Grandma would cut up round steak and cook them in Sunday sauce all day long. It smelled so good I can still smell it and she left us 45 years ago.
We used top round too! The Grosso’s love a bargain. To the point they would all keep ziplocks in their bags for left overs no matter where we were. This is our recipe nearly to a T but we lovvveeee garlic in our Sicilian family so it’s always like 30:1 garlic to tomatoes. The taste of home in a dish, manga!
I love that you are such a softie when it comes to your heritage, when you say the name of the dish in your native language it sounds a bit romantic, even though the best Italian dishes were improvised by someone's Mother. Always a good thing. Thanks.
Brava Laura! Nearly identical to how my Neapolitan father taught me to make it. He forgoes the cherry tomatoes but now I'm gonna have to try that when I make it this week. As a Neapolitan who grew up abroad and is currently living in Milan, this is great comfort food. Sometimes simple is best, this is the case here. Looking forward to more Neapolitan recipes!

My mom made this frequently but she added green peppers and onion and also cut up potatoes. I like your recipe much better and plan to make it that way. Always had Italian bread for dipping. Thank you for the memories!

Ahhh Laura... my mum makes this a lot, and she uses girello beef. It comes nice and tender and is the best. We tried something the last time we had it, my we actually put the black salty olives in the sauce! Turned out delicious. Give it a try!

i would cut up the meat using a pair of kitchen shears - saves your knife and pan and is much easier!
