    Phil is a living legend. He could sing from his couch and he would still knock it out of the park. Sure he is older and has mobility issues but he’s given his body to his music his whole life and now must sit. Big whoop. He’s still amazing.

      He is a living legend and I love his music. It's sad about his mobility issues and sadly he can't sing like he used to he sings in a lower octave. Would be best just to retire a living legend then play old hits that sound much worse than they should.

    • @gary9432
      @gary9432 6 років тому +2

      He had to change some of the "octaves" for some f the songs from the Genesis live in Rome tour" . does not mean he should retire ( that was only 11 years ago ) Brilliant concert !!.Do not forget he's just come off from a bad case of depression / & Alcohol abuse he will get himself back together. He should never retire.A true musician never retires especially since his fans ( all over the world ) still want to see him on stage. I went to see this particualr concert in Paris on June 19th 2017 a day after my birthday. I did shed a tear he has been my inspiration all of my life in music , it was sad to see him the way he was but the crowd still loved him & that Mr Stonley is what it's all about.

    Saw this show a few weeks back in Oakland Ca. So cool to see Phil and his son having so much fun. Everyone singing along and sharing a memorable evening. Thanks Phil and band. LOVE to see the Older statesman out there still performing and lighting up the crowd like Phil and his crew did for my wife and I. CLASSIC Phil!

    Phil’s voice still has that incredible timber( like Sting and Winwood). 45 years of drumming will ruin your body. Phil drumming history defined rock and pop for years. Howard Jones wouldn’t have had a career without Phil.

      He's actually a pretty legendary drummer. Very technically gifted jazz trained drummer.
      He was inspired by Ringo Starr, so he always did have a slight preference towards heavy bellicose and simple drumming despite his skill and talent.

      It's not just the drumming, Its also the alcohol, also the touring, probably also the psychological hammering being that big of a star for so long must take. Not everyone his age struggles like he does, it just sucks that it had to be him.

    Nobody is a "bigger" Phil Fan than me. I'll go head to head with anyone to make my case on that point. I will say though, seeing Phil tour seated throughout most the show and singing this (one of my favorite Genesis songs) transposed down 3 semi-tones from the original key is heartbreaking. Between '78 and 2007 I've seen him live 9 times… from up close in a small venue in San Francisco playing drums (only) with Brand X, to 5 Genesis tours and 3 solo tours, I feel like over a 30 year period I've seen the full spectrum of Phil. Along with Elton John's work between '70-'75, Phil's recorded works served as the soundtrack of my life and will shine forever in my mind, but to have him go out and tour like this is just sad.

      I'm not… I didn't get past the first minute of this one. Not saying "Phil Sucks"… he's got plenty of haters out there, I'm not one of them (or didn't get that from my comment?)… I'm a life long fan. Phil went into retirement a number of years ago… not only should singing musicians be able to do that, the smart ones choose to before they can no longer perform up to the standard that made them famous. Sorry you can't tell the difference between Phil then and now.

    • @ceetee21
      @ceetee21 6 років тому +1

      I agree. I've also seen him perform with Brand X, Eric Clapton, The Phil Collins Big Band, Genesis, All of his solo Tours. Not to see him play drums is not seeing the real Phil collins.

    • @macmasks
      @macmasks 6 років тому +3

      I'll always be thankful that I got to see Phil drum and perform live. One of the greatest drummers and the performer that "made me" (not just inspired me) to play drums - though I didn't go lefty. I'm so happy that there are videos available of most of his performances. He is so under appreciated as a live performer. The haters just know his pop, soundtrack and ballads from the radio. I bet they have never seen him perform. Seeing him stationary, singing from a seat is hard for me, but I still love Phil more than anyone. What gives me a smile with this is seeing him on stage with his son behind that classic, white Gretsch concert-tom kit. I don't have kids and that still chokes me up to think about. Still, I need to go watch Hand-in-Hand from Serious Hits Live now.

    • @DavidLazarus
      @DavidLazarus 6 років тому

      James Powlett - No matter how heartbreaking it might be to see Phil in this condition, we have no right to ask him to retire. If he wants to continue touring and writing music, he should do so. It's his life. People telling Keith Emerson to retire due to his hand injury is what ultimately lead to him committing suicide. Keith was doing what he loved. The only thing he ever knew. Telling him that he should stop playing was like telling him to stop living.

  • @mjethier

    Let me start out by saying I absolutely LOVE Phil Collins...I love his music...and his understanding of what is it to be a musician and entertainer. But I will also say that arguing he is a god among men in his field is giving too much credit. He definitely has a mastery for reverb with his sound technicians and figuring out some of the most unique sounds possible, through digital manipulation. Saying he is the best of the best on drums and or singing is just incorrect. Unique and awesome no doubt...but if you don't understand what people sound like BEFORE a sound-man does their trick...then you shouldn't be commenting.

      Jason Speth if you look into it, it's been a long process based around the recent change of public opinion on Collins. He has had a long time to reevaluate his music career, and his family and friends have encouraged him to return to music.

    • @jasonspeth1865
      @jasonspeth1865 6 років тому

      CKT1138 Of course they've encouraged him... it's all about the dollar signs. Phil seemed pretty content on being retired. Just like countless other bands from the sixties and seventies there's money to beade on nostalgia. This band isn't bad, I'd rather see Musical Box if I want nostalgia. Just my two cents....
