I know. I'm sorry I couldn't decide on which exits I wanted to request. But Exit 33 at Stony Creek, Virginia would've been a decent choice, due to the Davis Truck Stop.
Kenly, North Carolina would've been good too. Not only for the Kenly 95 truck stop, but also because it was once the southern terminus of the former Kenly-Rocky Mount Business Loop I-95.
36:46-37:11 That is the backup Exit I would take when I lived up in Spotsylvania, Virginia but sadly I don’t live there anymore. I moved back to North Carolina in 2018 and have been living there ever since.

UPDATE: this view here 25:14 is pretty close to where the collapse is now looking at the NB side. Everything from that point to just around the Betsy Ross Bridge is now signed for "Closed" and "Detour"

I have a feeling people will want Todd to cover the highways in Costa Rica when he starts covering international highways for a very special reason.
I wonder if Todd will do the control cities for the freeways of the Denver area and say Limon because many eastern routes from the Front Range take you to Limon.
At 22:34 in the video, I recently traveled the NJ Turnpike recently and they re-labeled the I-95 south thru signs for Philadelphia now instead of Camden at both Exit 7A and Exit 7.
Recently the NJ Turnpike Authority changed a couple of mainline SB signs from "Camden" to "Philadelphia" at Exit 7A and Exit 7. Also the SB Garden State Parkway approaching I-95/NJ Turnpike has "Philadelphia" as a control city. Further south on the Turnpike, there is at least 1 mileage sign listing Wilmington, Baltimore, and Washington DC.

The Emporia signage in Virginia means "time to stop speeding." 😄
US 64 in NC is also signed as Future I-87 east of Wake County.
When they finish that construction on I-95 in Fayetteville, they'll install the overhead signage. I can almost guarantee that the new signs will be quite large.
Brunswick is a very important port city in GA, which may explain its prominent signage.

24:00 Before the official closure of the I-95 gap, one could cross this bridge into Pennsylvania without toll, making it the only highway that I knew of where you could leave NJ without paying. Unfortunately that no longer is the case.

42:11 US-58 barely qualifies as a US highway since 99.8% of its length lies entirely in Virginia, except for the extreme western end which barely reaches Tennessee near Cumberland gap. However it is a scenic drive that covers pretty much every kind of terrain Virginia has to offer.
Definitely your best work thus far. Enjoyable "ride" along I-95.
While I'm here, my "home exit" request for I-99 is #52 (PA 350, Bald Eagle & Philipsburg). It's notable as the former northern terminus of I-99 and ending of US 220 expressway. (US 220 traffic needed to exit and continue through Port Matilda.)

42:00 US-58 at Emporia serves a ton of East-West traffic for various cities, including one of only a few major highways into the Hampton Roads area, plus cities along Roanoke River. Granted, it's much more useful when going North on I-95... but there isnt much else before Rocky Mount. lol

You did a great job on I 95. I would like Key West to be signed at the end of 95, but I understand that what you say is true most people might be going to Coral Gables
The story regarding the toll on Maine I-95 is that the original construction bonds for the Maine Turnpike/I-95 were paid off in the 1980s. At the time, the state put it to a referendum as to whether tolls should be kept for the Maine Turnpike/I-95 in order to maintain the highway. Keeping tolls was approved by the voters. The rationale was that out-of-state tourists make up a significant portion of the traffic on that highway, particularly in the summer, so let them pay tolls for the maintenance rather than have it come out of the tax base. The "good" news is that the tolls are currently below the levels that the tolls were at when the constructions bonds were still being paid down prior to the early-1980s. Mainers learn to avoid or minimize their travel over the Maine Turnpike. Not saying that the state is correct in keeping tolls. But consider that Mainers tend to be fiscally conservative. And they want tourists to pay for things they use.
At the 8:30 mark at the point I95 meets with I93, what a nightmare pretty much any day of the week with traffic. Especially summer this is where Boston traffic meets with Cape Cod traffic.
Actually any section of i95 encircling Boston is a parking lot. (That's where "route 128 is a parking lot")
I think the I-95/I-93 interchange shown at 7:33 is worse. That’s a cloverleaf interchange with weaving traffic. The one in Canton at least has multiple lanes for traffic “exiting” onto I-93 or staying on I-95 south.
The tolls in RI were for trucks only, but a legal challenge forced them to stop collecting them, therefore the tarps. I-295 is a nice bypass of downtown Providence for long distance traffic. Oh, and you want to see the worst control usage by MassDOT for I-95? Look at the southbound control from MA 2 to I-95 South; it’s Attleboro only. No mention of even Waltham or Dedham, let alone Providence.
As of 11 June 2023, I-95 is once more no longer contiguous from ME down to FL. 😢

