This helped Beyoncé too because Beyoncé came in at age 16 with Destiny's Child. If you think coming in the game at a young age is easy, then just remember what happened to the great Usher when he debuted at 15. Usher's first album flopped because it was hard for people to take his lyrics and persona seriously. Luckily, Usher was able to rebound and form a legendary career. Another thing Aaliyah did was help diminish the stigma of female musicians doing movies. Female musicians historically got panned when they tried their hand at acting. But Aaliyah garnered positive reviews for her acting performances. Aaliyah proved that female musicians can be very committed as actresses. I think Aaliyah would have been successful if she were still alive today. I mean back in the day, out of her peers Brandy was the most popular. Aaliyah had some hits here and there then she would disappear and come back every few years or so. However, I believe that last album was seriously about to put her over[crossover] in mainstream to be the superstar she could have been. With that said, I think she would've done the LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Will Smith thing and went straight to acting and put music out occasionally. I could see her being more known today for acting than her music. Aaliyah's death has nothing to do with Beyonce being where she is today. Beyonce is a hard worker I think she would be where she is today if Aaliyah were alive. I think they are/were both talented beautiful young ladies. I don't know how successful Aaliyah would have been if she had lived, but I am inclined to believe that she would have been very successful, because she seems like she was a leader in her own right and would have continued to stay relevant. They, especially her second album, made her a music veteran fast. They established her. Beyonce technically had hella albums with DC before her solo album. If she came out solo, she'd have to grind alone. Aaliyah's last album was her first real adult album. And unfortunately, the best songs came from it after her death. If she lived to promote that album, she'd be in the same boat as Beyonce by her fourth album, which would be her second adult album too. Fym? And with that second album, even Timbaland said the timing was wrong. She was doing too much.

I think Aaliyah would have been successful if she were still alive today. I mean back in the day, out of her peers Brandy was the most popular. Aaliyah had some hits here and there then she would disappear and come back every few years or so. However, I believe that last album was seriously about to put her over[crossover] in mainstream to be the superstar she could have been. With that said, I think she would've done the LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Will Smith thing and went straight to acting and put music out occasionally. I could see her being more known today for acting than her music.
Aaliyah's death has nothing to do with Beyonce being where she is today. Beyonce is a hard worker I think she would be where she is today if Aaliyah were alive. Not because she is better, but she made a choice to work on her craft and you can see how much her vocal and performance game has improved since Destiny's Child.

Keep in mind, when Destiny's Child's first album came out in 1999 and their second in May 2001, their success was gaining, just like Aaliyah's. There is and can be more than 1 popular black female singer in the music industry.

I think they are/were both talented beautiful young ladies. I don't know how successful Aaliyah would have been if she had lived, but I am inclined to believe that she would have been very successful, because she seems like she was a leader in her own right and would have continued to stay relevant. Between the two, I still prefer Aaliyah. I think it comes down to performance, dress, and originality for me. Aaliyah had all three. Beyonce changed in the past few years and in my opinion I just don't like what I see from her anymore.
