“You can’t set limits on a limitless device”
Loved that.
Only took me like ten years to realize it. (:
People are finally realizing that we've been tricked into believing that multi-tasking gets more done, when the reality is that it actually created chaos in the way our brains and bodies work. What you said about having single tools that do one thing and one thing very well is something I've been talking about for a long time. Simplicity and singleness of focus when getting something done is definitely the key to happiness and soundness of mind/sould body and spirit.
No doubt! I got another e ink device (no cellular or apps) last month to manage my daily routine to-do's, and at first it was like "Hmm, maybe the Light Phone is redundant..." but then I remembered what it was like to have an iPhone that did 50 million different things, and appreciated the "one thing" insight all over again. (:
"Do one thing and do it well", very much like in Unix. I'm looking to go in the same direction
@@AndrewFolts what's that thing? A Remarkable or Rocketbook?
@@BillMoriarty Hisense A5 phone. It's Chinese, so you can't download apps, which was a plus in my case.
i honestly believe Jobs wanted the apple ecosystem to be more limiting all-up. He was slow to add-on features and even open the app store to certain things. The OS when he was at the helm was a much more manageable, thoughtful, and well-designed system
Freedom is hidden within boundaries! :) Also, I'm sorry about your book.... may your channel grow and provide for you :) !! liefs uit Nederland
"Freedom is hidden within boundaries!" Oooh! i love that! If I hadn't written my book, I might never have thought to start a UA-cam channel, so life always works out in the end. (:
That comment reminds me of freedom in Jesus. Same concept better love and result. God is good.
Hee Maaike. Werken alle simkaarten in deze LP2, of moet je specifiek een bepaalde provider nemen? Groet!
Lately I've been really hating everything involving social media.
While I haven't gone full dumb phone, I've moved over to a super minimalist layout on my iPhone. No social media. No YT. No browsers. Move the app store off your home screen to discourage re-downloading. Surprisingly I haven't had the desire to re-download any of those apps. To use social media I have to come home and get on a PC, a la 2007 lol.
It's been great! Anxiety is wayyyyy down, I'm calm, I can think. My phone is only used as a tool and not a mindless dopamine scrolling device. First week was the hardest. I found myself grabbing my phone and trying to open social media apps. Quickly realizing, "crap no social media," but that goes away pretty quickly.
Nice work! It's a full-time job just trying not to get sucked into social media. Sometimes I think my title should be: "Certified Social Media Resistor."
Don't understand why folks waste 350 dollars on this junk... They can just do what you did. I guess ppl have no control. I literally love having the internet at all times. I spend all day everyday learning new things. YT is great for education, ebooks and audiobooks are fantastic. This movement seems so silly to me. Wish I would've been the one profiting off this nonsense 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
@@devon9374 you're most definitely a narrow minded individual.
Welcome to the club! I had a similar story with burning out bad last fall and picked up a light phone 2 as a last ditch effort and I felt crazy doing it. Proud of you for making it through the first couple of weeks which is a tough transition, and thanks for sharing your story because content like this will undoubtedly help so many others have at least a bit more confidence in making the very scary and lonely jump to a dumbphone :)
Ha, yea, it can be challenging at first. The funny thing is, not having a smartphone actually ended up making me more connected to people. I never text anymore and always call. Plus, it's a good way to start a conversation. Like: "Hey, I have this low-tech phone and it has no GPS, can you tell me how to get to X?" People think it's funny, and enjoy helping you, as if you just stepped out of a time machine from the middle ages. (:
You still using the light phone?
I bought my light phone in April (it’s back ordered so still waiting for it to come). Watching your video is getting me ready! I’m going light for my mental health (the draw of social media and all the things on iPhone are not making things better) as well as to model low tech for my young kids (if they see me on my iPhone all the time how am I supposed to encourage them to use less tech?). Thanks for your video!
Hey Jessica! Excited for you, the Light Phone's so relaxing to own. Supposedly, they're coming out with a GPS tool in the next could weeks, so you have that to look forward to, as well. Thanks for watching! (:
Your channel is gonna blow up if you keep making videos like this. Great quality stuff.
