The irony . . . For decades, Brian didn't want ANYBODY to hear this song. (It's a myth that he burned the master tapes, though.) He put it in a vault and forgot about it . . . until he finally had a band with SERIOUS respect for the man's genius, and they dusted off SMiLE and put together the puzzle . . . and _this piece won a Grammy for best Rock Instrumental_ of 2005!
This is Ed Sara's husband. I'm reading his memoir. What the hell is a genius. ? He writes/dictates like a highly emotional really smart fifth grader. I agree with him. Music can do anything.
Still amazing after all these years, but did U notice that the new version seems just slightly less "nightmarish" than the original version? I remember hearing around 1990 that back in the 60s Brian was terrified of his own track (which of course fits in with what U were explaining), so listening 2 them together I kind of get the idea that he may have personally toned it down just slightly 2 his own personal comfort level (which, if he did, I'd understand).
Exactly! Looks like a LOT of fun to play live! When I saw it, they had a neat trick with red handkerchiefs, spotlights, and fans, that really looked like the stage was on fire!
You know who did hear this, funnily enough? Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Dude had access to this tape when they were making Tusk. I mean you can’t really hear it on the album but there’s a little bit of Fire sprinkled in there
Actually, never mind, this isn't from the DVD. Still, the DVD has Brian and his band performing the entirety of _Smile_ live; check it out if you haven't already.
warning DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS SONG, THE SONG IS A CURSED URBAN LEGEND THAT IF YOU WATCH THIS VIDEO, YOU WILL END UP BURNING THE WHOLE HOUSE, DISASTER STRIKES YOU, YOU WILL DIE
hastobe303 sure, the wailing sounds ,the drum rolls, the circular 'decunstructed' structure, and wide scope of the sound scape? ..... granted though, tomorrow never knows didn't have fire hats, so....
hastobe303 by the way if you want to hear a more modern and better rip off , though they were very honest about it, which makes it more of a homage really, check out the chemical brothers setting sun its got a great video as well ... let me know what you think
This really isn't a rip off. Both are influenced by drugs, and then what comes along is a drug influenced song. It's not like Brian Wilson himself COPIED from the Beatles and tried to make an identical-ish song. It's just similar by your opinion, and I respect that. But, this is just him trying to express his second acid trip. Drum rolls? Is that how you determine rip-offs? Pretty sure the rest is self-explanatory. This is a complete different thing, just influenced by LSD. Nothing special, nothing ripped off, nothing else.
I was hoping for some similarities melodically or harmonically, because that kinda is the way plagiarism mainly works. One song being in the same vein as another doesn't necessarily make up plagiarism. Although in truth, I don't even hear any greater similarities in the soundscapes of the songs, but that could be a matter of opinion. If you don't listen to psychedelic music much I can see how they are alike. Mark Dufons pretty much filled in on the whole LSD thing. BW had taken acid and he wanted to portray what he experienced, not unlike The Beatles and many others. If that is a rip-off, well, then I guess I stand corrected. I'd better start erasing my own songs then... The CB song that you referred to had at least "borrowed" the basic drum track and some effect concepts (tape loops, reversed tracks) from TNK, but I only thought the beginning was really similar. It's not bad, but it's not really my cup of tea, if you were wondering.
I missed most of this video because my heater mysteriously exploded.
🔥💀
damn this song just rips you out of this world into something so dark and visceral. It's amazing.
I feel so much power when I hear this tune.

@@sarasturdevant5346Hi Ed Sara’s husband!
can´t belive he performed this live lol
The Violnists were loving it.
Awesome! I love being able to see how each sound is being made. Wow, were those musicians enjoying themselves!

I wonder if The Residents heard bootlegs of this back in the day.

What's weird is that I was listening to this song and my laptop shut off by itself mysteriously.
The most avant garde track released.
Beautiful
This won a Grammy? You have to be kidding! The guy was just having one of many bad days.
Yes it did because it's incredible and performing it live shows that even better
This feels like it's messing with my brain...
Those drums needed to be louder, more raw and aggressive. The guitar was great though.
I think Timpani's or very big drums was used.
Wow Brian Wilson goes black metal
I always thought this song sums up paranoia.
Nahgahliiv! Zi Gro dovah ulse!
Taylor Mills is so hot that she was close to catching fire 2.10.
Ha!
Check out Darian between about :33 and :37...poor guy looks like he's about to throw up!
Warning warranted for flashing lights + colors
So this is what schizophrenia sounds like.
Brian's musical version of an LSD trip.
Where is the full video of this concert ???
Released on DVD alongside the dubious _Beautiful Dreamer_ documentary. Concert is nice, tho.
Actually, never mind, this isn't from the DVD. Still, the DVD has Brian and his band performing the entirety of _Smile_ live; check it out if you haven't already.
Then where is it from?
The battery is Gideon? O.O

What if I’m homeless lol
I've listened to it and i haven't burnt the house down
its just a rip off of tomorrow never knows with fire hats
May I ask what's so similar about them? Besides them both being trippy? I can't hear it at all.
