I love getting a peek into obscure forms of motorsports. Tractor pulling, swamp buggy racing, lawnmower racing, etc. are all things I'd never personally get into, but there are people who put their heart and soul into it, and the spirit of competition is universal.
I’ve watched both of these guys run at “The Buck” in Quarryville, Pa. and have pictures sitting in the drivers seat of Keith’s “Super Bee”. Standing a few feet away and listening to the 14-71 superchargers whine in the pits is music to my ears. Both are great guys and class acts.
I've been a tractor pulling fan for 40+ years, and have always wondered what a side by side drag race would look like. Thanks for doing this! It looked slow on the screen, and it was slow. But it would have been spectacular to see in person, where I could see the power and feel the noise. Where else can someone see 12,000 hp unleashed for 10 seconds, and see it start to finish?
There were some stadium events in the 80s that did similar. There was even a monster truck race that started with a sled pull. And by that I mean the moster trucks started the race hooked to sleds.
@@lb9gta307 I have been looking at USHRA videos from the 80's over the past week and found some of those events. Freaky. I went to USHRA events in the Pontiac Silverdome in maybe '82 and '83. They had the original Bigfoot doing car crushing exhibitions, and super modified truck pulls. The place was packed.
On a mini we were mutliple times over 40 mph. Our fastest was 44 mph and stoped at 318 ft. Couldnt hold my head up when the sled hit at the end of the track. Was proably the funniest rides ive ever had.
I bought a modified garden tractor with a 750 Yamaha verago v-twin at an auction years ago I've become disabled since and have no market for it in my little town. My first plan was to just drive it around...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe and healthy everybody GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY
Pulling is awesome. I used to go see pulling shows every summer since I was a kid. It used to be shown on TV all the time. Not so much anymore. The engineering in these modified tractors particularly in the gearboxes to tie engines to properly match eachother is something as high tech as any in all motorsports
This is way cool to see these drivers change it up on the fly and completely tractor pull different ways.. this would make this sport way cooler to watch and would stir up the competition way more.. I love it!!
you know what's unique about these two tractors? Runnin Bear runs in the east coast modified class, with a maximum weight of just 7500 lbs, Super Bee runs with the NTPA light unlimiteds, with a weight limit of 6000 lbs, so it's definitely interesting to see two different classes compete head to head
USA pulling and USHRA did this in the arenas back in the 1990s They used Ollie Schaeffer's sled and Dave Hager's Sled Sullivans, Mike Piper, Pat Freels, and a few others ran at these events. They basically ran the sleds with no weights in the box.
Go to a big even like Bowling Green or Tomah Wi. They run 2 tracks side by side and occasionally you see them start at the same. Similar to what you have here
I think it was back in the 90's i was watching tractor pull on television one boring saturday afternoon. For comparison, they put a modern fully homebuilt turbo super charged multi-engine tractor against a 90 year old steam tractor with the steel tires and cleets. The gas tractor's pull was over in seconds but that steam engine kept chugging even when the sled had maxed-out weight on the tongue, it just kept chugging and pulled its way well past the full pull line. The lesson: horsepower is impressive but torque is what does the work. Torque figures on any steam engine are just off the chart.
Pulling is about traction. Obviously something that ways 5 times more is going to pull farther. Steam engines may have made torque but there’s a good reason internal combustion replaced them.
Well yeah......just name any area of efficiency and internal combustion out performs. It's cleaner, lower maintenance, requires less man power (steam tractor requires a crew of men), safer, uses less fuel, efficient in the cold, cost effectiveness,.....i could go on and on. There's a lot of reasons why we don't use steam anymore. But despite its modern limitations, steam built modern america.
I have done some drag racing and lots of tractor pulling. Lots of similarities but more differences. When you feel those tires hook to the track you know if you will have a good run or not.
From my point of view as a spectator it really doesn't seem to make sense to move up in classes from a fun per dollar stand point once you've moved past street trucks and farm tractors. The exception being minirods which look as sketchy as multi engine tractors.
This has been done before. The USHRA did exhibit runs during the pulling events they had. They would run rail dragsters and funny cars against each other when they was in a place big enough to run them, they even ran monster trucks the same way. It will take some searching on UA-cam, but the events were held.
There's a good reason you don't drag race pulling tractors.. they rarely go in a straight line and are not designed to travel at a fast rate of speed lol
Actually the mechanical injection is also used in Australian burnout cars. You should show the rear wheel speed at the top end and throughout the run while they only get up to 38 mph the wheels speed was way above that.
I think they could have found more interesting teams. The beauty of tractor pulling is that they use Merlin plain engines and turbines and instead they just have these to do with hemis you can see on any drag strip.
What it cost too much to put a little water on the track so we can actually see what's going on? I'll bet those drivers are just shaking their heads on the inside.
What I see is three guys that need to go on a whole food plant based diet. Please. We need to keep these folks alive so they can keep doing these cool things.
I know one thing they seem cool about is all the dust.. you know they going to be rebuilding them motors after this .. i mean dang look at all that dust they are sucking in .. Not only the reason they keep the track wet there alot more to it then just keeping the back tires gripping
Finally tractor pulling is getting the recognition it deserves
Yessirrr
@The KingNot really. "Hicks" don't have this kind of money to spend on a super like this.
Here in denmark it's the most common motorsports so it's nice to see a lot more people becoming interested in it
It has been what you mean.
@The King lol. How dose ones opnion of something make another person a certian type of person lol wtf.
Brian Lohnes is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST ANNOUNCER IN THE BUSINESS. Awesome guy as well!
I'd like to see them run without the sleds once.
lol
My neighbor used to test in his backyard and pull hole shots with his pulling tractor
It would be deadly I bet

