Thank you for publishing this. I loved it and, as an avid DIYer, I can relate to every minute of it.
The ridiculous problem to solve (a washing machine in a well).
Annoyance at the person who threw the washing machine into the well.
The brilliant and thrifty DIY solution concept.
The optimism as you start your project that 'it won't even be that hard!'
The excitement as the project goes underway.
    The satisfaction of progress.
    The small snag.
    The quick fix.
    The failed quick fix.
    The cursing.
    The broken tool.
    More cursing.
The minor failure of the DIY solution.
    The quick fix.
The mosquitoes and the waning daylight.
    The budging.
The major failure of the DIY solution.
    The madness and frustration.
    The cursing.
The indifference of the washing machine and the well.
The baffling situation of the washing machine suspended in mid air.
Cursing the bastard who threw the washing machine in the well.
    Cursing nature, itself.
    The self doubt.
The realization of the FUCKING PIPE.
    The rage.
    The deflation of your spirit.
    The sunset.
    Damnit.

I love this. I'd watch your show on TV. Building a similar Greek crane here in rural France to shift a replacement timber wall into position...And I expect I'll break into French like you did starting around 13 minutes in.

Hey kiddo, next time, try a tripod made from some timber poles, you can ax down right fast, lash the tripod together with some rope, put it over the center of mass, yo can still use your winch by attaching it to two of the poles....simple to set up, simple to tear down. I love that winch! Your setup was tippy, towards the load....a tripod can postion one suporting leg on the opposite side of the load....with a pulley just below the center of a tripod is strong as heck and distributes the load for you

Good idea, good start. One may consider a A-frame vertical, to wider axle , the attach a A-frame horizontal for the base. Then one could anchor base or add ballast weights. Oil field pole truck for example.

Yours will probably work better. My old winch is too worn out and gets locked up, and I should have used a better pulley

  • @TheFurriestOne
    @TheFurriestOne 3 роки тому +1

A metal bracket or reinforcement plate might keep the idler puller from busting off the top once you have the winch re-bushed. For all the difficulties, it worked okay up to the point that the pipe caused it to fail. Not bad for worn parts!
I just noticed you have a partial aluminum extension ladder like mine, at least I think it is, going by the missing rung where the dogs to hook into the missing other half take up the spot where a rung would be.
I have some aluminum rods from the snowmobile bogies I took apart, maybe one of them could fill the spot.
In a pinch, a 2x4 would work as a step, but I'd like to do something more permanent.

Reminds me of the movie "Flight of the Phoenix" where they had to manually winch aircraft parts in the middle of the desert to construct a new plane out of the parts of their crashed plane. Only thing I observed would be, you might want to construct a box for counterbalance weights to lift heavier objects. Good job!

    Lady, I enjoyed this video.
I was concerned that the crane was going to come crashing down and it didn't. So, in that, it was a great success.
I will send this video to my wife.
I'm sure she will like it, too.
We are both getting on in years and I'm looking for a crane solution to lift 100 lb bags of cement because somehow it's harder than it used to be. :)
But the problem is, or rather, one of the problems is, having a crane in the front of the house. That's a no-no, as I'm sure you're aware.
Yours might work if I can get it to lie flat until it's needed. Something to work on.
Oh, and I ENJOYED the swearing! :)

That mobile crane looked pretty good. What part on it broke at the top? Was it just the 2x4 the pully was attached to? Was that washer attached to something else inside of the well or was it just getting caught up on the walls? They got that thing in there, so I assume it fit at one point, unless the walls shifted inward a bit from time/ sediment.
