Why only control 🕉️hindu temples, why not gurudwara, mosques 🕌 and church⛪. We have to fight for equality in a country which is 85℅ hindus. The main reason for this is secular and socialist words added by emergency in 1970s. Zuzana i think you should read hindus in hindu rashtra.

I'd like to suggest a book called 'Hindus in Hindu Rashtra' by Anand Ranganathan if you're interested. It's a small, crisp book, not more than 150 pages, where you'll learn about how Hindus have been constantly discriminated against by the state. Hard facts!

Positive discrimination can be the name of Ghandhi Ji's biography. Here's a quote from him after Hindus were massacred in the Moplah riots.
"If Muslims want to kill us (Hindus), we must face death bravely. Hindus should not harbor anger in their hearts against Muslims even if the latter wanted to destroy them. If they established their rule after killing Hindus we would be ushering in a new world by sacrificing our (Hindu) lives".
Sadly this has been the philosophy of the governments for the last 70 for the Hindus.

16:50 "Matha" is like a temple trusts administrative unite under which comes the main temple also.. where in other activities of the Dharmic fold can be conducted... In many other cases Matha is an independent unite of religious saints where the main guru resides along with his disciples

Governments of just 10 states control more than 110,000 Hindu temples. Tamil Nadu Temple Trusts own 478,000 acres of temple land. Tamil Nadu government alone controls 36,425 temples and 56 mutts; for Karnataka, the figure is 34,563. Is this what we call secularism? The communist State of Kerala has five Devaswom boards- Travancore, Guruvayur, Cochin, Malabar and Koodalmanikyam. Together they manage 3,058 temples. The communists, for whom religion is supposedly the 'opium of the masses', are controlling Hindu temples and their boards, appointing board members on their whims and fancies.
Because of this loss in revenue generation, Hindu temples are not able to spend money on what they would really like to spend money on- opening up ved pathshalas, schools, colleges, gaushalas, fellowships and scholarships, orphanages, Hindu cultural and religious centres - all things and causes other religions and their places of worship spend their money on unencumbered.
Only in India can you step aside and watch as the State appoints non-Hindus- Muslims like Firhad Hakim, Christians like Vangalapudi Anita - on boards that control Hindu temples; only here will we remain silent as temple idols are stolen, temple property auctioned, a whole temple- driven ecosystem and way of life dismantled. Assault on temples has turned into an assault on Hinduism itself. Imagine a Hindu priest or a politician controlling and dictating how St.Frances Church or the Jama Mosque should be run. If that happens, perhaps our judiciary would indeed conduct a midnight hearing, crying death of secularism.

One of the richest Hindu temples, Tirupathi, is under the control of a Christian CM of Andhra Pradesh! He has the gall to appoint trustees, and an atheist (which, in India is an euphemism for Christian) is the head of the temple board, and many members on it are liquor sellers, tax cheaters, etc. The Christian CM takes millions from temple funds and now giving monthly salaries to Pastors and Imams! This is the secular status of India. In Tamil Nadu (per Sadhguruji), most of the temple ornaments are looted by DMK, replaced by fake gold ornaments. Hindus still believe all religions are same! Such a shame.

By freeing our temples from state control the temple board can save billions of dollars and spend on providing food and education to tribal and poor people who are getting converted by missionaries by giving them food and money. It would also help to propagate the idea of hinduism in today's westernising society to protect our dharma ❤

    23:24 The impacts :
    1. The temples can run large scale charitable institutions.
    2. Money which is being used in corrupt activities will be used in charity
    3. Mosque, Gurudwara, Churches runs schools but temples does not. This will happen.
    4. State governments give freebies to win election and then use temple money to make flyovers etc. This will stop.
    5. Golden temple which is a gurudwara runs kitchen which feeds 100000 person per day. 400+ temples are capable of this but dont do.
    6. If you visit the temples in the North they are worst than a normal house because of no maintainance and renovation.
    7. Many temples which are not under govt. control runs free hospitals and food.
    8. In India any thing which is controlled by government performs worst. Thank god they have not decided to run IT industry of India.

