Robert, I will like and share. We've not had headlights on our Volvo c70 for quite some time. We were told by others on the internet and possibly local mechanics that we would need a new power board to the tune of $500 plus dollars. My son's friend figured out it was probably the light switch, I ordered one online and looked at your video and replaced it in two seconds!! THANKS for saving me $$$ and time! Perfect instructions.
Yer the MAN Robert. Yer videos saved my ass on more than one occasion. I have a 99 s70 and there’s no repair manuals available. Clinton/Haynes let alone the dealer. That was the year they switched over. I REALLY appreciate all yer videos. Very informative, step by step. Yer awesome dude. Yer brother from Canada. Thanks Eh!
Hi i have had 2 volvo s40s both head lights went checked the bulb thats ok checked the fuse thats ok power tested the wires leading on to the bulk showing power when connected to bulbs no power strange so on my new volvo v40 i recently brought i hit where the cem module is the light (dipped beam) came back on is this the relay? i found the relay make & part number but i cant find any where to buy this type of relay & can i replace the relay or is it a whole new cem module? thanks tim
Hey Robert, back again. When I turn the key to on position I've been hearing an odd noise behind my headlight switch. Hard to describe but almost sounds like traction control just quiet and behind the switch. Ever experience that specifically?
Very helpful thank you! Alot I wanted to take out the whole dashboard just to see whats causing the problem..thank you alot. But is it safe to do what u did without disconnecting the battery?
Hi Robert , from the back of the headlight switch on the S70 , there is a slide small white switch with 3 positions : A , B and C .. Do you know what is the function of this small white switch and what it does do ?? Thank you
I have a 93 850. Do the headlight switches come with light bulbs illuminating them? I took mine switch out, and there are no bulbs in it, but it appears that you can put bulbs in it. But I don't know what kind of bulbs they are. Do you know what bulbs would go into the switch to light up the markings?
I´ll be checking out a silver 850 -95 tomorrow. If I like it, we will probably buy it. It well be a nice complementary to our ol´ V70 .Wish me good luck :)
The dimmer on my car 960ii doesn‘t have any effect to the instiment lights. The lights still stay up. Do you think a change of the dimmer could fix that issue?
I have a 2004 V70. When the headlight switch is at 0, the headlights are on. When I set it to parking lights, the parking lights come on. When I set it to on, the lights come on as they should. The fact that the lights being on at 0 tells me the switch is bad. Right? Also, could this have something to do with the "bulb position light" message I keep seeing? I've had this car for two weeks and already your videos have been a huge help. Thank you.
Thank you Robert, you are a pure lifesaver when help is so desperately needed. Watch and listen to your instructions and advise is a delight and makes me feel hopeful keeping those old Volvos rolling for life as they should. I give you all the credit for my progress keeping the 98-99 v70s going as I refuse to give up on our much'd loved Volvo wagons.
Robert I need your help. My 98 V70 blows the headlight switch fuse every week or two. It's #26 and its15A. Do you have any ideas on what might be going on.
No but if you think that could be the cause I will try it. Someone on another site thought it was his rear window defogger that was causing the problem but it's on a separate fuse so I don't see how it could be.
Hey Robert, I have a front right running light that is out (turn signal works) and hazard lights. I replaced the headlight switch and the bulb, could it be a relay or fuse? I have a 1999 s70 Code reads CEM-000B
Yea I’m sure it’s the right bulb I use the bulb on both sides and the left works fine Right turn signal works fine The bulb light on the dash blinks when I use the turn signal and the hazards which both work fine I’m trying to read for fuses that correlate with the right running light to see if that may be the problem ?
Yea I made sure the wiring was working, I am not sure if there could be a shortage some where or something Cleaned it thoroughly Both the new bulb and the wire
It’s the same bulb as the turn signal I hope we are on the same page lol The right works as a turn signal and hazard light But is not on with my headlights
doesnt work this way on a 940.. the switch housing is moulded into the dash panel with the four rectangular switches.. no idea how to get the switch out. cant pull the knob off either.. seems glued? update: got it loose!! two flat screw driver under either side if the knob and with decent force, the knob launced itself from the dash panel. under the knob you the nut which you have to undo to remove the switch.
@@RobertDIY Thank you very much for answering me, I already managed to see how it is done. I send you a hug, happy Halloween. Honestly their videos help a lot .. I love my old volvo 960, Automatic. 1992, American version.
does anyone of you guys know if light switches in the 850 and V70 (1st gen) are interchangeable? my brother got a ´99 V70 with a faulty switch - and V70 switches are pretty hard to find over here...
Man I cant believe how many videos youve made! is there anything you havent done to a P80?! If your ever in need of a place to crash in orlando let me know! peace!
Great vid robert! This might be easier than the oild change situation on your other vid! haha I might have to try it out here...Well, I'll definately be driving to the shipping yard during the day ...just in case!
Oh dear, you left a mark on the dash when you removed the switch 30 seconds before you started filming, warm the surface with your hand to smooth the mark out first. Thats a tip so you can stop the picky people finding fault, ahh thats me ...oops lol :D That looked easy enough :-), most cars/vans i see have it built into the stalks on the steering wheel, nice to use but they dont allways make getting to them easy.
Robert DIY in Australia the headlight switch was recalled from 1997-1998 here is the link for the recall www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/955673 accc is Australian product safety recalls.

