The universe and I thank you! I've been trying to remove these crusty vents for two years (not continuously, but multiple tries ending in quitting out of frustrastion). I tried various tools...but never a hammer. Boom! Done. I also appreciate that I didn't have to watch 10 minutes of you driving to the house, coming into the room, unpacking your tools and giving us your life story. You're my hero.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU The UA-cam Award of the Year I have been fighting this vent for two years. Someone stepped on it and I kept ignoring it, would try to pull it out, give up. Would come back later and try again Now I am painting the bathroom and it was do or die. Popped right out
Thank you, thank you, thank you a thousand times. I've been trying to get these off for years and never figured it out. Then I had a brainstorm...YT! It was right here all along. Now I can clean those sucker's and stop being embarrassed by them. I tried ripping them off, too but no go. 😅😂😅
Holy crap. I’ve been struggling to figure this out today because they need cleaning. This is the identical vent I have. Your tip worked like a charm. Thank you!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!! I spent 20 minutes trying to figure this out. I was opting for a crow bar, Saws-all and maybe a stick of dynamite but this is way easier....
My elderly parents asked me to remove and clean their baseboard vents. I pushed, pulled, examined, and repeated with no success. Your video was the first to come up and it’s the SAME type of vent. Huge thanks for sharing out to do this.
My wife and I were installing these (Altus brand) to replace some showing age. We felt like monkeys, handing it back and forth, looking it over, pulling on it, pushing. I'd have eventually taken a hammer to it. To destroy it. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks! Just installed one and one edge didn't go on right, so I need to remove it and adjust. What a terrible design to make the connection in an inaccessible area.
We spent an hour farting around trying to get the cover off without bending the metal. You'd think this thing would come with some instructions. Can't wait to try the hammer tomorrow. Ameri-flow 18" base diffuser from Menards.
Did not work for me but I'll try in again, I'm afraid I'll dent or scratch the unit. , how could anyone design such a POS and have no way of removing the cover without damaging it.
Thank YOU so much~!!!! You are the only one who comes to the point and really shows you how. I just got one and for the life of me I could not figure it out. Thank YOU so much~!!!!😍👍👍👍👍👏
Hell yeah man! I consider myself very handy and know exactly how the vent covers go on but for the life of me could not get it off after I had installed them. Couple taps with a rubber mallet on each side did the trick! You deserve some kind of award for this.
So ours actually have a large tab in the middle. Rapping the sides with a hammer and a bit of pulling revealed that- so if you’re here trying to pull your diffuser off, perhaps check the middle of the grill for some big tab?
No. It just takes a tap to dislodge it. If it doesn't immediately come off with a light whack, verify you have the same model/design. If yours looks different, it may be held together differently.
An alternative way which is quiet approved (kids sleeping) I found was to use a couple right angle picks and pull on the outside edge of the tab holes from the front (through the grill) while pulling up on the front grate. This did the trick for me and didn't require a hammer.
It would depend on the design you have, but this and any design I'm familiar with would render it inoperable. You would no longer be able to open and close it. If I still wanted to remove it, I would take it apart as shown and cut the lever off. Honestly, it's unlikely the infant will hit their forehead again. There are plenty of other things for them to hit their head on. Just last night, my child split my lip open by slamming their head into me while I slept. Babies are going to baby.
Thank you! My child just spectacularly sprayed vomit all over our register and I was about to cry trying to figure out how to remove it to clean it. You are a UA-cam angel!
Great info! Registers are one of the many overlooked DIY projects that can completely transform the look of your home. There are so many decorative and affordable vents to choose from! :)
Yes! Thank you for taking the time to do this! Your video helped so much!
I thank you too, I was scratching my head and was so glad you shared on here. thank you!
Thank You! been trying for a year to get it off to clean.
I have been wanting to open mine up to clean them, thank you!
Thank you!!!!! You just made my day! I’ve been going CRAZY trying to figure it out! The universe should give you a great day today!!! 🙌
Thank you for this! I need to replace mine and dont know how to do it!
Thanks for the video I couldn't figure it out.

