Can we please stop using 2 cents per point. This is not the case for most situations (other than some first class travel). Amex is worth typically 1.15c (for Delta) or less. Chase is usually worth 1.5 cents via united or chase portal.
You can get 2 cpp booking through partner airlines, but it does take work and some flexibility. Value your points yourself and disregard the "2cpp" that's mentioned here
You can stop using 2pm whenever you want, others who get on average 2cpp by leveraging airline partners (usually the partners of the airline ur flying with ei virgin Atlantic for delta) and hotel partners like Hyatt
Amen! The Points Guy and Nerdwallet use 2cpp because their business model relies on convincing enough people to sign up for cards that banks pay to sponsor. For everyone else, you get 1-1.5cpp depending on what you are redeeming for and how.
I don't spend much on gas so I don't need a dedicated gas card. When I do pay for gas I use the IHG Premier card. It gets 5X which translates to 2.5X based on points valuation.
There’s another potential downside to booking flights through a portal that you didn’t mention: if your flight is rescheduled to cancelled or whatever, you now have to deal with the portal group instead of the airline directly. Everytime this has happened to me, I’ve had better compensation quicker and better resolution from the airline directly.
Another good gas card is the Wells Fargo Autograph at 3x and no annual fee. It will be particularly good if it ends up getting transfer partners next year.
I like sams club credit card. It gets 5% back on gas everywhere including sams whose gas is already sometimes 15 cents less than other gas stations depending on the club. The cash back is only available to use against your Sam’s club purchases but that helps with grocery spending for sure.
@@Lawrence_McKnight yeah I totally get that. For me it works because I had a long commute to work and I have two kids under two years old, so it was nice to use that sams cash for free diapers, wipes, or formula every now and then.
Costco does this too. I use to buy Sam's gas but found my car was running rougher. When I joined Costco, I started using their gas. Much better quality for my 10 year old SUV. I finally let my Sam's membership go after 25 years. BTW, my Costco is right across the road from Sam's so distance didn't matter. YMMV
I feel like as long as you're not a high spender the Citi Custom Cash would win most of these categories, especially when paired with the Rewards+ and the Premier. My ideal setup would be like three or four Custom Cash's and those other two cards plus a double cash for good measure.
Love the Wyndham Business, but it is becoming worthless for redeeming efficiently at mid tier hotels. I saw a hotel's receipt after I redeemed for 15,000 points (-10%), the franchise was only getting $45 from Wyndham. No wonder hotels want double these days. At least I live close to Nevada, I get better bang per buck hitting a Caesars restaurant.
Great review! I just wish the Points Guy would have included the C1 Venture X and Savor One duo. With the 2x back on everything for the VX, all the multiple categories from the Savor One, and its ability to transfer cash back to the VX into miles it's a no-brainer and hard to beat.
Good DP. So they added 4x for online shopping, which since the points are only worth like 0.5 cents per point, I guess other cards are viewed as more valuable, but ymmv
@@_CookieJAR_ yes, Savor One or Bilt would be better, if you eat out a lot. Also I would consider upgraded Amex Business Gold, with $135 effective AF, which also has useful 4x gas category. But Amex is a coupon book.
I think you should have done a Kudos vs The Points Guy by doing a demo of Kudos recommendations power. Then personal commentary on the winner and your alternatives.
Capital ones customer service is so bad it’s ridiculous. I’ve had a capital one card for almost 20 years only because it’s an anchor card for history. Would never consider them again after the way all my interactions with them have been.
This dude and sebbie are so boring now. So corny nowadays. There are more entertaining folks in the space now. I keep trying to give these dudes more chances, but I can't sit through a whole video anymore.
@@fulim226 I get that and they are. But they just need some extra sauce. Brian Jung started after them and has 10x them in growth, along with views. His videos are just are more engaging. Cause let’s be real, most of us that watch the videos are already savvy on the credit card game space and they are just regurgitating stuff we already read on doctor credit and other forms like Reddit. Sure they will get new people to the space, but most of us watch to support.

But you can get potentially 20 cents per point transferring to partners for business or first class if you spend 500 hours researching and searching!!

4:25 Technically incorrect, as of end of March 2022 the Citi Double Cash earns ThankYou points. 😁

I thought about that… but, I don’t want to lock the money in Sam’s/Walmart purchases.

It was easy for me to get the Wyndham business credit card. I just applied for it and got it. I didn’t need to send any tax returns.
Bilt has no annual fee and gives you cellphone protection ($800/yr), and if you pay on the 1st you get 2x points.
10:05 also Citi Custom Cash

No blue cash preferred for groceries? 6% cash back pretty good
He covers it at the start, The Points Guy disqualifies cards like the BCP that give pure cash back and not travel points.
Didn’t they add online shopping to the Hilton Surpass card. That would be 6x travel points for that category.
Good DP. So they added 4x for online shopping, which since the points are only worth like 0.5 cents per point, I guess other cards are viewed as more valuable, but ymmv
No love for the Aspire given for air flights. If your including the Surpass for gas the Aspire has a place for air travel
Great info
i love your advice. But, this is overwhelming for most of us. is there a way to simplify all of this?
How about Savor card for dining? 4x plus Uber One.
It’s 3x unless you pay AF or were grandfathered in

@@_CookieJAR_the savor card is the AF one, savor one is no AF, plus Amex gold had a higher annual fee so it’s definitely comparable
Let the credit card master wars begin!!
Im tired of Bilt pts missing in most scenarios.
Hey Im trying to plan here 😂
I think you missed a category. Did I miss Hotels? Capital One is 10x via portal vs 5x Amex gold and Chase Sapphire .
I think you should have done a Kudos vs The Points Guy by doing a demo of Kudos recommendations power. Then personal commentary on the winner and your alternatives.
The Points Guy was only right, if the Amex Gold was his highlight.
Pause on 7:43. You welcome
😂
Surpass is 6X on Groceries as well. I just devide their multipliers in half but 3X is still not bad. My surpass is my gas and grocery card.
Cell Phone
WF Autograph 3X with insurance
I feel like yall intentionally leave the savor one out to avoid talking about capital one. I'll take my savor one over a "gold" everyday

@MillisConstruction I've had capital one for about 15 years, never had any issues with customer service
@@stevenp25100 best of luck if you ever have an issue 😊👍🏻
If you have a Venture and Quicksilver or Savor One - Uber has 10X on it so it's definitely a winner for that
Everyone forgets poor US Bank lol. For travel I get 5% on my cash+ card for hotels, flights, and car rental with NO annual fee.
