to a vertical PVC pipe with a slider or something to keep the shot/motion in line.......
I just ordered it as feel I will use it so much compared to my tripods. Can you tell me if you have tried your slider on it yet. how does this work. can you give us an update, thanks. good video
can you tell update?
What other options do we have for uneven surfaces ? I need something for top down shots
A Rocky Mountain c stand with boom arm could get you there as probably your cheapest option, unless you could secure to something overhead. My guess is that if you are on uneven surfaces, you probably aren’t working indoors.
Thank you for the review. Would you say this product is suitable for vertical shooting?
It definitely is. You just need an L-Bracket to mount it and you’re good to go!
@Robert.DeCorah Can I use a smartphone holder instead of L-Bracket to mount high-end smartphones?
This has been a very helpful video… When I 1st opened mine I got mad because it slumped while trying to do over the head shots. I believe the lens was to heavy for it. I’m going to try rightening it, if that works, we’re in business.
As long as it’s under the payload limit, you should be just fine! Fingers crossed for ya!
Is there a way to tighten the elbow (friction) on this stand? I have the flex tilt head and I could easily adjust the tension/friction with an Allen wrench which they/edelkrone included.
@@jkpinpdx You can adjust each elbow with an included allen key
Thanks. I guess it is exclusively for indoor utilization due to the lack of any way to level the camera if the underlying surface is not flat. Correct? Thanks, Stefano
That is correct. The only way to circumvent this is to get a ball head that you can attach to the 1/4 20 screw so that it can level independently from the stand. Even then, you would want a flat surface for the stand itself to sit on. There is also no lock mechanism o prevent it from moving, so you would not want to use it on any sort of incline either.
Also, thank you for watching!
I got this in 2 hours ago and wanted to like it… but the metal rollerballs are extremely loud and let out an ungodly screech anytime I move it around on my tile floor. Nails on a chalkboard screech x10. I could normally deal with this… but it is crazy LOUD. Even a family member asked me not to move it around. Expected more for the premium price tag.
Sorry, just seeing this. I wonder if a piece of metal or something got trapped inside the ball bearing housing? Did you ever figure it out? Mine did not make any noise, and I'm sure they would replace it if you reached out. Curious to hear if the problem persisted?
Hi :) I am wondering about the camera being way lower than the man's face in the picture starting your video. I rekcon that he will look down at the viewer with this angle? And I wonder if StandPLUS with it's 154 cm be high enough for tall people standing up while filming? What would you say?
That's a good question. It would definitely be below eyeline, but I think any talking would be done sitting down so that you are looking into the camera at eye-level. I guess if you have to stand to talk it is not ideal if you are tall, but I can look into it further.
Thanks for this video. Well detailed.
Now I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't add manual locks to friction points.
Has any other brand created an alternative yet?
Sorry for the late reply. Just now seeing this. There was a chinese manufacturer that made something similar, but it's not as clean or streamlined as the StandPLUS. That said, it did have better caster style wheels that made moving it around outside much better. They sent me one, but I don't think they started selling it in the US yet.
@@Robert.DeCorah could you tell me brand please, thank you.
Just ordered it, can you suggest a GOOD PADDED case for it? Also any idea on maybe some rubber FEET COVERS? 🤷🏻♂️
I haven't traveled with it, so I don't have anything in particular I can recommend. I just fold it up and put it in the corner.
can you tell update?
Hi! I can't seem to use your standplus link. I would like to support you since I am keen to get it but the link does not seem to work presently.
I just tried it and it worked for me. Try checking out and using "AjaxMedia" as the promo code! Thanks for the support!
I’m sure the vertical option will be coming in the next version
Thank you for your extensive review! My frequent use case is to photograph hundreds of specimens in showcases in exhibitions and museums. Since the specimens are on shelves at different heights using a tripod is really tedious and so the StandPlus seems a good solution for this, right? Unfortunately these showcases have shelves from 0 to 70“ and the standplus max height is 60.2“ and the specimens should often be photographed from a higher position. How could the height of the StandPlus be increased? What would you recommend? Thank you for your time and expertise!
Anything you do to increase the camera height for the taller specimens, will subtract that same amount from how low it can go. So if thet are 70", and you want to shoot them from slightly higher, than you would want to add 14-18" to the stands height. This means that if you put the standplus as it's lowest setting, add 14-18" to that number. Would it still work for what you do if that were to be the happen?
@@Robert.DeCorah Thank you for your quick reply. I think I could live with a higher minimum height. What would you use to increase the height?
@@olivierr01 What camera/lens combo are you using? Is it heavy?
@@Robert.DeCorah nikon Z6 (664g) + Macro MC 105 (630g; or other lighter lenses). I often do focus stacking, so it should be stable…
@@olivierr01 maybe if you try adding something like this between the StandPLUS and your camera?

Coming in hot with the review! Still sad you switched to Sony tho :(
Haha. Sonys been a game changer for me as it made me feel more creative. Probably just a mental thing. This could have been done so much better, but with a baby at home at the time, it is what it is hahaha
Can your shoot vertical with it?
Yes, if you get an "L Bracket" for your camera to hold it vertically. They're very cheap on Amazon.
@@Robert.DeCorah cool if I buy one I’ll use your code. Thanks chief! 🫡
Yes, but how do it match against a monopod, Which this seems to be in competition with.
I personally do not see this as being any competition for a monopod. This is mainly aimed at videographers filming themselves or getting locked off shots. A monopod would never be used without your hands always on it and the camera. The StandPLUS is meant to be set up and left alone so you can be in the shot. Monopods are not perfectly stable either for longer takes.
I bought it 2 Weeks ago - and boy this is different. But once you understand what the (ingenious) concept is, it starts blowing you away.
a Tip for the colleagues: you may try to combine it with the other head Edelkrone makes: the flex tilt - and if you are wanting to drive this even further-try the SmallRig Rotatable Horizontal-to-Vertical Mount Plate Kit (at the moment Sony only)with it.
Great tips/ideas! I highly agree that by adding something between the stand and the camera makes it much more versatile if you have the weight to spare!
I use it with the head one and a manual pan head. So it allows me to shoot 360 in a tight corner for moving shots
Will this be good for real estate?
I wouldn’t recommend it. It could be used, but could also be more cumbersome when having to move it around between floors than a standard tripod.
@Robert.DeCorah thats funny cause I was at a shoot last weekend and a lot of times it felt like I needed this instead of the standard tripod but thanks for your input
@@juanargueta5988 If every house was wood floors and one level, then this would be perfect. Carpet and stairs it becomes cumbersome

I’ll “stick” to my tripod. Intrigued by it, but not practical for my use cases.
I've realized that I prefer my tripod when on location, and doing anything typical production related, and I prefer the StandPlus when I'm doing social content stuff.
@@Robert.DeCorah , I can see this being used in my classroom to help me shoot tutorial videos for my students and my UA-cam channel. But, the price point and instability of micro movements are my two major concerns. 🙂
This is nothing more then a gimmick! It contains the same amount of metal, does the same thing as a tripod. Nothing more then a very expensive gimmick, NO THANKS!