13:30 I think what he meant was, the appointment of people from other religions in the temple governing body as the treasurer (of that temple) and other governing member (of that temple) by the government, there are examples of this happening, but the problem is not their appointment, it becomes problem when such appointee acts in away which isn't welfare of the devotees by diverting or musings the funds.
16:45 mathá : you can say it's a small temple (mind you temples can also be small) or a temple for people who follow a particular sub-sect of different sects of hinduism. Though mathás are not very common in Hinduism, people usually go to temples, Usually in a temple you can do the darshan of all different deities at one place while mathás are dedicated to one deity and a particular interpretation of that sub-sect.
23:08 I think the notion is if it's not under the control of the government of different states then its funds can be used for the welfare of devotees by funding schools or unis etc it can also financially help people who need support due to some circumstance at a certain instance of their life.
Also it's discriminatory as only the temples are taxed and under control of the government and any other religious institutions of other faiths aren't taxed and are totally free from state control,
The law of temple control was brought by the British Raj when they were ruling India, and obviously it was brought to divert the wealth for their own use and liking, that temple control law by the British Raj was only on temples and not on other religious institutions of other faiths.

Hindu temples were governed by the British authorities during the colonial era to exert their control over the Hindu population. Unfortunately that didn't change even after the independence. State governments are still extracting resources from temples often at the expense of their maintenance. While other religions were exempted from such exploitations given their minority status, Hindu temples are still struggling to obtain their autonomy.

14:11 The former prime minister of India was of the view, which he had clearly iterated in its speech, that "minorities" have the "first" right over state resources. So, in an effort to be non-discriminatory, India became a minority pandering country (You can also read the Indian Waqf act, the land that the Waqf owns in India, all this in a country that is contentiously raked up everytime for its "treatment of muslims" )
The prime minister was Dr. Manmohan Singh. The ideology is Congress`s (INC - Indian National Congress). Also the main opposition party currently. Also, the givernment in power for 60 years after India`s independence until 2014 when PM Modi`s party won the popular vote.

What will happen if the temples are lifted from government control
1: the matas( sort of like religious trusts of some the temples) or people in the communities, towns, villages and ares which contributed in buildings, maintaining and following their faith by visiting will regain control systematically because for many temple they are in place and work for the betterment of their and in few cases the general society
2: the revenue which is generated by offering cash , valuebles and land is huge in the hindu communities almost all big temples generate millions every year which will are diverted to state revenue will be used for the community and the temple
3: the temple trusts or matas can renovate old temples and rejuvinate their or other temple complex which are in bad conditions to visit even
4: they can maintain their libraries or other parts of the temple history and digitalise the manuscripts which are in fragile form to show to people and even increase staff by employing necessary to all of this with all revenue and finds are not snatched and limited purposely
5: the hindu community can also stop the covertions of thier faith devotees forcefully by bribing them will communal help and support from few other privately and ngo funded religious institutions.
But if u ask if that how can hindu communities or temples do something like this because many of them are already doing it now with all the restrictions and state control with limited funds

Sampradaya is denomination of Dharma..like shivait, vaisnava, Sakta, smarta is denomination of " Sanatan Dharma"... Sampradaya have sub-denomination like Naath, aghori panth under shivait sampradaya ( followers of lord Shiva)
.... we called this denominations as " akhada a.k.a panth" .. like under Shivait sampradaya.. have almost ( in my knowledge) 12-13 akhada .. every akhada have traditionall school for teaching marshal art, ancient purana or Veda and culture.. this traditional school's are always near or under the Tample... This traditional school's are called "Matha" in Sanskrit language and principal of school is "mathadheesh"..... For example Shivait(worshipper of God Shiva) Sampradaya have "Naath akhada or panth"... chief minister of Up / next PM of India Mr. adityanath yogi and 10th Guru of Sikhs "guru govind singh ji" is students of this "Naath panth"... Shikh's have matha sarounding "Puri tample"... And Shikh are considered as part of or denomination of Sanatan Dharma.