Thanks Jon, I'll tell the algorithm you said that. (:
This is so incredible and helpful. We feel seen by you! Thank you for creating this and inspiring our step to ditch the mindless addiction of smart phones. It's amazing how much I've denied how truly bad my smart phone/constant access to social media is for my mental health. It's something I've known for years, but just have had so much resistance to giving up the convenience and crutch of it. But I think the point is not to give up technology altogether, but to just not give in to having it at our fingertips all the time. Thank you for this video- it has been so helpful! Go you!
Ha yea, I like to call myself a "tech hippy" because it's all about finding the right balance. My iPad and iMac can still be addictive, but they don't fit in my pocket, so it's a much less intrusive kind of distraction. Do a little experimenting, and you'll find the perfect mix! (:
Thanks for being real about the struggle and informative about the product. I just bought the phone and wanted to find a review that gave me some purchase affirmation--you delivered, haha.
Yea, there's no perfect solution for phone addiction, but I've really enjoyed it and appreciated all the time I'm not using it and thinking about it, ha. Have fun with yours! (:
Great content. Started watching your channel for the barefoot running videos, and shared playlist with multiple friends. Today I’m subscribing because of your transparency and honesty about your personal life. Enjoyed it! Praying that your channel blows up! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Brandon! Channel's blowing up in slow motion. (:
I’ve been struggling with the same problem. I’m stuck with an iPhone for work that’s issued by my employer. However, I just switched my personal line to a Kyocera flip phone. I can make calls or texts, and I have a camera that I can use to document important moments. I never look at my phone anymore, and I actually focus on the things that matter! I never realized just how addicted I was to my device.
Damn...that thing does look rugged, Tim! It's pretty incredible how fast you can get un-addicted when you remove things from your environment instead of trying to resist them. Glad you got more focus out of the deal. Cheers!
@@AndrewFolts Hi, this is Jane from fiercewolf, we release one new sports bottle, could you help me to test it? If so, pls let me know how to contact you, thank you in advance.

@@AndrewFolts We can only offer free sample and respect your honest review, then are you interested in testing it?
@@janejia6071 No, but I appreciate you asking. (:
I'm so glad you said that thing about multi functionality! When I use my laptop really hard for a few days, I want to stick it under my bed and use one device per task, even if that means i'm carrying 5x more things. it just makes me feel more mentally at peace.
Yea, multi-functional devices create multifunctional thinking, which makes it hard to focus. Technically the Light Phone can do multiple things, but it's relatively slow and only shows black and white, so it's inconvenient enough to keep me focused on one thing, ha!
Thank you for sharing! Your have the best review of this phone yet. Your video style is calming and enjoyable to watch, yet provides valuable information in simplistic and enjoyable way! Congratulations for making the switch! I have realized how connected I have been to my iphone and am considering making the change!
Thanks, Rachel! Still enjoying the digital peace and quiet almost six months later. Plus, they literally just added the GPS feature, which is super helpful.
Thank you for posting this. I've been looking at and dreaming of a Light Phone since the Light Phone 1. Intentionality is a big thing in my life. I want to do all I can to focus on what's in front of me... family, etc. Also, as an Orthodox Christian I am constantly looking for ways to declutter and detach from "the world." (Which may actually mostly be Google alone anymore. haha) Of course with things like this I get guidance from my Spiritual Father but, while last Spring he pastored me to wait a while, a few weeks ago he gave me his blessing and I finally ordered mine! It may ship this week!
That's great! Six months later, and the LP is still a great decision for me. Don't plan on every owning a smartphone again-they're just too distracting. Cheers to living intentionally!
Blessed. Thank you! Just heard about this device and thank you for your perspective. Great video!
Thanks, Christian. Still having fun with the LP five months later. Cheers!
Thanks Andrew, I'm going to try and pick this up.
This video was awesome man!
Thanks, Curtis! Glad have fun with the LP. Still enjoying mine six months later!
Absolutely incredible content on the light phone, the best I've seen so far. Thank you!
Thanks, Steven. Had a fun time making it, glad you enjoyed it too!
Great review! Mine's coming next week! I'm so excited!