The Garden State Parkway can also be accessed from the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) at Exit 14A, Exit 14B is Airmont Road toward Airmont and Suffern, and Exit 14 is New York 59 toward Nanuet

When I-83 meets the PA Turnpike, it has an A/B setup like I-95 does with I-90. Interestingly enough, the exit for the PA Turnpike off I-83 is also Exit 39B with an entirely different road using Exit 39A.

Now that this super cut is out, I can finally share that I’ve traveled on at least some part of I-95 going south in every state except Pennsylvania.
I’ve also traveled the entirety of I-95 south in the following states: NH, MA, RI, CT, NY, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA.
Twice I’ve traveled from MA to FL by car, mostly following I-95, but coming back took different routes in the south before re-joining I-95 in either VA or DC.

Maine is sometimes bad at signing southbound I-95 while Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are mostly bad at signing cities of southbound I-95.
In Richmond, Powhite Parkway is a $0.70 toll and later a $0.75 toll. Downtown Expressway is one $0.75 toll.
I’ve got a side project going on where I’m grading the lower 48 states + DC on how controls on their freeways are listed. This won’t be limited to just Interstates; U.S. Routes and State Highways are also going to be included in my examinations (but their controls may be less stringent than standard Interstate controls, for obvious reasons). I’ve settled on the following for a scoring system:
1 point for signage that I wouldn’t consider changing period (Billings on 94W from Bismarck)
0.75 points if the control is good, but a significantly larger (>2x) metro is less than 100 miles down the road (New London vs New London/Providence on 95N from New Haven)
0.5 points if the control is good, but there’s another metro (less than half the size, but greater than 50k) less than 100 miles before (Davenport vs Iowa City/Davenport on 80E from Des Moines)
0.25 points if the control is signed too soon (Portland vs Medford on 5N from Redding)
0 points if I don’t consider the control worthy (Vicksburg/Meridian)
-0.25 points if no control is listed.
Not only will I be looking at every freeway interchange, but every freeway entrance. When all states are done, I’ll calculate the cumulative average, and curve it up to 75 (the middle of the C range). Where everything is after the curve will determine the grade: S if above 100%, A above 90%, B 80%, C 70% and D 60%. Below 60 is an F, but with every drop of 10%, a - will be added (F is 50-60, and F- is 40-50.)
I’ve already done 3 states plus DC, and thus far, they’re graded:
North Dakota: high A (there’s a disturbing number of ramps in the most rural areas that don’t list any controls, but it is far and away the best of the four; where signage is present, it’s near perfect)
Wyoming: mid D (in and near Cheyenne has the highest concentration of overall good signage)
Vermont: high F (outside of Greater Burlington and south of Brattleboro, pretty poor)
District of Columbia: mid F- (Even ignoring the frontage-freeway ramps on the Kenilworth Ave. and the Anacostia Freeways, controls are almost non-existent outside of the 395/695 junction.)