Equality is fine...the point he is trying to make is that...if it's a temple and while visiting a temple we buy several things as offerings to God n temple and their are certain concepts n belief related how those flowers n things should be ....so a Hindu seller even if not 100% , but he or she will have the deceny to keep those offerings clean n whatever other things are .... but if the person selling has no connection with that faith, things are going to be troublesome....
Matha is like a place where Gurus n their decipiles practicing certain way or certain deity live n learn

The major temples were the main landmark or identifier of a particular city ...in fact still many Indian cities retain their original name which is derived from the main presiding deity of that place. example Mumbai comes from Goddess Mumba Devi, Mangalore in from Goddess Mangla Devi.. so on..
Ancient India , temples were not just a religious centre but centre for culture, education, social services and even commerce
A citadel surrounding the temple was under the temple with respect to organisation of religious an cultural activities, creation of educational institutions, creation of business, a temple ritual will need flowers, incense , oil, water, clothes, .. etc devotees who want to do a specific personal worship to the presiding deity would also need such articles, hence it helped in commerce and creating business and art and crafts typical to the particular region .
Plus temples also acted as a social welfare .. example there were temples where free medical treatment was given to expecting mothers who lived within the temple land.
Devotees rich or poor would donate money, wealth , agriculture produce out of their love for the deity which was amassed as wealth... part of that was used for giving free meal to all the devotees of the temple, part of it was used for social services like in case of some natural calamities to help the victimss .
Now all these need wealth. If govenment is controlling that money and delegating only a portion of it to the temple and remaining he either puts in his pockets, or uses it for satisfying his voters by giving favours to them by subsidies, etc so that he can keep staying in power, then the functioning of the temple gets vastly diminished.
When temple doesn't have enough money to even do its basic daily/monthly yearly rituals, or repair damages and renovate structures, and not able to help people who are in need of free food or those affecte d by calamities ....then it looses the interest of the devotees to keep going to the temple... and this helps the missionaries from the west to target such people in need and assure them help but in return will tell them to convert.
2004 India also suffered from Tsunami .. and that acted as a perfect prey for the missionaries to their task , its like vultures looking for potential food
    swarajyamag.com/politics/why-no-outrage-over-conversion-of-tsunami-victims

6:20 there are four purushārts in Hinduism
    Dharmà, Arthà, Kāmà, Mokshà
    1. Dharmà : dharmà doesn't mean religion it means doing righteous & just behaviour in all situations of life without harming others in the process.
After making yourself dhārmic pursue Arthà
    2. Arthà : earn material wealth using dharmà which means don't earn money or material wealth by stealing or deceiving others earn it by righteous means
After achieving dharmà and Arthà look for Kāmà
    3. Kāmà : look or seek for pleasures using dharmà i.e. look for pleasures but without causing harm to others
    4. Mokshà : after doing all three look for Mokshà by doing meditation etc;
Why after doing all three? because you need a stable mind to do meditation and to get to a stable mind you can't be thinking about worldly pleasures, wealth etc so you need to get them out of the way by already achieving those in your life.
P.S.- these are mentioned in Sanātan as prescription not description, which means you are advised about the four purushārts and not ordered.
Now some may ask why even advice? Because if you do these, it will give you mental peace and harmony in your life.

Role of wealth in Santana Dharma, can also be explained as follows. You must be aware of Trinity:
Rather One is the male or one who manifest.....while the female is the "shakti" that is the energy in the manifestation.....
    further
    1) Bramha's creation requires strength of knowledge, and his strength (wife) is Saraswati ( Goddess of Knowledge).
    2) Vishnu needs different types resources and his strength is Lakshmi (Goddess or Wealth and resources).
    3) Shiva, the God of Recycling (I don't like calling Him destroyer), and his consort is Goddess of Energy

It's not positive discrimination, there is no discrimination here the issue is about a state controlling temples directly by appointing bureaucrats to essentially rule it. And the collection is essentially taken by the government like sort of a religious tax, and the decisions made by the bureaucrats include everything from administration to rituals to leasing properties and giving licenses to shops... etc.

