hello matt. your videos are really great but i can't understand you the way i want because i don't know english exactly. I'm sure there are many people who are like this. I personally live in Turkey. I wish you would add language options to your videos in the form of subtitles. If you ask me, it would be a useful move for your channel.
I love watching the building part because I always have moments like "ohh that's how he adds that part to the side". There are always little tricks that you do when you are building so thanks for including that footage for those of us that want to see it! Take care Matt!
I have stolen many design tips from Matt (and more than a couple design components as well) he has also just made me better at playing by just letting me see similar maneuvers performed so many times.
Matt, us true fans are gonna stick with you no matter what! I just like space videos! Ksp and beyond! You're a great video creator! I look forward to the future!
Practice, practice practice. Landing on Minmus will be insanely routine at a certain moment. In the more career driven save's I've set up a regular nuclear shuttle service between Mun, Minmus ore harvester and a kerbin space-station with a SSTO to rotate crew, and fuel carriers / depots to refuel in orbit. Sprinkled with some internal role playing rules that I never use my nuclear engines in proximity (or directed) to nearby vehicles to spice up the challenge. The first time I had to de-orbit and land near a surface base seemed impossible for me, but after 2 or 3 succesful attempts is just extra steps. Same as with docking, first it seems impossible, but once you get a hang of it and understand what data the game is giving to you, you do it 10 times in an hour speedrunning through them.
I remember my first time landig on Minmus 2 years ago using Matt Lowne's tutorial. Other then practice, you"'ll need dedication. Try your best. Always expect mission failures and learn from them. Trust me, with enough experience and dedication you'll eventually land on Eve and the Joolian moons.
That ”Electric Boogaloo” in the craft name was just a KILLER LOL. I always liked to name stuff that has a 2.0 or a 2 with ”Electric Boogaloo” so this just filled my need for an Electric Boogaloo :D
Agree 100%, weekly content basically turned into launching a similar SSTO every week, now Matt has time to come up with unique missions. Breaks are great!
I suppose you could literally name the planets "Kerbin L1", "Kerbin L2" etc etc. I've never messed about with Kopernicus configs before, I've only added planet packs, I assume it's not too difficult to test this?
Loved the mission and you did a great job with the self promotion. Not not too pushy, not to whiny, just right, perfectly balanced like all things should be.
7:25 so the fairing's diameter doesn't have to be increased for the lab, the engine is smaller so the tip of fairing will be more triangulated. They were very efficient you know.
It's space. It's fun. It's KSP. It's more fun. Matt, you have made exploration of the outer worlds in a video game extremely enjoyable, and I'm glad you are still producing so many fantastic videos.
Mods of note: - Principia does multi-body physics, which maybe is enough to get Lagrange points? Though stationkeeping becomes more difficult as a result. - Interstellar Fuel Switch implements changing tanks in mid-mission, and includes two tanks that can become habitats for kerbals.
Hey Matt, you don’t need to always make these ambitious, long videos every time. We would appreciate any videos, short and simple or long and complex. Whatever works for you, we will be good with.
I always find it interesting to see how one of these missions of yours come together (also funny to see the kraken pop up occasionally). On another tangent, I’m not sure how I missed the info for 2 YEARS that KSP 2 is a thing, so I’m finally getting around to playing ksp 1 myself. Should have done this ages ago
I love your KSP episodes! Especially these “lost ideas.” It’s really interesting to see plans and concepts brought to reality. Thanks again for the amazing content Matt!
It's not a perfect solution, but for "wet workshops" or converted stages, I would clip some small passenger modules into the tank. I would then drain the fuel if it was only a converted stage, not a wet workshop. Atleast in stock.
The Skylab being a wet workshop was originally because they were expecting all the Saturn Vs to be used for Apollo missions, so they were going to have to use a Saturn IB, and the also dock the Apollo Telescope Mount to it on another flight. However when Apollos 18-20 were cancelled they switched to using a full Saturn V, and then they could launch with the ATM already on. However they left the extra docking port
Was thrilled the second I read the title - Skylab was far more than people remember these days. Given it was IIRC 9m across, Starship is 12m… makes you think what might be in store from SpaceX before long. Loved the look of this station - and the little lights still looked good, don’t worry😊.
I love how he's trying to cover up his mission that "never" happened, just like the soviets in the space race! Edit: These mission actually never happened, haha! Edit 2: Please guys, Matt is keeping me a hostage. Save me.
They are orange because of the insulation. Painting it white adds more weight for little benefit the first few shuttles had white external tanks to reflect sunlight, but it was realized that wasnt needed and just added extra mass.
I mean if the orange tank is meant to have a module in it surrounded by water, it wouldn’t have Windows. The Spotlights make sense, it’s a lab, but also functions as a radiation bunker for the crew of the station.
Cool stuff bud, I've been watching your kerbal videos for a while and it's been really good. I also dig your space news, can't wait till jwst starts up proper
You say "2nd crewed expedition" in the description, i'd like to correct that it is actually the 1st crewed expedition, as skylab 1 was the acutal launch of the station
I haven't played for a long time. Just got back into it on a science playthrough. I have done career far to many times. I missed the EVA construction patch note. Time to recover those pesky under fueled landers I left around Mun :)
TFW you hit the Like button 3 seconds before Matt mentioned it. :) ... Before the _first_ time Matt mentioned it! XD ...You all right, Matt? I'm guessing your allergies were acting up even worse than usual the day you made this. I'm finding I'm allergic to just-about any clothes detergent, but not when it's against my skin. When I hang newly-dried clothes to air, something from them gets into the air and I guess my lungs reduce their oxygen uptake drastically in response. It's very much like a CO2 build-up; I don't feel anything but just can't function any more. If I try to do stuff, I get depressed. But this video ended up pretty funny! 😄👍 And that was the best reentry fireworks yet! :D
What mods do you use, other than the dlc parts, there are extra tabs to the left and one of the satellites connected to the space station folded in a way that a near future exploration dish would do.
No.1 find a near enough asteroid No.2 send a small spacecraft (maybe a hayabusa looking one) No.3 rendezvous and grab on to it No.4 bring it to low earth orbit No.5 mine it and send the sample back to earth in a heat shielded capsule
Nice design I tried a design too on another game it ended up being two big orange tanks as well in the final design. Yours does look awesome and I should record it getting into orbit as well. It won't look this nice though :D
Can u make a ship that goes to every single moon and planet? That would prolly get a couple million views and it’s the biggest accomplishment! I believe you can do it
Skylab 2 was the first crewed mission, Skylab 1 was the Saturn V that launched Skylab into orbit. I don't mean to be that guy but I've been studying spaceflight history a lot so.
@@TheStig_TG Look in the description, he says "Today, I decided to recreate the interesting Skylab II mission - and no, not the second crewed expedition to Skylab." He said the second crewed expedition to Skylab 2 yet Skylab 2 was the first crewed mission as Skylab 1 was launching the Skylab itself of the Saturn V meant for Apollo 20 before budget cuts.
I'd like to see you build these missions with Kerbal Life. That will add the steps of planning for radiation, food, water, waste, and mental health of the kerbals.
I know that you can 'sink' one component into another. Could you have put a Hitchhiker-V hab module inside the fuel tank and still be usable for the crew?
Just a short correction, but the jwst is in the earth sun l2 Lagrange point. Not the earth moon. Other than that great video.
Came here to say this.
This is correct.
Episode 73 of “people say smart things im too dumb to understand”

