      Cubase has an amazing feature that no other daw has. The possibility to manually draw the sound wave of an audio Clip. I think it's a simple but really useful feature.

    I started to make music for fun around the year 2000 with Magic Music Maker 2000 and that software had a simple but really useful feature. You could pitch the preview of the loop/sample in real time while the song was playing so it was way easier and faster to try samples that are not in tune with the current project. Like, for example, your song is in Gmaj and you find a sampled Rhodes chord lick which would be perfect but is in Bmaj or in another scale with borrowed notes with Gmaj if pitched differently.
    Do they implemented this feature in live 12 by any chance? If not I really hope they'll release an update as soon as possible...

    is the Global Scale mappable to midi controllers or automatable in any way? What about the new midi generators/transformation controls? Please say they are mappable so they can be utilized in live sets :)

    Is there any "live" component to the scale awareness? Meaning, I find that I create faster when I'm just noodling around on the keyboard. But when I find something I like the SOUND of, I need help quickly identifying what chords or arpeggiations I've created.
    Obviously need quicker music theory skills, but I've been wondering what tool can help with this flow.

      Go for it! You can! On the MIDI devices you wouldn't be able to; they will filter those notes out and into the scale. But you can always play or input the notes into the piano roll as normal.

    I wish we could get a demo of this before buying, I'd like to know if the tunings can be set to what ever I want, in case there is not a preset for it. For example 432hz. I'd also be interested to see if the tunings also change the tuning in certain plugins such as NI, Arturia pigments etc.

      I think this is going to be possible. I think it might be already, but I’m not completely sure if what I was doing was completely accurate. But it looks like once the companion site launches we can design our own custom tunings easily. If so, I’ll make a 432 tuning just for you!

      ok, so ableton has a tuning file thats just 12 tone equal temperament. when you load it, it allows you to change the reference pitch. i had the same plan as you haha i set it to 432hz. BUT scale awareness doesn't work if you use a custom tuning. For weirder tunings, that makes sense. But just changing the reference pitch, still uses the exact same chords, so scale awareness would work, but it disables it

    when you use a microtonal scale and you automate the pitch of a midi note and you slide it up a semitone: is it a standard 12edo semitone or is it a note up in the microtonal scale?

    • @Randuski

      depends on the instrument. the tuning system works by using MPE. thats how the instruments are able to change their tuning. But, as long as its an mpe instrument, like abletons devices, it would be a microtonal bend, yes

    Can you automate tunings and scales? and is it possible to make your own tunings and scales?

    • @BrianFunkMusic
      @BrianFunkMusic  10 місяців тому

      I don't think you can automate them. We will be able to make our own tunings soon, I don't know about scales though. Scales can be changed within Clips, so it's pretty much the same as automating them.

    • @JoSebastianMusic
      @JoSebastianMusic 10 місяців тому

      Thanks for a quick response! Would be cool to automate them as that would help a lot with compositions with advanced harmony such as jazz. Where what scales should be played can often change on a chord to chord basis.@@BrianFunkMusic

      @@JoSebastianMusic My pleasure, and I see what you mean. If you are working in Arrangement View, you could chop your Clips up by chord and change the scale on each Clip. Let's say I've set all my clips to F Major and linked the MIDI devices to global scale & key. Will everything be properly transposed, and scale constrained if I switch the global to C Aeolian?
    Is the global key & scale automatable?
    BTW, great channel - subscribed :)

    • @BrianFunkMusic
      @BrianFunkMusic  10 місяців тому +1

      The Key and Scale at the top of the screen isn't really a Global setting. It displays the key and scale of whatever Clips are selected. New Clips will adopt whatever it is set to. The devices will follow whatever the Clips are playing. When you hover over the Key and Scale at the top, Live's Info View calls it the "Current" Key or Scale.
      So the devices and scales will adjust to whatever the Clip is playing, as you said in your question.
      But no, these parameters are not automatable or MIDI Mappable.

    the one thing that i have wanted in ableton is the ability to have Just Intonation. which basically requres notes to be tuned differently depending on the chord being played. Logic has something called Hermode Tuning, which is pretty close to exactly that, except its based on the root note of the chord. But i've wanted to be able to make music with chords that are truly in harmony, and not 12 tone equal temperament. Buuuuuut if ableton has tunings that include microtuning, so basically all the notes in standard 12 tone, but also include all the quarter tones in between them, then youd be able to do it. it would just be time consuming to draw everything in hahaha

    PROBLEM : FOR SOME NOTES, THE RATIONAL TUNING (I tested the 12 Quintal Center C) IS A LITTLE BIT OFF. YOU CAN TEST IT BY COMPARING THE TUNING WITH THE NATURAL FREQUENCIES FROM AN OPERATOR .
    A beat effect (phenomenon when two sounds of almost same but slightly different frequencies are played at the same time)
    When configured properly , play two Opearators along, both tuned on rational tuning :
    − one via the piano roll, playing the natural harmonics notes one after an other (for ex. one note every 1/4) (I started from C)
    - the other one playing the same note C but with its Coarse Frequency parameter automated accordingly ( rising 1 step of Coarse param. every 1/4)
    Among about 15 notes I heard 2 or 3 frequencies having beat effect, showing that:
    − either the 12 Quintal Center C Rational Tuning is little bit off,
    − either the operator coarse frequency is not tuning perfectly,
    − either its a problem of sample rate/ digital inaccuracy of floating numbers..
    − either something I have not thought of, but it annoys me,
    You can call me absurdly crazy or autistic since I think absolutely nobody cares about that. But if you know an explanation I would be happy to hear it (read it to be more precise)