Thanks for watching, Gena! Happy for you! (:
Awesome video bro. I too have been disenchanted lately with all the technology in my world yet have struggled no matter what limitations I’ve put in place. I’m going to take look into more minimalist products. Keep it up! Super engaging video, I can see your channel really growing
Thanks, Isaac! Yea, the LP has been a great decision. I'm now thinking about ditching my iPad too and switching to painting my comics. Enjoy the journey!
Just wanted to leave a comment to say that you convinced me! I bought a used light phone right after watching your video! Thank you! 🙏
Hey, Mae! Glad the video helped. They're coming out with the GPS feature soon, so it's a good time to try it out. Have fun! (:
Great video Andrew!
Thanks for watching, Rigo! (:
Great quality video, I felt engaged with the video the whole time. 😊
Thanks, Adrian. As always, I wasn't sure it was any good when I posted it, but then I sat there and accidentally watched the whole thing, so I had the same experience as you, ha!
Just made the leap! Thanks for the great review! :)
Yay! They're dropping the GPS feature soon, so a great time to try it out. Have fun! (:
This was incredibly helpful, thank you for sharing this thoughtful review!
No problem. Thanks for stopping by, Ellen! (:
I have always had so much trouble managing my time and I have always felt like a failure for not being able to do it but these two lines you said just put it all in perspective.
"You can't place limits on a limitless device"
and the other not exactly verbatim
"Having a world of distractions in our pocket requires so much discipline that it's a waste of energy"
It's sort of like a fight we cant win or that's just really hard to win. We shouldn't blame ourselves for it, there are other methods.
Hey Gabriela! Yea, that's true. Even if you have the willpower to resist technology, that still takes a ton of energy, so why not save that energy for making art or meeting new people (or whatever). It's pretty much impossible to live with no devices, but fewer devices definitely helps!
Awesome video! I'm glad you kept on doing videos!! :)
Thank you. Me too! (:
Dude you are my favorite UA-camr now. I watched your barefoot running videos and LOVED them. And now you make a video about what I consider my biggest problem to be. Thanks! Hahaha
Ha, thanks Bennett! Yea...social media and internet were big problems for me too, but getting rid of my iPhone helped a lot, and it's nice to have a phone that's just a phone (with a few minimal extras).
I hope something makes up for the book and sending you good vibes and thanks for the video!
I sold some copies this fall once I changed the layout to four comics per page (bringing the price down from $130 to $50), which is what I should have done in the first place! (:
Thank you! One of the best reviews, this was very helpful!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by, Paola!
Great video! Thank you for this. Considering a Light Phone myself
Still enjoying it six months later. Use it very little, but that's the whole point! (:
I've had my light phone for a few months and it's been a great lifestyle and quality of life upgrade! now I'm noticing I'm a bit addicted to my computer lol
Ha, yea. Unless you go full caveman, there’s no way to 100% avoid internet addiction. But on the bright side, at least your computer can’t fit in your pocket! (:
I ordered mine last week. Can’t wait to start my detox and new life away from meaningless distraction. Thanks!
Let the living begin! (:
How is it going?
Omg this channel is so good. Nice work man.
Thanks, Sonia. Appreciate you stopping by!
Yay, I just bought mine and I can't wait for it to come in the mail!
Good bye smartphone addiction, hello analog freedom. (:
This was my favorite review by far of the Light Phone. I really love the idea of being intentional with my devices, but I can't justify the price right now. I dug around and found an old iPhone 5s in a drawer, gonna replace the cracked screen and half-dead battery and just delete all the apps I don't want to waste time on. I just moved to a new city so having a robust map is really important for me. Curious if it will have a similar effect of using a Light Phone, seeing how it's going to be more about self-control 😅
Sweet! Yea, it's fun to run experiments and see what happens. The Light Phone price seems to go up and down. It's like $250 on eBay right now, but I've seen it go down as cheap as $125, so worth checking if you come back to wanting one. Worth noting, they added a GPS feature this year, and it works really well.
@@AndrewFolts Oooh Good advice! Ill keep an eye out for some deals 👀
😬 just realized how hard I was clutching my samsung while watching this. I may have to give this a try, even if just for my days off work. Thanks for sharing!
