  • Documentation of my progress through making a fungi tubular reactor. The principal is to utilize fungi in a tube to either break down a suspended substrate or produce an enzyme/compound continuously in a process more affordable than discrete batches.

    very interesting, love your channel!
maybe using high ph and low nutrition woodchips (shoud work for pleurotus) hinders contaminations.
have you already done more experiments with it?

Cool project. It would be interesting to run the broth though a sterile soil column as a control experiment. That would help in attributing the color change to the fungus rather than filtration by the soil (essentially a crude form of column chromatography).

Definitely a good idea; maybe in place of this I could just use a bunch of dye and see if the column changes color? Having a control would be much better though.

Very interesting. in clear tubes some bioluminescent fungi would look cool.
also I always wanted to make my own cellulase, to make grass or wood wine (or toiletpaperwine like nile red did) or for experiments with protoplasten.

So many good ideas here! I want to isolate some Panellus stipticus or Armillaria sp. to make a gently glowing night light... Either in liquid culture or on a solid substrate. It would be fun to try to make cellulase too!

@@DIYBiotech YES. I read on reddit comments you may think about streilising the "waste" media with UV-C. I think that is a bad Idea because it will damage the enzymes. A better way is using syringe filters. I'm not sure if the peristaltic pump has enough pressure but it would be worth a try, by Hand this may take a while. That would defnitly lower the contamintaion inside the tube if you reuse the media and preserve the enzymes to break down the material inside the tube. I'm not sure how much you can increase the concentration of enzym inside the media by reusing it. I imagine the fungus is probably gonna stop producing it at a certain concentration, but don't quote me on that.
If you still want the UV-C sterilisation look into aquarium supplise or water "purifier" their quite frequent.

Try liquid culture in a continuous bioreactor.

Thanks for the video, I wonder how would you adapt this to obtain conidia?

Food waste hydrogen Generator would be complex build but best way to make individual carbon footprint significantly lower