  • @death_parade
    @death_parade 4 місяці тому

14:04 "Positive discrimination" EXACTLY! You've hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what the Indian state does. It does this not only across religious lines, by positive discrimination against the "stronger" (as per their perception) religion; but they also do the same across gender and caste lines. By _affirmative action_ a.k.a. positive discrimination, they have created the "Reservation System" and laws like "SC/ST act" to fight caste-based discrimination. Similarly a myriad of laws to "protect women" have been created which these days are being used more to harass men than to protect women (because these policy makers just created a draconian set of laws to protect women instead of working hard by changing the public mindset or solving some of the other problems that lead to crimes against women).
Such affirmative action, instead of bridging existing divides, instead ends up worsening them or else creating new divides. And the politicians and lawyers all benefit from this scam, they earn votes and money by further exploiting these differences.
Situation is so dire that if you are a Hindu upper caste male in India, your life can be destroyed very easily. Some of the laws I mentioned above are so draconian that the "protected person" according to that law can simply file a police complaint against you sans proper evidence and the matter goes to court, you are "GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT."
So the "oppressed person" can simply file a bogus complaint against you and the burden of proof to prove your innocence is now on you. And if you fail, you end up in prison for multiple years. I can't think of any civilized nation having such laws. Recently, a man was acquitted after spending 20 years in prison because of the SC/ST act. He lost all his land, his mother died and his family was completely destroyed due to this wrongful imprisonment, but the court didn't offer so much as an apology. And ofcourse those filling these false cases face no persecution at all.
Not saying that all these cases are false, but the more draconian a law you create, the more it is misused and the more it backfires, especially if that law is based on some "positive discrimination" principle. This is state sanctioned miscarriage of justice. State sanctioned legal terrorism (in the words of a law commission report).

Yes, you guessed it right, Temples have huge revenue and charity and State wants to control to get access to those resources and mostly use them in non-religious activities as well, like building the infrastructure etc, which should in actuality should be done by tax money which govt collects! But, they will use that money for their freebies and appeasement politics for "Minority" religions! Minorities are easily congregated to vote for particular party, thus if you manage to appease that the Religious Heads of that "Minority" anyhow, you get the bulk voters voting for your Party in Election! You don't do any good for even poor in Minority, you just appease the Religious Heads and those religious heads will preach their Followers to vote for your Party, those bulk votes play pivotal role in elections, this has been the Political Scenario in India till now!
It is all benefiting the Religious Expansionism of Muftis and Maulanas, elites of "Minority" community, at the cost of Hindus and Temples!

I will recommend you a video on 'Temple economics' whoch will make you understand how Hindu temples were integral part of economy of country and constructive development of society. Although in that video, explaining guy's sound may be little difficult to understand. You will understand vast difference between Hindu Temples and religious institutions and buildings of other religions. Video name is 'Temple economics - by Sandeep Singh - #IndicTalks'.
I think you should read book of an indian author to completely understand difference between judaism, Christianity, islam and hinduism from basics. Book name is 'All religions are not the same'. Author is Sanjay Dixit. It is available in English.
Temple is not just belief based thing. It used to be integral and very important part of economy and to maintain money flow in society. Rich people used to big donations. It kind of used to prevent rich to become extreme rich like it happens in extreme capitalistic countries like America, China, UK, germany etc.

After the temples get free from govt. Control then the money will be used for religious and good cause, also this is secondary. But the main thing which will change is that the control of govt. Officials will be over and they will not be able to regulate the traditions as they want.