Yea, I started to panic when I took the SIM card out of my iPhone. But the good news is, it only took a few days for me to completely forget about my iPhone. Also, the Light Phone 2 seems to sell pretty well on eBay, so you could always buy a used one and sell it if you didn't like it.
@@AndrewFolts I will check them out on ebay, thanks for the tip!
After seeing this video I went a day without my my phone and only had my smartwatch. I felt amazing and like I was able to think so much clearly without the constant distraction.
Do you see yourself cutting out any other tech?
@@Justine338 There's really no other tech I can cut out because I use my iMac for work and my iPad for illustrating my videos. So, it's a matter of doing the inner work of maintaining boundaries-keeping all notifications off, not wasting time on social media, etc.
@@Justine338 it's not that hard, sweetheart. I've been using feature phones with 2g and 3g connectivity since 2006 and in 2021, I still use them. In 2006, there was no such thing as google play store and app store, therefore the essentials for me was there like the headphone jack and the micro SD card slot.
But since 2g phones had become irrelevant for the majority of smartphones users, I use them now as a primary mp3 device, Thanks tro their micro SD slot.
The problem with people these days is that they're to addicted to social media at a point that they don't even sleep just to see how much likes they got on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Smartphones are great devices but the people who buy them are plain stupid because they can't control their addiction
Even myself, I've been called out as someone who's weird by my friends because I use keypad phones and I don't install social media on my smartphones
Right, my idea was that... I want the option, but I would probably just opt for this on hikes, vacays, etc. (places I need to be more present) if I could afford both the light phone 2 AND a camera. LOL Alas, I have an iPad, but it's much too bulky to use as a camera IMO.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen so far…and I’ve watched a lot! I love your illustrations peppered throughout. I just ordered the LP2 and am letting friends know about it. Excited for a lifestyle shift!
"peppered" Ha, thank you! LP2 is still my only phone a year and a half later, so I hope you love it too. Enjoy the calm. (:

Great review. I feel similar about using a Linux phone: it's still somewhat slow, less apps with distractions popping up, using it less than I did my Android. But for me that is the point: healthier habits... while the Lightphone does this on a greater level with more intention to this result.
Yea, the slowness is a feature, not a bug. It's frustrating at first, but then super relaxing when you get used to it. Cheers to slow tech! (:
Love the video and your soothing voice!
Ha, thanks, Laura! It's the LP chilling me out. (:
In the first minute I legit thought you were some UA-camr with more than a million subscribers, turns out you aren't. You did a really good job in terms of production quality. Keep up the good work 👍
Ha, much appreciated! It's always fun to look back at your old stuff and think: "Woah, I really have come a long ways!"
Ha! If I hadn't been scrolling I wouldn't have found you and so glad I did. A voice of sanity in a mad world 😬. I'm off to look for my old dumb phone to give it a try 🤩 x

Heck yea! Almost a year later I'm still enjoying my LP. Probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. Enjoy!
Love this video. Been debating with myself since September on whether or not I should get the light phone... you did a great job at convincing me!

Great video Andrew!!!! I am happy to hear you found things to work for you with the Light Phone. I know its probably hard to switch full time to it especially as a video creator/creative. I am happy to hear another creator who has given this a try and decided to publish a review :). Btw if you want to come on the podcast (The Dumbphone show) and talk about your experience about it :) Let me know :D
Thanks, Jose! Turned out to be pretty easy, but to be fair, my iPad covers most of the same features. Happy to come on the pod. Actually, your videos were what originally convinced me to get the Light Phone. Feel free to reach out thru the contact form on my site: fthelines.com.
@@AndrewFolts Will do. I’ll be sending an email soon :) Also, glad I was able to help :D
Aw I loved this review, thanks for making it! I was especially tickled to immediately hear that you're a comics maker (so am I). I'm trying to come up with a go-around to use the Light Phone while keeping my old iPhone 6S powered off and in a pouch, for use as a camera and for tiny emergencies like using the Lyft or ParkMobile apps (which would make the Light Phone's hotspot capability invaluable).
