Thats how world champion powerlifters deadlift. He's doing it on purpose. Not saying it's biomechanically correct, but it is how you lift the most weight.
No it's not. Go watch ipf world's from last month. Even the heaviest lifts from the best lifters didn't have that much form breakdown. Dancer's form was shit from the beginning.
I do agree but I don’t. CrossFit isn’t the only thing that has a problem with bad form for heavy lifts near max. I think it would be awesome to have people lift properly every time but it’s not the reality.
Guys, Sam Dancer broke his fibula during the trail run prior to this deadlift event. He probably had to switch up his technique and lift more back dominantly. Hope this ends all past and future arguments about his form.
+Sifa Tulikihihifo false, advanced power lifters have a mid/upper back round. The form on the first competitor was full rounding of the lumbar also know as snap city.
+Ryan Davis mid, upper, lower... I just said rounded back. I didnt think Dancers lower back was rounded... but after rewatching it, maybe. But heck. Who am i to judge? he pulls 2x more than me.
You are right, there were indeed some reps looking beyond awful e.g. Sigmundsdottir's final attempt..... however, Sam Dancer (first guy) is well educated in powerlifting, he rounds his back with intention to do something he calls 'rounded bracing' to limit the range of motion he has to perform to do a full-lock out and get reps counted, particularly with high rep-deadlifts...
To me looked that most of them had a decent technique. after reading this comment I was expecting to see a way worse technique (some of them hitched and dancer had a rounded low back, but the rest looked okay)
Don’t worry about it! I’m a firefighter, astronaut, movie director, actor with 38475 Oscar’s, artist with 39472 grammy’s, police men, personal trainer, Olympic runner, basketball player with over 20,000 career points, and NFL player. He needs to step up the weight. I think maybe 900 pounds. The more pounds more GAINZ! Form can go out the window. He needs to arch that back even more. Genetically different! BABY!
Just finishing watching the ladies and I ain't no pro by any means but Lucas Parker's lifts were the only ones that didn't make me cringe lol. Still all the athletes showing impressive strength.
The announcer pretty much said that Parker would have had that 585 if he wasn't so technical. Which is true but then it wouldn't be a proper deadlift. Crossfit may not care about performing a textbook deadlift or your back but he does. Hitching = no lift.
I am assuming that ESPN has a contract or something that does not allow crossfit to put it on youtube until after the Crossfit games. Assuming, don't know for a fact.
Lots of people are stating that the deadlifts in this video of a powerlifting style. That's not true, given that hitching isn't permitted in powerlifting. Here, for example, is what the IPF rulebook has to stay on the topic: "Supporting the bar on the thighs during the performance of the lift [is cause for disqualification]. If the bar edges up the thighs but is not supported, this is not reason for disqualification." These pulls might be legal in CrossFit contests, and CrossFit can set whatever movement standards it likes, but let's not pretend these lifts would be given white lights at a powerlifting meet.
Longer arms help in the deadlift. Sam has some short arms where as Parker and smith have longer arms. I think it makes it easier for the latter two to keep good form with longer arms.
Without claiming to be an expert and as someone who does crossfit dancers technique looked very scary, everything I've been taught never to do (from coaches in my gym and numerous online videos including powerlifters). Parkers lifts looked good though
Anyway to know what Rogue bar they use for this ladder? I am looking at ordering the Ohio DL bar. Seems this bar has the right amount of whip I am looking for.
Why do they drop the weights at the top and not perform a proper deadlift with a totally controlled movement? This is an honest question I am only used to powerlifting standards.
They drop it at the top to prevent the loss of energy, remember they are lifting these weights with like 30 seconds rest between massive reps. They also ran a marathon before doing this lawl. No point in lowering it down when thats just gonna be even more taxing kn your CNS. The same thing happens in strongman, theyre just trying to save energy
I think that smart people won't try to go for max deadlift, or even too close, for that event. A 1rep max deadlift can wreck you for days and they can't afford it considering they have 10 or so events coming to them. Sitting in the back seat of this event to catch your missing points in murph, swim and other events would be smarter than trying to nail the first three. And as for those worrying about the video coverage, can you all remember that wednesday has always been closed off to public? When the public events start for real we'll get full, nice stream in proper quality. Stop fretting.
