That is a lifelong dream of mine--to visit Chawton cottage and Chawton House! The first Austen novel I fell in love with was Pride and Prejudice, but after reading them all, Persuasion remains a favourite.
All I can say is that I am totally jealous as I will never get the chance to visit one of the greatest authors homes of all time maybe even the best female author ever hopefully you enjoyed it love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤
I can't decide between Persuasion and Pride & Prejudice as my current favourites, but I've just started reading Emma for the first time and hope it'll be a new favourite!
This was SO LOVELY! 🥹🥰 You need to read The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner now! It’s so good and it’s set in Chawton. Also, I hope you kept that bonnet! 😆
The interior of the cottage looks surprisingly modern, even with the necessary renovations taken into account. Jane Austen has taken many of my literary firsts, and she has remained a favourite author for 15 years. My number one has to be Mansfield Park, closely followed by Persuasion (which I read after watching your review many a year ago), but I have a soft spot for all six novels, really, each for different reasons.
So lovely, thank you for sharing! My favorite has to be Pride & Prejudice, but I've been listening to the Persuasion audio-book this week and have been enjoying it so much!
Beautiful video, Claire! 👏☺📚💕 Only read Pride and Prejudice so far but recently bought all the beautiful Jane Austen Wordsworth Editions, so that situation will be rectified shortly!!! 😜
To be honest I don’t think I clicked that I’d done that while editing this video at 1am 😅 I was just too excited to press publish! I think because I was talking about her life and walking around her private rooms it felt more intimate. In an academic essay or professional piece I’d 100% agree but in a personal video documenting a special day, I think she’d let me off.
What a delightful tour of Chawton. Thank you for taking us with you 😍

Don't you think its problematic to call Jane Austen "Jane" colloquially all the time? That wouldn't happen to - say - Shakespeare or Poe, would it?