Just noticed that Matt named the Station “Skylab 2: Electric Boogaloo”
Lol
The crew rocket is also named as "Orannge Boi" lmao
noooooo

Me too
Just to give you an update on some KSP stuff - The Stranded episode 2 will be out hopefully next week, and episode 3 will be one week later!

I have stolen many design tips from Matt (and more than a couple design components as well) he has also just made me better at playing by just letting me see similar maneuvers performed so many times.
I LOVE THESE "missions that never were"
Pretty sure JWST is at the earth-sun L2, not the earth-moon L2 point.
I was thinking the same thing
Matt, us true fans are gonna stick with you no matter what! I just like space videos! Ksp and beyond! You're a great video creator! I look forward to the future!

Matt i really do think that the ksp content has gotten a lot better ever since you stopped forcing yourself to upload weekly.
Agree 100%, weekly content basically turned into launching a similar SSTO every week, now Matt has time to come up with unique missions. Breaks are great!
Adding objectless "planets" to serve as Lagrangian points is an idea I pitched in the kopernicus thread a couple years ago. Never did try it.
I suppose you could literally name the planets "Kerbin L1", "Kerbin L2" etc etc. I've never messed about with Kopernicus configs before, I've only added planet packs, I assume it's not too difficult to test this?

Would love to see a mini-series where you visit each base and station you’ve created. You know, do a resupply mission, maybe even give a new crew.
It's not a perfect solution, but for "wet workshops" or converted stages, I would clip some small passenger modules into the tank. I would then drain the fuel if it was only a converted stage, not a wet workshop. Atleast in stock.
Isn't there principia which models all the stuff needed to have La Grangian points?
if we keep asking Matt will finally show him playing Principia of Persia
Now that there is less KSP videos… my anticipation and excitement for them is a 100 times greater now
I think that the James Webb is on the Earth-SUN L2 point
You should have a play with the Principia mod (if you haven't already). It implements N-body physics and Lagrange points become a thing in ksp.
And the Bluedog Design Bureau mod supports wet workshops.
Glad your doing KSP again Matt

Matt, I think orange tanks are orange only because they are disposable. To be converted into a habitat they must be painted white to reflect more sun