You CNS isn't fried immediately. You don't feel it for the most part until the next day, and that's for extremely heavy maxes on deadlift. Like 8+ plates. These guys are on copious amounts of steroids. I'm sure they had 0 issues recovering.
Good God I see the same form if not worse in strongman comps or even straight up deadlifting comps . Amazing everyone has perfect form on you tube holding their phone and not actually lifting heavy weight.
Does anyone here know which type of shoes Sam Dancer is wearing? The white with teal ones. They look like cf speed tr or nike metcons but I'm not sure and don't know this colorway. Please let me know 😁😎
now that i watch this video, i think it would have been appropiate to show the final results of every event in the movies (fittest on eart, the redeem, etc). I mean, i knew about sam dancer and his strength, but the canadian almost did as well like Dancer and he was never mentioned in the movie.
The answer is only gymnastics care about form. Athletic sand weightlifting only have rules (just like CrossFit) as long you meet the rules nobody cares how you do it. Doesn't mean you would train like that but in competition and you are doing a true max your form break - however all the work done in the gym protects you from doing damage.
ability to injure yourself? the reason form isn't important in track and field is because the focus simply isn't in form. In a 100m race, it's the speed that wins you the competition. If the competition is to lift weights, sure you can lift it, but can you lift it in the correct way? There's a standard in weightlifting because having an improper form can possibly lead to cheating or even worse, short term and long term injuries. If you're truly strong enough, why is it so difficult to lift with proper form? The proper form should in other words be the easiest way to lift the weights anyways.
***** that's true. my bad for not acknowledging that. Im not a track and field type of guy but my point is that the emphasis of those competition isn't on the form.
Form don't win competitions. Performance does. Dancer's lift would count in strongman. And let's not pretend that elite athletes should be role models for health. There is a trade-off between elite performance and general health. Was what dancer did healthy? No (his back is fine, by the way). Was it required for him to get a first place finish. You bet.
Why does everyone have to complain about hitching and dropping the bar. This isn't powerlifting, it has different rules. Would you try to tell The Mountain his 1000lb+ lifts don't count if he hitched? In strongman, like crossfit, the point is to lift as much weight as possible. I'm not even a fan of crossfit, but get over it and realize different sports have different rules, and if the weight only comes off the ground, even that's some basis for measuring strength.
Two things that would destroy CrossFit 1.usada dope testing year round 2. An actual lifting referee that knows good form and that will disqualify people for bad form
You do realize those safety standards are so idiots don't permanently harm themselves, right? Is a shitty big pull worth horrible pain and disability for the rest of your life?

Strongomongo Hasjhasj Guy was a division 1 football player, he has a video on UA-cam explaining his for. his lower back is flat but his upper back is rounded. I say whatever works he only deadlift 300 more lbs than me haha

Just because it isnt specifically listed in the rules doesnt mean it shouldn't be performed properly. 185lbs😂 that's cute. Back rounding and hitching are big problems. They should be addressed.
Hitching is not just illegal in uspl, but in every federation that existed ever. Some of these lifts don't deserve to be called deadlifts. When you hit a sticking point, you don't just get to sit backwards and pull the bar up your legs lol that's bullshit. Hitching=no lift in everyone's books except crossfitters. That's cool you guys think it's fun but the rest of the lifting world is laughing at you
Muy bien! El tipo que levantó más de 600... Pero de qué sirve levantar tanto si no hizo ni un sólo levantamiento correctamente!! Igual es su espalda...
Damn what’s up with the soft lockouts? Even on the lower weights nobody was really finishing the lifts. The judges should be the ones fixing this problem, because if the lifters can get away with this they don’t have ax
