    > "unfortunately this was not non-destructive..."
has to be one of my most favorite and timeless quote of you. hard not to want to remember that phrase for possible future difficult situations. many thanks 😁

don't forget that the circular polarization changes direction when a reflector is used. Example RHCP becomes LHCP at the reflector.

You are right. I hope the designer of the POTY thought about it ;-)

I've only seen the patch by itself and those corners are specifically cut down look at the tech minds video for Immersat sat using both hijacked radio sound Helix and a patch that he made. I'm still asleep so I'm just studying this stuff but it seems like you're combining two antennas that are separate and tenants there should be a ground plane for the Helix and not what's called a slot antenna which is the concept behind the weird edges and 7mm between the two plates he separated the two plates with nylon spacers and soldered the core to the top plate and the sheath to the ground play the ground that it has to be also a very specific square size. Then for the Helix the the round back plate has to be proportional to the spacing and the number of turns of the Helix been probably the gauge of the wire or tubing you use. One guy actually found a difference between the supports that he used if he use plastic wood and if he just use them as supports or built them into the design itself he then just built them into the design itself and he used the space between the tube at the bottom and the ground plane as a way to fine-tune it so you'll see that the two of his been like split open and it's flat and so you can adjust the distance. But I never seen the ground playing and the never seen the waveguide used in there a metal tube in there. Tech nine's has a really good video on connecting with 0Q100 I like I said I'm a student new some working on my HB. Grutza.

The corners are here to create circular polarization.

Every time I've constructed an antenna (much lower frequencies) they have never performed as claimed by the designers, so this seems to fall within my experiences. I'm looking forward to the next episode to see what changes you needed to make to get the functionality you were looking for. :-)

Antennas are not simple... But a NanoVNA helps a lot.

    Hello Mr Spiess
I have heard a lot about so called QFH, Quadrifilar Helicoidal antennas.
Would you consider making a video about them? How they work? How they are wired? How we can build our own? Maybe for radiosonde receiving?
Thank you for the great videos.

I found quite a few videos on how to build them. So I am not sure if there is a need for another one...

My guess is the "lens" is made from PTFE ( Teflon ™ ).

This series is cross posted from my primary channel because it is HAM related. So he is already back and a German operator replaced him...

Pretty sure the plastic 'lens' is HDPE.

I use an offset dish which is mounted vertically. The feed is off-center, but the POTY is right.

I don't think anyway should I first Drew an element anyway actually connected to the ground thing and the size of your back pay is wrong according to everything else I've seen it has to be very specific size and the naches cut off the ends are important. I bought the material to actually cut one out myself I'm getting ready to put one together so I'll let you know. My club has a meeting on Laura today I'm going to and I know quite a bit of it because I read the specifications and then I washed all your videos but I had read the specifications first. I'd ever be really good start for people with me to get out there like reading glasses and read the current nLoraWAN specs. I bought three radio sounds older on eBay my club sends him up with Laura so I was thinking about hijacking to transmit and receive onto at LORAWAN alone ona bread board. All you guys are electronic engineers and I think I'm the only one in my car is not and there's no good preparation materials for normal people. And plus I'm taking it in French which is right I mean I should take it in the language of my country or one of them took my interview and I made her change from English to French United States in at that time she looked at me like I was crazy. She said I was the first American ever just stop her and ask her to continue the interview in a national language of Switzerland. "Acunne Problem pour vous!""it's not your responsibility to conform to me is my responsibility to conform to this culture there cuz I was granted the privilege of being a citizen. But, I sure made a lot of money for Swissf people ( of which I'm one and are two of my children) as the English-speaking Lawyer (I'm many other things than a lawyer so please don't get hung up on that).. but if you have any french bass preparation materials for the HB3 please send them my way because one of our members is a recent retiree from the organization agency and so he can't teach me for ethical reasons but I think that should not be so the point is to follow the law to have a good time and to do it safely and learning the material is most important. I know this man would never like cheat you would never let me cheat so he would make sure that I understood the actual concepts he wouldn't like give me the answers. He just seems far too ethical for and now my computer love and sensors and micropython are hitting up against RF. So absolutely have to take the test then the next French one that's available to sign up for... Do you know when that is by the way?

Too bad this is a circularly polarised antenna, I also want a directional 2.4GHz antenna to connect to a HAMNET AP but not a circularly polarised one. Maybe I'll yield to TP-Link or Ubiquity

    • @HB9BLA

Often the HAMnet devices come with an antenna (at least on 5GHz where we are).

As you do on Netflix. lol We were milling wave guides on Tuesday. As the old ones started burning out at 1 KW , The back plane was 3 mm copper. We have a mill mate.