+TIMOTHY CHESWORTH hey Tim, I have no idea. A common problem with Volvo lights are the rotten wires inside the assembly.
Hey Robert, back again. When I turn the key to on position I've been hearing an odd noise behind my headlight switch. Hard to describe but almost sounds like traction control just quiet and behind the switch. Ever experience that specifically?
No but many do when there fuel pump relay is going bad.
Do you have a video on how to replace the high/low beam control module, if the switch isn't the problem?
ua-cam.com/video/gt9w-ZSxs9I/v-deo.html
I would try the headlight relay near the fuel pump relay.

Probably driving light options.
@@RobertDIY like what ?
Hi Robert, in my C70, that black plastic piece around the headlight switch is damaged. Can be removed? Thanks
With the entire dash.
Thanks Robert your information is invaluable as we own two Volvo S70 T5 autos.

+hapsblog Should be the same bulbs as the other switches. One short and one long.

klonecki Cool - ua-cam.com/video/L4g-w4OXeBw/v-deo.html
Is it as easy to do this on a 1999 Volvo S40 as it seems to be all one unit including the airvent
Just the switch.
LOL I just bought an 850 96 at auction and the switch is held in with a zip tie ? I will keep you updated
Yikes
Robert, I suspect my headlight switch may be bad. How do I bypass it or test it?
🤷🏾♂️
Just saved me tons a money. What a guy! Thank you very much!!
You are welcome
so the dimmer switch on an 850 should come out similarly?
+ivanoffw yes, it simply pulls/pushes out.
The dimmer on my car 960ii doesn‘t have any effect to the instiment lights. The lights still stay up. Do you think a change of the dimmer could fix that issue?
You're the best, Robert. Thanks (again)!

Wrong. Check your owners manual. The "driving lights" setting is on.
Bulb position light is likely a burned out bulb somewhere.

Code reads CEM-000B
Did you install the correct bulb? Dual element?
Yea I’m sure it’s the right bulb
I use the bulb on both sides and the left works fine
Right turn signal works fine
The bulb light on the dash blinks when I use the turn signal and the hazards which both work fine
I’m trying to read for fuses that correlate with the right running light to see if that may be the problem ?
Probably not. Maybe the light assembly has gone bad. Did you try cleaning the connector and bulb post?
Yea I made sure the wiring was working, I am not sure if there could be a shortage some where or something
Cleaned it thoroughly
Both the new bulb and the wire
It’s the same bulb as the turn signal
I hope we are on the same page lol
The right works as a turn signal and hazard light
But is not on with my headlights
Nice, tight explanation!
LOL

fredintheshed1 lol, just trying to help. The real trick will be keeping the phone aimed and steady.
Replacement procedure the same as a 760.
Michael Chitwood I'm not sure. Is that a question or statement?
I replaced the headlight switch on the 760. Same procedure as described in you video.
Oh, nice.
Good video, but I'd never yank on wires like that. Hold the wires when unplugging the switch.
Fair enough! Sometime it's hard to do that with my arthritis.

no problem
Doesn't work on the 850, thats not how my switch comes apart and I can't figure it out, it won't just pull out
Never mind, sorry, my switch was just so broken it came out in like 4 pieces and I just had to pull harder than I though
ok
