  • Muscadine Grapes: The BEST Southern Grapes.
Muscadine grapes are hands-down favorites my favorite. Muscadine grapes may be bronze or dark purple or black when ripe. Muscadines have thick, tough skin, making eating raw fruit similar to eating a plum. This fruit is exceptional for making jam, jelly, juice, preserves and a variety of amazing wine. Muscadines can be found in North Carolina. Growing up in NC, this was our end of the summer treat. Muscadines are ripe, seasoned and ready to eat - August through September. “No you can’t have none of mine-Muscadine”

My grandpa was a county extension agent. He lived in a subdivision but on the back fence of his property he had a muscadine vine. They were Baptists so they didn't do any muscadine wine but my grandma would make muscadine jelly, or as my family called it "Manna from Heaven." My two grandparents on that side of the family passed within a month of each other (hard times) but in the cleaning out of their house we discovered a treasure trove of stored muscadine jelly. It was a very sad day when a couple of years later the stores of muscadine jelly ran out. But now I'm married and got myself a big house and I'm starting a muscadine vine to revive the tradition. It's just too good!!!!

Florida boy here. I got these in my backyard and I get so excited like a lil kid in the summer when they pop up. An acquired taste but now I love them man. I have both the green ones and the purple ones but the purple ones are so much better imo. I get thousands of them on my pergola and we all just sit under it talking shit listening to music having drinks and playing cornhole while eating these by the handful

He is very delicate about discarding the seeds and skin. Very informative!

Grew up in Georgia. Muscadines were everywhere in the woods around our neighborhood. I loved them. My dad would make wine out of them every year.

Yaas! When I first tasted the dark one yesterday, it put me in the mind of a wine.

I'm not native to North Carolina and so discovering this beautiful variety of grapes was very exciting. That was 7 years ago, and i've been enjoying them ever since. I agree that the skin's texture is similar to that of a plum and so is the flavor. I eat the skin of these grapes for the same reason i eat salmon skin; this is where the nutrition (your body craves) is found. As for the flesh, it is far more flavorful than that of the boring "seedless" variety of grapes found in the supermarket these days. Thanks for reminding me to pick up a pint or 2 today, because they'll be gone in a few days until next year.

They grow all over the south East. I’m in Alabama and we’ve been eating them for several hundreds of years. Muscadine wine is a delicious wine. Also can make jelly and jam with them. BTW … if you find a seedless muscadine… run! It’s been messed with and is not healthy! Yes… the seeds are very bitter. The deep purple ones are my favorite also. We also have a variety of muscadine called a scuppernong. They grow in higher elevations here in Alabama where I live. They are really good and really sweet! Eating them Is kinda like cracking pecans to eat fresh… it’ll keep ye busy!😂 but well worth it! A real treat!😂

I remember as a kid going to my grandparents house and picking these... We would play and eat them straight off the grapevine. Same with their mulberry and pear tree.

I only tasted them once. I had lived in South Carolina for a year when a coworker went on and on about going to get some muscadines after work. I had never heard of them. She acted like I came from another planet! She brought me some of the bronze ones. They were different. They tasted ok but not something I'd go out of my way to get. I'm back in Western NY now and if they grow here, they aren't in stores. Now you make me want to try the black ones and see if I like those better.

Those grapes are so good. Most of them have four seeds. You can eat the under skin, like you do artichokes. Delicious.🙂👍💕
