In 2018, right at that spot. I tracked footprints of a jaguar along the Mexican fence. One hundred and fifty feet to the South, one hundred feet to the North. Great way to begin the five hundred mile adventure. Kudos.
Your sons videos are encouraging, uplifting, and lacking curse words 💙🙏🏼 I just love it! Thank you for raising a nice young man for the world to enjoy 🌎
The Chaparral Yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei) is in the family Asparagaceae along with asparagus, agaves, joshua trees, nolinas, brodias, hyacinths, and bluebells.
Oh sweet, a Husband and a Wife. I'll give yuns a try!!! I have watched about 10 or so hikers on the PCT the last few years and some were awesome and there was real life changes going on....... I 'm praying a safe and awesome adventure together for now and always! Shalom ! from NW Montana I subbed. .....
Really enjoying your videos. My favorite this year so far. Love the scenery. You have a good combination of showing the trail and narrating. Hope your foot gets better soon.
Every year I pick a UA-cam channel to watch the journey on the PCT. Well, except last year. Some day I will make the journey, but this year I'll be right here cheering you on and enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing, and for bringing us along with you!
Great work mate, keep it up! One little piece of advice, listen to your body and don't overdo it, you don't want to bail out for an injury due to "overdoing it". The big miles will come as you go, believe me. And don't forget to enjoy every single moment of it, I am missing it big times! Benji - PCT '19 SOBO
I had the same issue with Salomon trail runners. My left foot developed a bruise along the outside edge of my foot going upwards. I think Salomon does run a little bit narrow and when my feet swelled it got to me. I developed a bad callus and had to carry a small rasp to grind it down. It took months to get rid of the callous completely. But it wasn't painful after I switched shoes. Good luck...
This is great info for those of us coming behind (start date is April 20). Hope by now your foot is feeling better and you are both well. Happy trails!
Hey...great job with the videos! Love the background music. Don’t change anything. I’ve subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to following your journey. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!
I just started watching some older PCT journals by Darwin and Dixie and excited to follow some 2021 PCT'ers in 'real' time...wishing you all the best on your incredible journey.
With the foot pain- you may want to look into how you are lacing your shoes! I had a lot of pain on the top of my foot and tried different shoes and various insoles but nothing worked. Finally went to a specialty running shoe store and they suggested I lace my shoes differently. If you Google shoe lacing for high arch or high mid foot you will see suggestions. The gist is that you don’t want the laces crossing over the top of your foot where you experience the pain. Other than that, try to rest with your feet elevated throughout the day if you can!
PCT veterans always make the point: Don't start too fast/too many miles! That's how people get injured and, just a guess, knocking out 20 on day 1 may have something to do with the pain. ~Pony, PCT 2021, April 7-Aug.7
Dad was probably correct, that appears to be a Chaparral Yucca. Pointless ups and downs (PUDS) the PCT is absolutely packed with them. 20 miles first day, awesome, break time. Water, beautiful water, just never seems to be enough. Sucks, having a foot issue throws your gait off, causing more issues. Trail Magic twice in one day is a great day. Sunrise? no more beer for you today. SAFE HIKING
Foot advice is totally subjective since everyone is different, but I found insoles with lots of arch support helped me. I’d always get it in my left arch too and it was a killer. I’ve noticed with the right insole that changing shoes doesn’t matter now as long as I have the right insole. I use Physix Sport ones and they work awesome. Look forward to the rest of your journey!
Wow some big miles straight out the gate there. I feel like your trail name should be "foot problem" considering the number of times you said it in the video!! But seriously, hope it's feeling better soon.
Carry a Tennis Ball .. roll your arching arch on it during stops .. stand and roll the ball .. sit and roll the ball ... heel to toe .. press in to force the tendons to stop contracting and relax
That was a major factor into my shoes giving me problems. 20+ mile days now 6 weeks in has been no problem now that we’re warmed up. Looking back wish we would have started a bit slower. Oh well.
If you are barefoot a lot in life you should look into zero drop trail runners. Traditional hiking boots killed my feet and then I switched to zero drop Altras and I've had no issues.
My zero drop ultras timps and 4 drop teraventures gave me arch pain that I never had before in my WHOLE life. I went back to Merrells and after the initial pain healed I've been fine ever since. It felt like a huge needle right in the middle of my foot. I do miss the wide toe box though. 😢

Dad and I are so proud of you. We continue to pray for all of you. We’re here to support you. God’s hand of protection is on you.
Amen to that!!

Remind me to take a zero day at Lake Morena campground. That first stretch from Campo to Morena with 20 miles is a brutal first day on the PCT.
Beautiful start, excited to follow your journey! Thank you for bringing us along.

Great video. Looking forward to following you all the way. I'm planning on 2023.

I choose 2 PCT channels and 2 AT channels to watch each year. Love living vicariously.
We’re watching the Wander Women in their late 60s. Have soon done all three trails

oh mom is gonna love seeing y'all drinking coors light
Great video 💯💯
Good details regarding distance, water, temperatures. Is Guthook ill-informed? How is it possible to run into dry sources without warning?
appreciate your video. Watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. What ever happened to your buddy did he ever get back on trail and finish?
See s like th heat is really kicking everyone’s butt this yr!

The temperature will differentiate so be careful
heyyyy love the videos! just curious how often to park ragers ask for to see your long distance permit o the PCT?
Is there a Kennedy lake or just in the movie with Cheryl. Strayer this PCT was. dream of mine I truly enjoy watching others walk it God Bless Always
Yes, there is actually a town called Kennedy Meadows. It's just before the PCT trail get's into the Sierra Mountain Range.
What date did you start on the PCT adventure?
April 2nd
Carry a Tennis Ball .. roll your arching arch on it during stops .. stand and roll the ball .. sit and roll the ball ... heel to toe .. press in to force the tendons to stop contracting and relax
Picked up a cork ball!
Sounds like plantar fasciatis ?
Take care of that foot!!
Not to be a keyboard quarterback but 20 mile days out of the gate seems like a recipe for feet issues. But what the heck do I know

@@tanyand Do you typically wear shoes with a lift or a heal? May be why.
Hey, stretch your calves and bottom of feet. Lots of info on UA-cam. Good luck. Keep trekking.