Great!! Question is now how do they go back on? Just cram them on?
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! After much searching and frustration on how to do this, I came upon your video. I have to say it again, thank you! 🙂
Holy crap. I’ve been struggling to figure this out today because they need cleaning. This is the identical vent I have. Your tip worked like a charm. Thank you!!!
You are a God. Been 16 years in this house and have watched the dirt pile up without being able to remove the vent!
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you!! I wrestled with mine yesterday forever & couldn’t figure it out…
Awesome! Next can you do a video showing how to repair a hole in the wall from frustration of removing this cover please!
THANK YOU!!!!!! I spent 20 minutes trying to figure this out. I was opting for a crow bar, Saws-all and maybe a stick of dynamite but this is way easier....
Thank you for giving back to the universe! This was my exact same vent cover, and I NEVER would have figured out to tap the sides.
Thank you Mr. Wizard, your friend Tuter turtle

Thank YOU so much~!!!! You are the only one who comes to the point and really shows you how. I just got one and for the life of me I could not figure it out. Thank YOU so much~!!!!😍👍👍👍👍👏

Thank you! I was working on this today…well a few hours ago and I couldn’t figure out how to do it! The universe thanks you!!

Thanx!

Your awesome
Exactly what I had. I think I purchased at my local Menards store. Put in 2 years ago and could not figure out/remember how to remove. Thanks.
thanks
God bless you for this one ❤I’ve been looking for this and you came through
Thank you! You're right, there's no other videos explaining how to do this
Ty after 45 minutes I'm on YT looking for an answer. :)
This is literally the greatest video on UA-cam. Someone should do a tribute video to this video.
Thank you so much ❤❤
will this break it? I want to take it off to clean it, not replace it.
No. It just takes a tap to dislodge it. If it doesn't immediately come off with a light whack, verify you have the same model/design. If yours looks different, it may be held together differently.
Thank you for your service to the internet! Sorely needed this!
Thank you much!!! We just bought a house and my husband couldn't figure out how to take them off for me to clean!
Amazing! The most obvious need, thank you!!
Dude thank you for this video 😂 UA-cam
Thank you... this saved me so much hassle😂
Wow thank you so much for taking the time to figure it out and making a video. I have been aggravated for years by these darn things. You are awesome!

Hi do you know if I can remove the lever on the top because the infant I watch got hit by bumping his forehead on the lever.
It would depend on the design you have, but this and any design I'm familiar with would render it inoperable. You would no longer be able to open and close it. @@CorneliusBueller I see . I just put cushion around it for now and taped it . as you said he still found some thing else to hit himself with lol.
Ty. How do put the new in?
I had some where the screw holes didn't match the original, so I had to drill a few new holes into the subfloor or wall.
Thumbs up for giving back to the universe.
Thanks for making this!
Thank you! I also discovered no other videos!
Thank you! I have this exact one I've been trying for 10 minutes and so glad I found this video!
Thank you! My child just spectacularly sprayed vomit all over our register and I was about to cry trying to figure out how to remove it to clean it. You are a UA-cam angel!
Wow..saved me a shit load of time and effort. Thank you you tube Hero...
Thank you, Cory! Just what I needed.
OMG, thank you,I spent hours trying to figure out how to get it open.
I also thank you. It worked perfectly. I have not put it back on yet.
It's two tabs on back push in and pull up
Tried that. It didn't work on this one. It did work on another in the house. Maybe this one was just extra stuck.
Do you mean on the sides?
Thank you! I was going nuts trying to figure it out. No instructions on the replacement vent either.
OMG ..thank you so much for posting this!!! I was struggling and did a youtube search. Worked like a charm! Not even 5 minutes to do.
Thank you so much been trying to figure this out for a while
Great info! Registers are one of the many overlooked DIY projects that can completely transform the look of your home. There are so many decorative and affordable vents to choose from! :)
Thank you!!!! I could not figure that out!!