Most really cool things are dangerous. 😉
Yeah that'd be cool

You talked about the track speed, but didn't mention how fast the tires spin at. They are spinning well over 100mph.
Yeah I though they were going to be on pavement!! That's Tracker pull drag racing, with no sled...
@@billallen4793 doing this on the pavement will absolutely destroy the tyres, they're not designed for pavement at all

Next to the semi tractor drag races this is probably my favorite episode. What an underated show.
No one:
Absolutely no one:
MotorTrend: *Tractor Drag Race*
Much love, your friends at Rev Media!!

We are talking about doing a bracket style pull next year. Two trucks, two tracks, two sleds side by side. Sounds fun.
There were some stadium events in the 80s that did similar. There was even a monster truck race that started with a sled pull. And by that I mean the moster trucks started the race hooked to sleds.

NHRA needs a unlimited class, anything goes.
@alanjrkaminski can't stop them that's why they went to 1000
Yep, because driver deaths are EXACTLY what we want to see :rolls eyes:
@alanjrkaminski i say lets extended to 1500 and then brake at 1550
@alanjrkaminski fund the extension of every nhra track and they'll run the extra 320
In other countries theres tractors witha 12v with 2 nitro engines out front.
Im not much of a tractor pull guy..but.. this is probably my favorite episode.. absolute POWER!
Oh my, Brian I think you just created a new sport. I want to see more of this.

Well back in the day monster trucks use to do this. Drag race pulling a sled, unhook, and race over some cars to the finish. Side by side racing.
Love the idea 👍
But I still want to see one go down the quarter mile.
They don't have enough fuel capacity to run 1320 feet!
Y’all should’ve had Brent bring out the ALKY galot tractors out ol son them are some mean tractors👍👍
it's difficult to race alky or diesel supers, with super chargers you have instant power, not with turbos
That was great, I'd like to see more of that. Also let them run without a sled

We compete in a work stock diesel class now for going on 5 years and it would be a absolute blast to do a race day like this at a event.
Let’s see some more pulling videos!
USA pulling and USHRA did this in the arenas back in the 1990s
They used Ollie Schaeffer's sled and Dave Hager's Sled
Sullivans, Mike Piper, Pat Freels, and a few others ran at these events.

