    Since you and Rob discovered this cave, where you able to name it? It’s so beautiful, just loaded with formations and, I hope, other than the land owner and the state, it is kept secret and protected. Thank you for such a special adventure.

    It may be a small cave,but it packs a big punch! So gorgeous!

    • @aserta

      Lots of water and basic material for the formations to grow. IMO, we got to see it at its greatest. As water erodes it, might be tomorrow, might be in a thousand years, but it will eventually collapse. It's difficult to say from the camera alone, but it's kinda shaped like this /U\ and that belly will eventually collapse. A part of it already did, Beau was sitting on it. It's a gorgeous little cave, indeed.

  • @StarScapesOG
    @StarScapesOG 2 роки тому +13

    So for those wondering, the total average growth rate for speleotherms is 0.13 mm per year. But, that can vary drastically based on the amount of water and the surrounding rock types. This can vary by year. More water = more growth.
    Edit: thanks for treasuring and being so conscientious about the delecate cave treasures, as always!

    I'm claustrophobic, so watching you go caving is hard. But I do it, and I think it's helping me. I can always pause the video and come back to it when I'm ready, and that's the key, I think. Confronting my fear in a methodical way that's totally safe for me. Just make sure you stay safe too!

      It is hard to say, as the growth rates of cave formations vary by how "wet" the caves are. This can also vary year to year. In addition, why some caves have solid doors at the enterance is to prevent them from "drying out".

    Wow! what an awesome little cave! Yes cave and bridge stalactites are similar but the formation chemistry is different. In cave formations Co2 is released in the process but in the type you see under bridges, called calthemite, exposure to Co2 in the air facilitates the reaction. Cave formations do take a long time to form, but some calthemite formations can grow as much as 2 mm per day!
