  • Genesis 49:29-50:14:
In these verses, Jacob gives his final instructions to his sons, asking them to bury him in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre in Canaan, where Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, and Leah are buried. After Jacob’s death, Joseph reassures his brothers of his forgiveness and promises to care for them and their families. Following Jacob's wishes, Joseph and his brothers carry Jacob's body to Canaan and bury him in the cave of Machpelah in a significant funeral procession that includes both Egyptian officials and the family's household. They observe a period of mourning, and then Joseph and his brothers return to Egypt.
    Psalm 66:1-7:
This portion of Psalm 66 is a call to all the earth to praise God. The psalmist encourages joyful noise and the singing of the glory of God's name. It invites people to see how awesome God's deeds are toward mankind, including His power over nature and nations, symbolized by His control over the river crossing (likely referring to the Red Sea or Jordan River) and His dominion over enemies. It ends with a recognition of God's eternal watchfulness over the nations, preventing them from rebelling.
    Proverbs 19:28:
This proverb criticizes the corrupt and dishonest, stating that a corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. It highlights the destructive nature of corruption and dishonesty, particularly in legal matters, where such behavior can subvert justice and promote injustice.
    John 12:37-50:
Despite Jesus performing many signs, many people, including some leaders, do not believe in Him, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy that they would not understand and turn so they could be healed. Jesus cries out that those who see Him see the one who sent Him. He explains that He came as a light into the world, so those who believe in Him will not remain in darkness. He emphasizes that rejecting Him and His words will result in judgment on the last day, as He speaks what the Father has commanded Him, promising eternal life to those who keep His word.
