I just saw a video clip of Cliff's dad stating that. Cliff's mom and dad bought him the bass and encouraged him to play after he asked for one because he loved that theme songs bass.
This was the song that told me it's almost bedtime & no more kid shows were on!! Listening now though, not only do I feel old but I appreciate the theme song- not bad!😏
I had the same bedtime as well. I never saw the show until I was an adult. When I heard this music it was off to bed. Still gives me great memories of my childhood. though.
This theme song inspired the Legendary Cliff Lee Burton to start playing the bass guitar. Thank you for inspiring him as he did unto me to pick up my bass again and study the economy of music. Every time I pick my bass up and jam to cliff's music for a couple hours, I'm better than I was when I set it down the previous day. Thank you, Cliff, for bringing this joy back into my life and giving me the zeal to play bass as you did and inform others of your legacy and amazing music. R.I.P Cliff Burton.
CC C: I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what that dude was singing in the closing theme song of WKRP. Decades later, a friend looked into it and discovered that it was pure gibberish. It was intended just to be a demo, that would be re-recorded later with "real" lyrics added. But the producers of WKRP liked the demo version with the gibberish vocals so much that they decided to use it as-is.
Chuck Berghoffer on Bass. He's still doing it, tours with Seth MacFarlane and The Family Guy sessions too, and I just had him in studio for a session of mine. Killin' Cat.
@@dirtlevel Incorrect - this is the full session for Season 4. Most 'old school' people remember the original which was 'flatter-toned', but then they started doing a different take for the next Season... because back then, people were listening!
@@dirtlevel Yeah I compared to all of the Season's Studio tracks. But... interesting, lemme scope that out... ... comes back... ...you know, you're right, it matches the 4th Season studio track ~almost~ perfectly on the audio signature. Quite impressive actually! Good thing that I didn't bet a paycheck on it, I'd be eating noodles for awhile!
I'll be honest I didn't even "see" them until that fateful day. That scene has been repeated so many times in the history of TV and movies that it became almost a cliche stock flat background of sorts. Now whenever I see it, either still frame like this or a moving shot, doesn't matter... My eyes beeline for the never to be shot by a camera ever again towers.
I was one of those that grew up on this as my Pops faithfully watched the show and got lots of laughs. Fast forward to being 50 years of age and learning to play the guitar 🎸, it is now added to my playlists of favorite guitar joints 👍🏾
A few seconds ago this tune popped up in my mind, for no reason. Watched a few episodes in the 1980:ies, searched my memory for the name, and almost instantly Barney Miller emerged. Funny how memories can work. I feel unusually relaxed, not sure why. In a state of flow, usually associated with performing a demanding task. All I do now is digesting a nice meal.
Wow , my daughter is sitting next to me playing garage band and she made a sound that instantly reminded me of the intro song. Especially the very start. I had to come here and listen to it. 😊 I was maybe 6 in 80 when my father used to watch this show but I still remember it 😊💯
AHHH back in the days when i was young and didnt have to worry about anything, just hanging out with my mates and having fun , those were the days, and so many great programmes to watch
I love that you can hear the whole song now. That bassline.. there's no mistaking it if you're a music lover but the entire song. the way the guitar riff comes in and then it goes into a sort of major swing tone then works itself back around to the bassline it's built off of.. just classic.
we used to plays this at parties, the singer would yell Barney, we would chorus miller, great fun and fun annoying people with no sense of humor too...
I had the privilege of meeting Max Gail while I was housesitting my sister's house. I answered the door and there he stood in shirt, shorts and tennis shoes. Great guy and a humble individual, unlike the Hollywood types of today.
Just had a hard flashback to playing on the floor with GI Joe’s and Transformers, while mom smoked cigarettes and dad drank beer and watched this show. Ah the good ol days.
Back when this ran it was the only ranked tv show on ABC and saved the entire network but I never watched it then. I have watched the hell out of it since. It is quietly a scream.
Huge Fan Of This Piece. Was In My 20s During The Series Run. Amazing Show. Loved Those Type Of Shows, Like "Night Court", With The Huge Rotation Of Guest Shots.
THIS IS THE VERY BEST = THE GREATEST TV THEME MUSIC, EVER. Reminds me that when I get to Heaven, I don't want "them" giving me a HARP, I want to play BASS!! = from Lcbs
Even as a kid, when I saw this in syndication, the theme song was something I would look forward to hearing. I didn't care much for the actual show but I would sit through each episode just to hear this at the end credits.
All these years later and I still think this was one of the greatest themes for a TV show.
Such a classic, but the fact that this theme inspired Cliff Burton to pick up the bass makes it a little more kick ass.
Really!!?
@@SonnyGTA yep
That season 3 theme is so awesome.
This and another one bites the dust

