I think the really cool thing is, that your saw is so light and compact, that one can carry it not only when use is pre-determined, but also for those 'just in case' occasions, or just have it in a car with taking basically zero space in the trunk. So definitely a thumbs-up from me.
Yes, you can't use what you don't have with you. What you are willing to carry whether it's edc or outdoor adventure is a huge factor that some just don't seem to get...
I agree with some of the other commenters. Id like to see it compared to a silky. I bought a F180 due to it being their lightest saw. But it's still 5.7oz which is quite a bit heavier than your saw.
I think I can speak for most of your subscribers and say that we are big fans of YOU and not just the content and products. Keep up the great work and great content. God bless.
True, over here in the west we do have pine, and on the eastside of the Sierra's and in Nevada we have pinion, puts out btu's close to oak which we also have. We also have stands of madrone here and there, ....and then there's mountain mohogany. I'd like to see you have your hand saw race with a piece of that, pretty dense, it sinks in water.
Would like to see this vs a silky or bow/buck saw. The bow and buck saws dont need to take a handle as can easily fabricate one in the woods. So don't know how it would compare with that
7.02 "is this blade going to last". Good question. I *hate* throwing away handles and blades (I guess steel can be recycled) when only the blade needs to be replaced. One (but only one) reason the KPG saw appeals 👌
Can we see some comparisons to silky and fiskars saws, go to bushcraft stuff, since they're probably the actual saws people would be comparing these to? They're also more similarly matched in price. Along with a sheath and how much it adds to overall weight.
I don't backpack, but I can tell you those Diablo Carbide Pruner blades are AWESOME? I demo drywall with it and it cuts through nails long ways so fast you can not even tell that you hit nail. I use it In a SAWZALL and drywall heats up and ruins most blades fast but the large tooth gets it on!
I just ordered the folding milwaukee jabsaw handle.. pair it with the 6" diablo carbide pruning and its a small setup. Nice thing for me is I have 6" bimetal metal cutting blades so this will also replace my awkward handheld mini hacksaw..
great light weight saw. i liked your idea so much that i put one together for myself, it's nowhere near as durable as your's is as i used pvc pipe for the handle but it works ok. thanks for such a great idea!
I’ve done trail work over the summers with a local crew for quite a while and a couple summers ago I started carrying the 18” Fiskars saw and I can attest that it does stay sharp. It’s obviously not an ultra light saw, but I think they’re good saws
Went on vacation last week and used a Bahco Laplander 8 inch to cut a few pieces of seasoned hard wood. Yeah, that saw cuts but it prefers live wood. My forearms are still a little numb.
Great stuff Alex! Sounds like you watch Wranglerstar aswell? A few similar references at least. Looking forward to seeing more and you getting back to the outdoors55 channel. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Hey Alex! Impressive results, awesome to see this project come to fruition and show such strong performance! I was curious though, was there ever any thought given to the idea of having the "tube" section of the saw be big enough so that the saw blade could be stored inside of it, so as not to risk compromising or damaging other items it is packed close to (or even the pack itself)? Just thinking outside the box, although Im sure youve given lots of thought to this project from ALL angles. Have a good one buddy!
Thanks! I did actually make a version like you described. It would have doubled the weight though and thats not really what i was going for with this. The other thing i ran into was the blade would damage the inside of the carbon fiber rattling around and taking it in and out. So you would have to use the blade guard with it in that manner. Im thinking about making a heavier version with the blade storage inside for those who want that option. I didn't think anyone would want this version but i was apparently wrong 🙂
Impressive saw I must say. Have you put it up against a silky? And great to see you back on UA-cam🤘patiently looking forward to some new content on outdoors Take care brother 🍻
Its an old zpacks arc blast. They dont make this version anymore but do make a newer one. I have no affiliation with them and would recommend their products from the experience i have with them. I also like liteaf packs. They make great stuff too👍🙂
The paint doesn't really come into contact with the wood due to the kerf width. One of the reasons this blade does bind up too often. The blade is actually missing a tooth here or there but still cuts like new🙂
Ordered your saw on the last day of vacation. Can't wait to hit the trail and saw some field camp bits later. Hey, maybe an over aggresive central government turns us into Venezuela. I'll quielty chew wood for fuel using a light weight saw.
Just a bit of kind advice. Add a little weight using an aluminum housing rather than carbon fiber and maintain one stainless fitting. Its not enough weight savings to warrant carbon fiber and the price. Even if its 5 ounces, so what, its plenty light and youll target a larger demographic. As with all things theres a point of diminising returns on weight, materials, and cost and cost to manufacture. Also dont compare it to larger saws because it simply isnt a largebsaw nor does it possess the efficiency of a larger Silky or Felco professional pruning saw. Sell it and market it for what it is. If you do these simple things you could have a more successful product, and you can always do carbon fiber on special orders. But the key is pricepoint, with quality, and target demographic. Good luck.
We have a 4 week lead time on these. Its the world's lightest thats the point. We might come out with a cheaper heavier version but for now we already can't keep up. I appreciate the advice but your missing the point. 👍
Are you freaking serious $70 for a small Chunk of carbon fibre . A little chunk of stainless and a little trunk of aluminium. Kind of an OK idea but seriously . You need to figure out how to get your price in half or you will never sell any.
Its carbon fiber and custom machined pieces all made in usa. Just the blade is $12. This isnt made in China stuff your used to seeing. I never intended to sell them but now we have a 3 week lead time as we are being overwhelmed by orders, because some people understand what it is, and the purpose it was designed for.
Well I was a welder for 10 years and do a lot of customised stuff myself and I live here in the United States as well. Not saying it's a bad product just overpriced. Maybe find a new machine shop . And I have also been in the construction trade for another 10 plus years and I understand the blades are expensive as well . But glad to see you are way back ordered there is a few people out there that don't really care about money. Best of luck to you
Its just they understand what the saw is actually for. A Walmart watch tells the time same as a rolex. Different saws to accomplish different things, same as the watches 👍
So the 15" fiskers that outweighs it by 10oz and has a 3" longer blades isnt a competitor? Check out some of our other videos compairing it to other folding saws. We are also planning a test against the silkys in the future.
Ps the boreal 21 isnt even close to speed as this or the weight. Plus we can cut bigger trees. Check out the video we did on the theoretical size tree you can cut. The link is in the pinned comment 🙂
@@knifepointgear5851 The boreal with the drywood blade is as fast as my silky but easier on the wrist. Weightwise no question this here is a lot lighter
@@knifepointgear5851 Nah i just mean a comparison to other popular saw options would be interesting. like the corona, silky, agawa or one of the good pocketchainsaws
Yeah there's pluses and minuses with every saw. We are after the lightest solution possible. Theoretically you could use one for large quantity processing but it wouldn't the BEST application. Although it does come surprisingly close to much larger saws. 🙂

The Silky has the ergonomics and yours is 33% lighter, would be nice to know which is faster.

I have the silky gomboy 300.
I have a gomboy as well. They weigh 3 times as much.

@@knifepointgear5851 I mean if you can make a version with 5" carbon handle instead of the 10"