Of course, I'm looking at reviews for the Light Phone instead of drawing, which might as well be the same thing as zoning out on Instagram. ;) But hey, this is useful for my future.
I hope it's continued to keep you off the doomscrolling! (And damn, the quality of this video!! It's great!! Love the little animations you added!)
Thanks, Danielle! Yea, there's no perfect device-would be cool if you could somehow have an iPhone with an e ink screen, but also a digital viewfinder for taking pictures. They just added GPS, which is cool. Doomscrolling can never fully be killed, but at least with no iPhone, it can't follow me out into nature, etc! I started browsing thru your Studio Tour video. I need to watch the whole thing. I feel like I'm going to pick up some handy art hacks. (:
♥️ i’m excited to get my light phone 2👏🏽 thank you! ✌🏽
Ooh, yay! Getting the LP was one of the best decisions of my life. I felt such a huge weight come off me. Enjoy! (:
I am actually feeling the same like you described in the beginning, so now i decided to buy the Nokia 8000 4G (thought about the flip version but then i decided against it) and i am still waiting for it to arrive so i watch this kind of videos all the time and see what are the results for other people. Nice video, keep it up.
I myself am a digital minimalist and really would like to get a light phone 2 but sadly I don't have the money to get it but felt nice after watching you give a positive feed about the same.
Hey Samanyu! You could check eBay once in a while. You might be able to get one for around $200. Also if you happen to have a smartphone and sold it, you might actually make some money going with the Light Phone. Cheers!
@@AndrewFolts thanks for the advice but sadly I don't have any spare money to spend on the light phone, so I just keep trying to optimize or make my iPhone as distraction-free as possible.

Bruhhhh I watch your channel for barefoot shoes and get a minimalist phone video too! Cool! I saw this and was shocked because not only did I go barefoot largely thanks to you, but I also looked into the light phone extensively, so seeing you talk about many of my diverse interests is amazing! Coincidence? Probably common personalities. Crazy :)
Ha, yea! Occasionally the UA-cam algorithm actually does some good. Also, minimalism tends to bring people together around the same stuff.

omg i relate to your process of trying to limit your smartphone use SO MUCH. thanks
Ha, the struggle is real.
Enjoyed the video. My iPhone is old, old, old - 5s and needs replacing. Originally thought the SE would be better for me; I'm almost 70, retired, don't need all the bells and whistles. Now I'm not so sure after researching a bit on line and seeing so many "dumb" phones as I've heard them called. I had not heard of the Light phone, not sure it would work for me. A company called Sunbeam makes some I liked but also wondered if maybe just a Trac phone would be ok. Have to consider our fixed incomes too. Anyway, thank you for for the information given and good luck with your endeavors.
The main reason I went with the Light Phone is for the e ink, because I do so much work on blue light screens (bad for the eyes). If you don't, then a basic dumbphone would be just fine.
Awesome video. Thanks a lot for the content!!
Appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by, Matthew!

Wow! That was a well thought out and engaging video with great visual content! You’ve really upped your game on this one. Kind of curious what your next video will be about and how you’l present it. :)
Thanks, Jim! Really appreciate that. Next video topic is top secret, so you'll have to wait and see, but that's part of the fun! (:
I really enjoyed this video. The pace, the concision, the illustrations/handwritten layers, and the funny examples (like when you played the fire animation on the iPhone) were great.
I've recently been frustrated with my iPhone and social media/text/internet use (I have an iPhone SE 2020). The light phone is a bit out of my budget so I looked for dumb phone alternatives on PCMag and settled on the Nokia 6300-I use Maps a lot, which is a weakness of the Light Phone, but apparently a strength of the Nokia 6300 even though the OS is slow at everything else. I like taking pictures but I find that it can distract me from the moment sometimes so I'm thinking about buying a pocket digital camera as well-like you said, I am learning to appreciate devices that do just one thing.
My Nokia 6300 is arriving this Sunday. I'm excited and will post an update of what I think in a month or so!