I saw the southbound 95 control city from I-195 is now Philadelphia, no longer Camden, though it’s signed Camden on I195 itself
I never thought the Eastchester Bus Depot was supposed to be a scrap yard for buses. I do know that the depot was within the vicinity of where the Sheridan Expressway was supposed to terminate.
I wish I-278 did lead to I-78, like it was supposed to.
I wonder since Petersburg Virginia is the halfway point on 95 that's why 85 connect there instead of connecting in Richmond

@@ControlCityFreak Oh I’m actually going to take one to Atlantic City when my Mom turns 40 on September 11th of this year. And no. I’m not relating to the attacks that happened on that day in 2001.
Miami is absolutely the right choice from Daytona Beach but I wouldn't sign Miami the entire way because once in the Fort Pierce area, it's actually faster for Miami-bound traffic to switch off onto the FL Turnpike; so at that point, I'd switch I-95's control city to Port St. Lucie/West Palm Beach.

On the milage signs from the Georgia border south the bottom line cities are Jacksonville after Jacksonville, Daytona Beach After Daytona Beach it's Miami until your 80 miles north of West Palm Beach, The signs say West Palm Beach then finally Miami again. Fun trip. 😮
At exit 160 @VA-123 in VA I-95 is signed south for Fredericksburg instead of Richmond.
Has your I-96 video been finished yet? I remember sending you a Super Sticker request for it with the most important interchanges to cover besides the interstates (US-31 and US-131/I-296, US-127, the M-6 beltway in Grand Rapida, US-23, M-14, US-24, M-39, Davison Ave/M-8, and the ending at I-75). There’s also an exit for the Ambassador Bridge off I-96 as well before ending at I-75.

If I-78 and I-278 had been fully built, 278 actually would have met 78 three (3) times. From the current Elizabeth/Rahway western end, 278 would have continued further west and north and met 78 near or past Springfield. 78 would have been built across Manhattan from the Holland Tunnel to the Manhattan or Williamsburg Bridge, where it would have intersected with 278 (as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway). 78 would then have cut through Brooklyn and Queens to Kennedy Airport, and then east and north along what is now the 295 Clearview Expressway to the Throgs Neck Bridge, and across that to the Bruckner interchange where 278 has its eastern terminus. Also, what is the problem with Trenton? We know that 95 does not actually go there, but neither does it literally go to Boston, Washington D.C., etc. We have seen signs for them and other major cities where 95 goes close but then another major road takes the traffic right to the heart; the same goes for Trenton (I-195 west for a short run). Trenton is the state capital and the middle of the state; north of that is part of the NYC metro area, and south is that for Philadelphia. Philadelphia would be a good control city for the NJ Turnpike south of Trenton, but 95 goes east into Pennsylvania across the Delaware river right after that as the main route from the north, so it is logical for the Turnpike to keep the major remaining south Jersey city near its route (Camden) and then Wilmington as its next stated destinations.
What’s funny as well? I’m watching this with the Delaware turnpike thing due to an accident. They have 95 N shut down just passed the toll. So in order to avoid being stuck there for God knows how long you have to avoid the toll anyway.
I 481 and I 690 in Syracuse NY both turn into NY 481 and NY 690 after the I 81 and I 90 intrtchanges..

Probably, but I doubt I'll ever remake those. They just don't get nearly as many views as road vids and I don't think much about the order would change. I think Midwest is the only one I'd ever consider changing.

There are four states with one two-digit/parent Interstate.
Nebraska only has I-80. While I-29 serves Greater Omaha, it runs entirely on the Iowa side of the river.

Hey Todd, once you get to I-97, you'll be literally shaking your head when i mention this:
It's only 18 miles long and the shortest interstate in the system that does not have another segment.
Also, for 51:09, St. Augustine is way too small of a control city. It's only 14,000 people in population. Palm Coast would work better because it has an extremely high population of 89,000 people, plus it's the biggest city in Flagler County.
I’m ok with St Augustine. Way more famous, literally everyone who’s passed 4th grade has heard of it. Plus way more tourists.

They could, but they shouldn’t. Key West traffic would mainly be on the turnpike at that point