THANK GOD FOR THIS BASS INTRO
Cliff... We miss you.
Seriously, the world needs more bass lines like that. Amazing!
Lol it would be a better place if there were.
The world needs more P_rn music 🎶🎶 like this..

Almost bedtime is RIGHT! Gave me that same sickening feeling. Great times, great shows, great music. Very much appreciative. great comment.
😅
hell yeah! Original Star Trek, The Twilight Zone and Late Night With David Letterman!
Same with M*A*S*H lol
I had the same bedtime as well. I never saw the show until I was an adult. When I heard this music it was off to bed. Still gives me great memories of my childhood. though.
Thank this baseline for it helped Cliff Burton realize that the Bass is killer and that he couldn’t become the nastiest metal bass player ever.
Wasn't he thrown under the bus?
You mean "could"?
It's funny how shit is connected.......I'll never be able to hear this theme song the same way again lol but that's a good thing
@@notyourfallguydaddyorson6835 well we know who the asshole in the room is.....

Possibly the best theme song ever.Even as a little kid It really grabbed me. Now I’m 53 and trying to learn the bass line.
It is pretty good.
I am 52 & also trying to play it
Taxi Theme Song Rocks too....
Born in 69. 70s childhood, 80s coming of age. Couldn't have been luckier.
There is absolutely no mistaking the era in which this was written.
That intro bass guitar. Lol.
the 70's, baby !
80's?
Connor Grant 1970's ?
Kevin Oshiro 1960's?

The bass part is awesome 😎 but the saxophone part is legendary 😁. And of course the guitar solo is phat.
dude workin that bass right,
+YOHAN HENRY MUSiQ Yeah, he's laying it down.
agree.
Yep

My grandmother used to loovveee this theme song and we would be cracking up while she was snapping her fingers in her chair!!!🤣🤣🤣

Should have been Lars...

Some theme songs back in the day were just too cool sounding, man.
+Will Crump yeah I remember taxi..... another cool theme..... I always liked the theme to Hill Street Blues as well.

That's what real music sounds like... Not the shit we try to convince ourselves as a species is worthwhile of being called music today.

Back when TV theme songs ruled. Sad they are much better than the top song on today's top 40
Actually have the TV shows now don't even have theme music just weird or creepy jingles that are about 30 seconds long.
Facts. I loved the guitar sound
Haha

One of the greatest theme songs ever made! This intro made the show that much better and cooler...
I used to be afraid I'd blow the TV speaker out cranking it up when it came on... Got in trouble for it several times at the very least 🤣
This was my favourite show when I was 12 years old and it's still hilarious.

I love the final piano chord in taxi on the album

Night Court had a great theme song too!

RIP Cliff Burton. This song made you the best bassist in the world, and made Metallica what it is today. :’)
Arguably the best theme song ever made.
Theres no arguing about it, it is...
This one and the Sanford & Son theme rule.
A-Team, Airwolf, Night Court...all superior.
Rockford Files is a close runner
Deschutes Maple i don't like when people say "ever", it would be much more correct to say "so far".
RIP Ron Glass. :-(
And Jack Soo, Abe Vigoda, Steve Landesberg, James Gregory, Ron Carey & Greg Sierra.
One of the most recognized bass lines of all time!
Every band should start their set with this!
Heck I'm going to suggest that my band learn and perform this. Great idea!
That's not a bad thought.
Thank you for existing and making Cliff pick up the bass