That's great, Montana! There are lots of perfectly fine minimal phones, I just chose the Light Phone because I work so much with screens and need every break from blue light I can get. As pocket cameras go, I absolutely loved the Osmo Pocket. GoPro's and the ZV-1 are probably fun too. Either way, glad you're enjoying the zen of "one." (:
@@AndrewFolts I hear the Osmo pocket needs a smartphone or smart device to be activated; is that just a one off thing? Or do you need to activate it more regularly? Thanks!
@@marithevanderaa5377 It's a one-time thing. There are some advanced features you can use with a phone connected, but I never bothered.

Thanks for the great video!
I feel like the things I would miss the most is the camera. Are you someone who didn’t take a lot of pictures before so you don’t miss it, or do you just bring an actual camera with you when you’re going to an event that you anticipate wanting to preserve?
Hey Dave. Yea, I just bring DLSR camera with me. The quality is better anyway. Highsense does make some e ink smartphones with cameras, though. Take a look at the A7C. Good E-Reader is a good channel for content on this.
Love your videos!
Thanks for watching, Ángel! (:
I have been watching a TON of videos just like this on UA-cam for the past few weeks considering ditching my iPhone for one of these little guys, and I've made the decision that once I save enough money I'm gonna get one
Sweet! It's given me so much time and attention back. My favorite part is just picking it up and using it for one thing, instead of getting distracted by a million apps. (:
Great video man, I've watched it a couple times now and am definitely considering the swap. Keep up the sick work 👍 Top wishes from Tasmania.

Yaaaas!! Enjoy all that distraction-free space. (:
Great video! Been looking into the dumb phone space (aka light phone market) been trying to work on discipline. Sooo I've been using focus mode with just essential settings (phone, text, music, Bluetooth). It's been going well. Trying to extend the hours I leave it on everyday!
Yea, there's lots of little tricks that can help. For a while I was putting my phone in a combo lock box. It was like phone jail, ha!
@@AndrewFolts sometimes just gotta do what works for you 😃
Before cell phones people did just fine. Smart phones are convent.
The only mod you have to make is you have to go to a computer periodically to do some of the same things and get a GPS map device of some kind.
VERY good review of the light phone you talked about more than most reviews.
"Before cell phones" Yea, that's true for a lot of technology. Also, they were supposed to come out with a GPS feature this month, but I guess they're having some problems.

great video, thank you!!
Thanks for watching Iyan! (:
Glad it worked out for you. I tried a Light Phone 2 but found the refresh rate too slow and the keyboard too small for my fingers. I'm holding out for a dumbphone with a physical keyboard. Don't know if I'll ever get one.
Yea, the keyboard is awkwardly small, but I basically never use it and they just added a voice to text feature, so it's no problem for me. The Samsung Alias 2 I showed in the video is an old phone with a nice e-ink keyboard, which might be a good option.
Take a look at the sunbeam wireless F1
And now this video makes up until 73k views. Congratz on many levels 😁
Totally did not expect it, but it was the most fun to film, so I'm glad everyone's enjoying it too. (:
Hello! Great stuff thanks. Do you know if there is GPS tracking on the phone? I want a way to know where my 11 year old is without her having a smart phone or use a silly watch.
Hey Paul! They were supposed to have added a GPS feature weeks ago, but it's been radio silence. From what I've heard, they're having a problem with the app company, so know knows.
Even when it comes out, though, I don't know if they'll be including a Find My Phone type feature. You could contact support.
Thank you for this. Question for anyone reading: I have too use What's App to connect with people in other parts of the world. Anyway to do this with a Light Phone. I'm willing to just use What's App on the computer but don't know if I can do that without a smart phone. Ideas?
WhatsApp has a desktop app you can download, so no need for a smartphone. Perhaps there's some sort of forwarding service for flip phones. Not sure.
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for dropping by, Kevin. Cheers!
Fantastic review! Thorough, informative, and well edited. I’m super close to ordering this thing but I have a question: can I use AirPods with it? Not a deal breaker but definitely something I want to know going in. Perhaps I’ll join the ranks soon, God bless!
Yea, I'd assume so, since I can use it with my Bluetooth speaker. Six months later and still enjoying it, so definitely a good purchase. Enjoy! (:
"No, I am the one who knocks"
😂 I'm saying that next time I get a spam call!