I always found tractor pulls to be a little lack luster, doing it this way definitely spices it up a bit.
Tractor pull drag racing is the new thing
this was awesome i love tractor pulls but this is a whole new level
Back in the good old days of pulling the USHRA had side by side pulling ( Back in the 80's )
Can’t remember the last time they made a head to head
I LOVE IT!!!!! VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE!!!! GREAT VIDEO & THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
Would love to see this become a permanent race program.
TractorDrag Racing we have to make this a thing
Go to a big even like Bowling Green or Tomah Wi. They run 2 tracks side by side and occasionally you see them start at the same. Similar to what you have here
They did heads up pulling drag race back in the 80' or 90's. Though the ones I saw were the modified hot rod class.
The whole world needs to see this!!!!!
Thanks to both competitors!
They should do this all the time

all these graphics etc are awesome. nice job motortrend
I always liked watching them, especially the steam tractors.... not fast but torque = yes.
Yeah 12hp and 1,000 foot pound of torque.
0-60? Top speed? 1/4mile?
The United States Hot Association was racing pulling tractors back in the 80s.
6,000 HP to go under 40mph should almost be a crime.
Honestly I had no idea what I was looking at when I first saw the thumbnail lol 😂
I have done some drag racing and lots of tractor pulling. Lots of similarities but more differences. When you feel those tires hook to the track you know if you will have a good run or not.
Pulling is a blast. Hopefully I'll move up to a superstock truck one day.
From my point of view as a spectator it really doesn't seem to make sense to move up in classes from a fun per dollar stand point once you've moved past street trucks and farm tractors. The exception being minirods which look as sketchy as multi engine tractors.
The county fair would be a lot of entertaining this way.
How about a race with no sleds just a heads up drag race between the 2 tractors..
That ever been done?
Honestly.. tractor is amfibious vehicle.. for farm and battle machine
That was BADASS! Lets see that with other classes like the 4WD trucks or the turbine powered tractors.
In Made, the Netherlands, they have three tracks in parallel
they have triple tracks in Franklin kentucky as well, although they run them with the weird single chalk line, so not all 3 can run at once
Loving the tractor pulling content. You should definitely show some pro stock and super stock or some of the serious unlimited tractors.

Been a fan for years and always wondered why they never did heads up sled pulling, thank you 🙏🏻
This needs to be another race type!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
There's a good reason you don't drag race pulling tractors.. they rarely go in a straight line and are not designed to travel at a fast rate of speed lol
I want to see this everywhere in the country maybe the world
"2 of the best"
Doesn't look like red line fever to me
It would of been way more interesting if the sleds were left out! Just the 2 tractors 🚜💨💨💨
Just basically dragsters
Please run these with wheelie bars,no sleds and to 330ft 🥺🥺🥺
Actually the mechanical injection is also used in Australian burnout cars.
You should show the rear wheel speed at the top end and throughout the run while they only get up to 38 mph the wheels speed was way above that.
One of thr best YT videos I've ever watched!

More hp in the hemis
Those are some quality farmers tans
First time I really see tractorpulling👌
And think it was interesting.
/Sweden
So awesome, and with tractor pulling or similar the options are endless
I hope this is a new truck and tractor pull event
Loads of dust and no air filters!
In Germany the traktorpulling traktors are much bigger😂
Rather see them without the sleds running on an asphalt drag strip
They would go about 80 mph. That's all the hearing they run.
@@kylecampbell1444 Good enough for the 1/8 mile! lol
They would probably do backflips off the line lol
Yeeeeeeessss!!!!! Finally!!! Somebody gets it!! Thanks Guys!
I wanted to see them race without the sleds
Man i still believe the orange blossom special was the best looking pulling truck......rip mr gaines
This should be a national event and would be a lot better to watch the whole run without switching cameras around
Only two motors? These are baby tractors.
Very cool!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
That's crazy. I assumed the driveshaft would have to be bigger
Right down the road from me in Fayetteville, NC. Right outside Benson, NC watched drag racing there.
Should do it with pro stock or super stock tractors
Instead of pulling heavy sleds you could mount on back wheelie bar
And a new sport is born.
Can you race thrm with no trailers
Should try Mud Racing or Hook Up MRA for a video
Lets see them on a paved 1/4 mile track
Of course, the next logical step is a burnout contest without the sleds.
This is freaking awesome!

Run the tractors without the sled🇺🇸
16 thumbs down.? What's wrong with them. How could anybody not love this?
Because they just spent there life savings on a tesla thinking they made a difference to the world and then saw this going on! Lol
Oh this should be exciting! :)
My tractor can drag that sled for miles 😂
Why not see what they will do without the sleds...? 🤔