I agree, as an Indian I still don't understand logic behind it let alone an outside National. J Sai raises so many valid issues in the law. Ultimately why is it that the State appionts a Temple Committee and Why does STATE take Temple money and uses it for its own purposes..... and the biggest quest of all.... i.e. the Big Elephant in the Room..... WHY is this only madated to the Hindu Temple? and not all places of worship of all religions?? Clearly seems the law wa put in place to subjugate the Hindus and force Hindus to look down... or did it have a religious conversion agenda behind it? Clearly these arguments must be aired, people must be educated in the legal meaning and ultimately a common law should be found that apply to all places of worship

24:00 In Christian majority countries, the state funds the churches or religious institutions. In India (a Hindu majority country), temples are funding the state (Hindus would have no problem in letting the government to use their money had it been a Hindu nation BUT it is not so why should Hindus be subjected to such a responsibility or coerced into it?)
And it`s not just that, some of the major temples like Tirupati (the one that J Sai Deepak mentioned) has some of its executives as "Christians" who are converts from Hindu faith. Now, would you in your sane mind think that they will promote or maintain the practices of the Hindu temple in all its faith?
It just doesn`t even end there lol. There has been cases in India where Muslims and Christians claim stakeholdership in temples just for the fact that the temples were under the many kings before India was a republic and that their "ancestors" contributed to the king`s taxes!
Now, do you get the kind of arguments that run around this issue? and not just this but anything that relates to operation of the whole country LoL. People just argue ANYTHING for the heck of it.
Oh, and the question about what`s in it for the govt to take ownership of temples right? The government in India is under control of all the assets of major temples in India coz of money since the major temples in India are very wealthy in assets and receive a lot of donations of not just money, but gold, silver and precious stones by devotees.
You can look up videos of top hindu temples and their wealth.

  • @HemRampal
    @HemRampal 4 місяці тому

    Hi Zuzana,
This is a rather long answer to your question of what would happen if the temples were left free to manage themselves. To answer this question, I feel it is first important to understand the role a temple plays in the Indian tradition. The purpose of a temple is not limited to just act as a place of worship even though that seeems to be its most prominent purpose.
There is a sharp distinction between Indian spiritual traditions and Western ones. Indian traditions are knowledge-based tradtions and not purely faith-based traditions like Christianity/Islam. "Knowledge" in this case refers to knowledge of the Self, or in other words, the knowledge of the nature of consciousness and existence. This knowledge, like any other knowledge, is something that has to be gained not by purely believing it upon hearing it, but by reasoning about it, integrating it with one's own experiences and seeing it to be true in one's own experience. This is what makes the Indian tradition so different from the Abrahamic one where pure belief in the religious dogma is enough for salvation. This is also why there are so many schools of thought in Hinduism, including a materialist one that almost exclusively focuses on understanding the physical nature of reality to understand the nature of consciousness.
There are other schools of thought as well which focus on making the mind more subtle to enable it to "understand" consciousness better. Faith in a supreme deity is seen as one the techniques to refine the mind to see the nature of reality clearly. In a way, you could put all the Abrahamic faiths under this approach. This is also the most popular approach because most people also need faith as a psychological tool to cope with hardships, to maintain a certain balance in their lives, to deal with loneliness etc. . Other approaches to refine the mind also exist such as hatha yoga, pranayama, dhyana and japa. The temperament of the mind decides which approach/combination of approaches is suitable for a seeker. All approaches are in this sense equally valid. This is the basis of tolerance in India and also why secularism, as it is understood in the West, makes no sense in the Indian context.
A temple as a structure doesn't just exist as a monument of faith, but due to the popularity of the faith-based approach, serves as the focal point of an ecosystem for all other approaches to self-realization as well. This means that if the temple is left to govern itself, various schools will come up around it which impart knowledge about the sciences, economics, state craft, arts, techniques for mental and physical well-being etc. as well as organizations for community service, because all these are seen as important tools or enablers for an individual to attain the knowledge of the Self not just superficially at an intellectual level but as a lived reality.
As to why this is important, even if we were to put aside for a moment the ultimate goal of this endeavour, purely from a materialistic perspective, I think you would agree that such an ecosystem would be tremendously helpful for the society.

If you are secular should everyone not be equal but in India only laws apply to Hindu such as marriage act , age of marriage. Our temple are under government control but not mosque church or gurudwars why. Then how can you be secular, it’s called appeasement.