Ha! I totally should have done that when I still had the RoboKiller app. You can record messages to fake out telemarketers, and that would have been perfect!
Love this video, and I've watched it a few times. I have a light phone sitting on my table unopened. Do I open it or do I sell it? The is the question I ask myself 4 times a day...
Is the case and screen protector worth it?
Why not try it? Probably wouldn't hurt the resale value at all to use it gently for a few days. The case is worth it, although I've had it for more than a year with no screen protector. Doesn't seem to scratch easily, but I'm still careful with it.
I agree with you 100% I finally bit the bullet and ordered a light phone. I was going back and fourth between a flip phone but I really wanted the eink screen, liked that it had a Hotspot and was small, still looked like a smart phone but isn't. Idk. People may think it's crazy spending so much, but getting my life back is priceless. You can't put a cost on that. I'll take my poloroid camera around. Besides, with the way things are going with big tech companies and control, I'll step back 🤣
Yea, I mean you'll still have a computer, presumedly, which is more than enough distraction for one human being to handle, ha! I love Polaroid's. My dad uses old black and white large format camera, and there's something cool about transforming a negative into a tangible print.
@@AndrewFolts My 10 fav Android budget phone features on my Oppo a53, Nokia G10, Samsung Galaxy a12, and Redmi 9 prime.
1. No social media either since I still use 2g devices like the Nokia 210 and my old Motorola RAZR v3x ( a Hassle free experience)
2. IPS LCD screen ( no eye strain)
3. USB type C (for OTG purpose)
4. 4g ( for hotspot and fast internet connection)
5.5000 mAh battery
6. Entry level processors like the Helio G80 and Snapdragon 460 which contribute to a long lasting 3full days batteries on moderate use.
7.normal 60 Hz refresh rate (no one really cared about refresh rate when the Galaxy S3 and iPhone were engaged in a fierce battle, I still do not care about refresh rate)
8. Bluetooth 5 for flawless music streaming on my Logitech z337 2.1 subwoofer system.however my Nokia 210 isn't a smartphone, so I use wired earphones with it
9. Micro SD card slot, all my smartphones and feature phones have a dedicated slot for that.
10. 720p display, if I would need a 4k display, I will buy a Tv instead, therefore 720 p displays don't go hard on the battery
So you could see by yourself that I don't own any iPhone because I'm not even interested in fancy features like wireless charging. I use the typical wired type C cables and older 5 watts power bricks with my phones.
Concerning social media, I didn't use any social media when I bought my Redmi note 3 back in 2016, same for my LG Optimus l5 back in 2012. I still didn't give a rat ass.
@@danteerskine7678 Yea, most people have more features than they know what to do with. Simple is all you need.
@@AndrewFolts both my LG Optimus l5 and Redmi note 3 are old now, when I bought them, they didn't come with face unlock, however the Redmi note 3 had a rear mounted fingerprint and a non removable battery. Face unlock, is more of a miss than a hit, unreliable compared to a flimsy 4 digits Pin code.
For the regular user that is not into gaming or social media, a phone with a 5000 even 6000 mAh battery is welcome. After all, a phone wasn't meant to be a gaming device
Andrew, I also have verizon and was given a Light Phone 2 from a previous owner. What I am unclear about from the website and even talking to the previous owner is: can you just take your iPhone sim and swap it into the LP2 when you want? I've seen online elsewhere that you have to turn off iMessage on all devices before you swap but is it really that simple (for texts/group messages etc)?
Hey Zach! Not sure, since I sold my iPhone, but I would ask Jose Briones because I think I remember him saying he did that in his Light Phone video. I'm still getting iMessages on my Mac and iPad.
Can’t say I’d ever switch, but you make some interesting points.
Ha, yea. iPhones are convenient, for sure. It just depends on how big of a problem you have and what your priorities are in life.
Very random question. I only do strength training but now I rly rly want to get into running outdoors. I ve never enjoyed running growing up and boy is my stamina absolutely awful. But Id still like to try and get into it at least on a basic and regular level to start enjoying it. Any advice on starting would be appreciated!