    I am from Tirupati.
It's the richest temple in terms of reviews and 2nd richest temple in the world in terms of value around the world.
The Temple sits on the top of the Hill with six other hills adjacent to it and those 7-Hills belong to the temple. It was donated to the temple by the kings at that time when it was built.
For centuries Kings of the surrounding kingdom be it Tamil kings, Kannada kings or Telugu kings always donated to it in the form of gold or jewellery to the temple and no king ever dib their hands on the temples wealth,
So it has lot of wealth, most of it was stolen during British era but it still has considerable amount of wealth plus every year it gets huge donations.
TTD- Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam is a trust witch runs Tirupati temple and the Temples around the vicinity of Tirupati city which is under state government control.
Because of this it is highly corrupt and lot off jewellery has been stolen for the temple over the years by the state government officials and state government dips hand in temples wealth as well.
And every few years they will bring up the debate that these temples should give their gold & silver to the government as it would be put to better usage.
To the contradictory government doesn't involve it self with other religious Institutions and it even funds them to run their religions places.

They also appoint Christians and Muslims as temple trust head, but they don't do anything like this in case of Mosque or Church . Don't compare Indian Christians with European Catholics, they are like us we know them very well, only difference is that they are converted. I don't blame them also Government try to control Temples money Net worth of Indian temples is almost 50 to 60 Billion $ this is the main cause😂😂😂. This data is old.

@zuzana here you can think of “Matha“ as a Monastery or Monastic Institution. And Sampradaya can be loosely interpreted as Sect.
Now coming to your questions here are my 2 cents:
    1. Bharat is not secular. It cannot be. It is instead “inclusive and pluralistic”. Secular is a western concept.
    2. There is no concept of Religion in Bharat. We are guided by the principles of Dharma, which can be thought of as Values/Principles to uphold the cosmic balance or greater good. So actions (or karma) for the benefit of a family takes precedence of one’s own self. Again actions or duty towards a community takes precedence over a family, society takes precedence over community, state takes precedence over society, nation over state, humankind over nation and so on. Understanding of one’s own Dharmic Karma comes from understanding the essence of all existence or divinity. (A complex concept!)
    3. So in Bharat division of State & Church like the west is not possible because as per our philosophy the ruler must rule Bharat as per the principles of Dharma.
Coming to the issue raised in the video, certain state governments have taken control of the administration of temples in violation of the Supreme Court ruling. They interfere with the traditions of the sects, appoint non-Hindu’s in the running bodies and also use the donations given for Dharmic activities as if they were states taxes!! Hence the fiasco.
Hope this helps! My compatriots can correct me if I missed something. 🙏🏾

Basically i tell you the issue in 4 lines. In India, hindu temples revenue which governments take from them are around 10B dollars yearly. in fact its more than that. at the same time they will give this money to Muslim madrasas, christian churches but hindu temple authotity will be told that we dont have money for even puja or salary to the temple Pandit. So in india, hypocracy is at its highest level.

About your question of what will happen if temples gain autonomy, I will try to answer to the best of my limited ability.
It is important to understand that temples are not places of prayer, they function as a central pillar of society and almost function as a guild that provides for the community's wellbeing.
Here are a few functions a temple can perform if it's autonomous:
1: Providing concentrated consecrated energy space.
    2. Providing basic necessities to everyone like food (annadanam), People talk about the golden temple feeding 100k people every day, well most temples would do the same if they had the means.
    3. Education: where most schools function as a factory to keep the economic engine running, traditional education in India was aimed towards taking human beings to their ultimate potential, both materially and spiritually.
    4. The temple body is not limited to religious affairs by any means, I have lived in Sadhguru's Aashram for over a year, and there's nothing that they don't do there. From providing medical aid during covid, or even otherwise setting up free medical camps for those who can't afford it. Many environmental Initiatives are very popular, like "Kaveri calling", "Save soil" etc. I think it is a good example to demonstrate what a temple can and is supposed to do.
In the case of Sadhguru's ashram, it maintains its autonomy cause it's a private institution and a "yoga center", even tho it's fully run by volunteers.