I can totally relate. In high school, I loved to run, but hated "running," and I never new why. It took me years and trying hundreds of shoes to realize that cushion was like a running through a swamp-it made me tired and taught me bad form.
When I switched to barefoot shoes, and now full barefoot running, all my injuries went away, because I can finally feel the ground as I was supposed to.
If I knew ten years ago what I know now, I would start running barefoot at a local field every day to work on my form, then move to trails and roads to build up callus ( which is softer, tougher, and more sensitive than any rubber).
The key is to keep your stride very short and your knees bent. Run forefoot. Also, listen to your body, and make sure to turn around or walk as soon as something starts to ache or hurt and doesn't go away or your form breaks down and you start pounding.
If you want to run on roads and don't have anywhere safe to run full barefoot, then buy a pair of 3-4mm shoes like the VivoBarefoot Primus Lite (refurbished ones for a discount at revivo.com) or Wildling Flying Fox
I was planning on having a full barefoot video out by now, but I got sick, and I'm still recovering, so it will probably be a few weeks. Cheers!
What I love about concepts like the Lightphone, is that it’s not about going off grid, as you still have access to the world on a laptop….. but it gives your brain a rest when you’re not sat at your desk.
I’m old enough to remember the days before mobile phones and the internet. When I went into town with just some cash for a payphone to phone home to get a lift back. When you’re out…you’re OUT! 😊
Yea, so true. Feels like these days even when you're "out" you're still "in" somehow. The LP is a nice break from that. (:
Thank you! This is great. I am very interested in this phone. I have cancelled my social media for a couple years but am now looking at Pintrest- which essentially sells me products at this point. Sometimes I try to trick the algorithm, hahahahahaha. I'll be looking into this. I also appreciate your barefoot shoe videos- it's been a year now and I can't go back. My hope is to get mountain bike shoes, ski boots, snowboard boots etc in a foot friendly shape but....I haven't seen it yet. Cheers Andrew!
The algorithm is very devious, indeed. Good on you to try and foil it's evil plans, ha. And props to diving into barefoot shoes!
Love the script & transitions // Carpe Diem
Thanks! Had fun making them, glad you enjoyed watching. Cheers!
This is very neat. 3 years ago I went back to a flip phone but some how I have a iPhone again.
Do you still use The Light phone?
Cheers
Yep, I haven't owned an iPhone for three years. Here's my longterm review: ua-cam.com/video/eRTXQ1ti-5w/v-deo.html
Mine ships in October. So excited. Do you feel like the case is necessary?
Sweet, excited for you! I've gotten a lot of peace and quiet the past few months thanks to my LP.
Does it connect to like tws? And can we have offline music say from sd card , and can it record voice? And can it pair with smart watch for direction!?
It does bluetooth for headphones, but that's about it. Does have a built-in GPS app now, which works fine for me.
Just watched this. U are Awesome !
Thanks, Niet. Glad you liked it! (:
Great video, you're very articulate.
Thanks, Jamie. Appreciate you watching!
Great review. Can you tell me what brand of headphones you use for phone calls?
Sony Extra Bass. They're in that sweet spot of great quality, but not crazy expensive. Mic, as well. amzn.to/3O1lNoL
Hey Andrew. Nice video. I to am at that point. I have the Punkt Mp02 phone and I’m trying to get to a point that I can switch.
It has a version of signal messaging on which is good, it lets you do audio messages and receive images.
I am currently looking for a separate MP3 player that could work for me.
Hey Gordon! I'd look into the Hisense e-ink phones, as they support MP3 storage as well as Spotify in the web browser.
@@AndrewFolts cheers
Great video!
Thanks! Appreciate you watching, Brandon!
Ayyyyo! Got deftones on your playlist 👍
Oh hell yea. They're so good live. Saw them open for Incubus once, and I love Incubus, but Chino and co went so hard, it was on a whole different level.
@@AndrewFolts hell yes, dude, I saw them open for incubus in Dallas. Maybe same tour? It was probably around 2015 or something.
@@curtisarnold9245 Yup, sounds about right. They're one of those bands that just never turns down as they get older.
